Raven Nightshade is an assassin that works through the Shadow Manor. She's mute and keeps to herself. The only person who truly knows her is her friend Ruby Vascal. She is sarcastic, stubborn, headstrong, smart, patient, and deadly.

Everything was going as planned until one night. When she and the head of the Shadow Manor discover an underground operation ordered by the king to find all humans and have them killed.

What will happen when Raven is forced to go into hiding for being human? What will happen when Kaz brings in two complete strangers to help Raven on her journy?

Chapter 1
Raven; "Come on, it wasn't that bad!" Someone whines down the hall. A male voice responds with a slight chuckle, "After that movie I'm going to have to rip my ears off. It was that bad." She sighs and chuckles as they walk down the hall. I laugh in my head wondering what movie they say. I walk silently down the servants hall. There's a secret panel on the wall that is right next to a trigger that will send an emergency message to the city guard. My job is to collect information and give that to Kaz. An exhausted sigh leaves my lips as I come to the wall with the panels. I raise my hand and slightly push the panel. The wall moves, just enough for me to squeeze through. I look around to make sure I'm by myself. As I'm looking around I notice the room is rather comfortable. The coaches are a light brown made of leather with cherry wood legs. You can tell the room is styled for relaxation, but still holds an air for work and professionalism. I quickly walk towards the desk and look through the dewars. As I rummage through the second drawer I hear something pop. I quickly looked over my shoulder at the wall I came through, but it wasn't open. I look back at the desk and see a small 8 by 3 inch cupboard open on the inside of the desk where the chair usually is. I rush over there and see one letter in there. I pull it out and shove it into my coat pocket. The door handle starts turning and I rush to the window. I quickly jumped, not turning to see if the person saw me. I slid down the drain pipe and started running as soon as I hit the ground. I hear yelling, running, and horses chasing me behind me. s**t! I quickly go around the corner and get on Athia. She starts galloping away when I hear the guards getting closer. I turn her around the corner and lead her to the forest where we could lose them. The forest has always been my home and I have lived there all my life. The guards don't know it like I do. I look over my shoulder and see that I have 5 guards I have to lose. I take a sharp turn right off the trail leading them deeper into the forest. I have Athia run towards the mountains. As I was running I pushed a tree branch out of my way. I hear a loud whack. I look behind me and see one guard falls off his horse onto the ground. He's not fast enough to move out of the way of the other guards and gets trampled on in the process. 1 down 4 to go. I lean forward to prepare for the next turn when an arrow just misses me and grazes my cheek. I look behind me and see a small boy no older than 17 holding the bow and getting ready to fire another arrow. It shocks me for a second because most of the guards have guns holstered to their hips. I turn Althia for another sharp right and we start to climb the mountain. This can be very dangerous if you go very fast on this part of the trail, even more if you're off trail. Just as I had hoped, the boy's horse refuses to follow me up this part of the mountain. There is a part on this trail that I had made into a trap last year and I'm hoping it's still there. We round the bend and sure enough there is there. I unholster one of my throwing knives and throw. Right as the guards round the bend the rocks fall in front of them. A sigh slips through my lips as I bring Althia down the mountain and to the Shadow Manor. We enter the stables. Once I get her settled and make sure she has hay and water, I walk into the manor. The Shadow Manor is designed beautifully. There is Black marble walls with gold accents all along the walls. The crystal chandelier is charged by magic, so the flames never die. I steal a turkey sandwich on my way to Kaz's office. I always loved how this place was styled. The Manor is actually too big to be legal in the city, so Kaz had it moved out here. I knock lightly on the door to Kaz's. A low voice grumbles, "Enter." I ease the door open and sit on the couch, "Your late Wraith." I only nod my head, sighing frustrated. I lightly toss the letter onto the desk, "You know..." Kaz says, "Don't think I don't notice that graze mark Wraith." I simply roll my eyes knowing he's going to make sure I go to the healer tomorrow. Kaz opens the letter and glances through it. Without looking up he says, "I'll need a few days to translate it, Your payment will be ready by breakfast. I'll also have another mission for you by then." I nod and get up to leave, "Don't be late next time." I nod my head and slip out of the room. My room is rather small and on the top floor next to Kaz. He came up with some reasoning along the lines of "You're my wraith and I need to make sure you are effective at your job." Whatever that means. I roll my eyes at the memory. I rip all my clothes off and dive into my bed. I sigh happily if I could marry my bed I would do it in a heartbeat. Kaz; When Raven left my office I watched through the camera feeds to make sure she went to her room. There are some nights where she would sneak out of her room and go somewhere. Of course I only learn about it when she comes back covered in dirt and twigs. And no matter what I say she will not talk with me, or anyone for that matter. The only person she seems to talk too is Ruby. If you listen closely enough you can hear the small chuckle when those girls hangout. I look at the letter Raven had gotten for her last mission. It was written in the old language, so it will take some time to understand; but no longer than a few days. I have to go through all the files. Every 5 years I have to go through and renew their contracts if they want to keep working through the manor. Jacob Winston: Age: 27 (500 demon years) Job: Destroy Companies (Any company as long as he gets paid.) Death Count: 56 companies, 12 bosses, 14 underbosses, 30 soldiers. Income: 4,500 kuza (yearly) Species: Demon (Pyromantic) Gavin Dover: Age: 30 (50 wolf years) Job: Spider (Collect information from the Royal families) Death Count: 25 (Self defense) Income: 10,000 kuza (yearly) Species: Wolf shifter (Orange wolf) Sydney Black: Age: 32 (1,025 fairy years) Job: Assassin (Kills anyone if she's paid enough.) Death Count: 800 (She's very fast and effective.) Income: 19,000 kuza (yearly, she could make a lot more.) Species: Gold Fairy Raven Nightshade Age: 21 Job: Spider (Only for Kaz.) Poisoner (Will only kill morally wrong people.) Death Count: 350 (Poisoner) Income: 15,000 kuza (poison only) Species: Human Ruby Vascal: Age: 23 (467 demon years) Job: Seductress Death Count: 960 (mostly men) Income: 20,000 kuza (yearly) Species: Demon (succubus) It always confused me what Raven didn't leave this world. She makes enough money and could find a decent job. Humans are scattered all throughout Eavrathura Empire. Humans don't have as many rights as the Supernatural, but it's not as bad as it was 50 years ago. The empire had a fair ruler about 3 years ago, but after the empress' tragic death her son has been ruling. Human freedom is still split. Most of the population gets along with humans, but you always have those black sheep in the family that believe humans should go back to being slaves. The humans have been free technically for about 200 years, but it wasn't until Empress Elain that they got to do anything important. Rumor has it that her son Empore Kai is against humans having any freedom. This is stuff I have overheard in my missions, because of this I have Raven stay far away from the palace. She being human can cause many problems, especially in our world. Most of the underground is Supernatural. She is one out of 5 other humans that work in the underground. A yawn escapes out of me as I put the files away. I look at the clock and see it's around 2:30 am. I make my way to my room. As I walk by Raven's room I look in and see her passed out. Good I think she needed the sleep. I finished washing up. As soon as my head hits the pillow I'm out. That night I dream about a human girl with long black hair racing through the trees, laughing like there's no care in the world.
