The Devils Melody
“Every desire has a price. Are you willing to pay it?” The world called him an idol. Hell called him its Prince. SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — 11:58 P.M. The city glittered beneath the midnight sky, an ocean of neon throwing reflections across the dark surface of the Han River. Streetlights blurred into streaks of gold as luxury cars sped through the veins of the capital. On every digital billboard dominating the skyline, one single face appeared: MIN. He was South Korea’s greatest musician. Girls screamed his name until their throats bled. Men envied his effortless perfection. No one knew that every human dream whispered his name for a terrifying reason. Inside the Seoul Olympic Stadium, sixty thousand fans packed the arena, creating a sea of pulsing red light sticks. Suddenly, a single spotlight pierced the darkness, cutting directly to the stage. Wisps of white smoke rolled across the platform. Then, a sharp piano note echoed through the speakers. One. Two. Three. A tall figure emerged from the shadows. He wore a silk black shirt and a flawlessly tailored black suit. A crimson gemstone pendant rested against his chest, pulsing like a beating heart. His face alone was an ethereal masterpiece—sharp jawline, pale skin, and dark eyes that held a dangerous depth. When his lips curved into a slow smile, the stadium exploded. He lifted the microphone to his lips. “…Good evening, Seoul.” His deep baritone sent chills through the audience. As Min sang, invisible crimson threads began to weave through the crowd. Each thread attached itself directly to a different human heart. Some burned like liquid fire. Those belonged to the desperate, the greedy, and the broken—the people whose earthly desires had grown heavier than their actual souls. High above the crowd, Min’s eyes briefly flashed a brilliant crimson. He locked onto a burning thread connected to a VIP box. Found you. BACKSTAGE — 1:05 A.M. The concert ended, but the rhythmic chanting still vibrated through the dressing room walls. Min’s manager rushed in, sweating profusely. “Incredible! Min, you are trending number one in thirty-seven countries simultaneously! The after-party sponsors are waiting—” Min pulled the sleek monitor from his ear and tossed it onto the vanity. “Cancel the after-party.” The manager froze. “Again? The executives flew in just to see you.” “I have business,” Min replied, his voice cold, stripping away the warm idol persona completely. He grabbed his coat and walked out into the private exit corridor, disappearing into the Seoul night. THE PENTHOUSE — 1:17 A.M. In a luxury penthouse overlooking the Gangnam district, a prominent billionaire businessman stood alone. Suddenly, the lights flickered. The ambient warmth vanished, replaced by an unnatural, bone-chilling cold. A smooth voice echoed from the shadows near the balcony. “You’ve done well with the time I gave you.” The businessman froze, turning around slowly. Standing by the window was Min. The billionaire collapsed to his knees, his dignity evaporating into raw panic. “Please! I just need one more year. Just twelve months!” Min walked forward, looking down at the weeping man with empty eyes. “Your contract was for exactly ten years. Not a day more.” “I’ll give you more money! All my shares, my real estate, everything!” “You already signed away the only currency I care about,” Min whispered, his eyes flaring crimson. “You offered your soul for success. The ten years are up.” Dark, smoky flames erupted around the room. In mid-air, a blood-red parchment materialized. At the bottom, the businessman’s signature glowed in a burning gold. “There are no broken promises in Hell,” Min declared. Black shadows crawled across the floor like living serpents, wrapping around the man’s ankles and dragging him downward into a void of pure darkness. The portal snapped shut with a heavy thud. Only the signed contract remained, crumbling into fine black ash in Min's waiting hand. Another soul collected. Another debt paid. THE UNDERWORLD PALACE — 1:30 A.M. Min descended far beneath Seoul's foundations, stepping into the throne room of Hell. King Lucien, the dark ruler, sat upon his glowing throne. "The numbers are surging," Lucien remarked, a hint of pride in his voice. "Humans grow thirstier for shortcuts every single day. Did tonight's harvest bring you any satisfaction?" "I felt nothing," Min replied flatly, stopping at the base of the throne steps. "Perfect. Pity is a terminal disease, my son. Compassion is ruin." Lucien stood, placing a heavy hand on Min’s shoulder. "For five centuries, you have been my perfect executioner. Continue. Collect. And one day, this entire kingdom will belong to you." Min kept his silent gaze downward. He didn't care about the throne. He only knew the cycle of the hunt. ROOFTOP APARTMENT — 1:45 A.M. On the other side of Seoul, far away from the glitz of Gangnam, a young woman named Han Chae-won sat in a cramped rooftop apartment. She was a struggling freelance illustrator, working three part-time jobs just to pay her overdue rent. Yet, as she looked at her unfinished canvas, a warm smile spread across her face. The canvas depicted an ethereal portrait of Min, but she had painted him surrounded by soft, golden light, looking peaceful, almost human. Outside her small window, Min’s latest track drifted up from a convenience store down the street. Chae-won closed her eyes, letting the music wash over her. His songs were the only comfort she had left since her mother passed away. She picked up her brush, whispering softly, “If I ever met you… I just want to say thank you for saving me.” THE STREETS — 1:55 A.M. Min was walking through a dark alleyway on the surface when a sudden, violent spasm struck his chest. He gasped, staggering backward against a brick wall. His hand flew to his crimson pendant. It was burning hot, searing through his silk shirt. For five hundred years, he had felt absolutely nothing. But right now, a strange, overwhelming golden energy was pulling at his demonic core, vibrating through his veins. It felt like a pure, unconditional warmth that was completely agonizing to his dark nature. He closed his eyes, tracking the spiritual frequency of the energy. It originated from a dilapidated rooftop building less than a block away. A mortal soul with that much uncorrupted power was dangerous. It had to be neutralized. In a swirl of black mist, he vanished. ROOFTOP APARTMENT — 2:00 A.M. Chae-won gasped as her overhead lightbulb suddenly shattered, plunging her apartment into darkness. The air turned completely freezing, and she could see her own breath. Shadows in the corner thickened, rising up like black smoke. From the darkness, a tall figure stepped out. Chae-won’s heart stopped. The moonlight filtering through her window illuminated his face. It was Min. He stood in her tiny room, his expression terrifyingly cold, his eyes glowing a dangerous crimson. Chae-won scrambled backward, her knees hitting her easel and sending her painting crashing to the floor. “M-Min? How… why are you here?” Min didn’t answer. His eyes landed on the fallen canvas, recognizing his own face. He stepped closer, backing her against the wall. He raised his hand, his long fingers hovering just inches from her throat, intending to rip her soul out. But as he drew closer, the burning in his chest stopped. Instead, a profound calmness washed over him. For the first time in five centuries, the constant, chaotic screaming of the damned souls inside his head went completely silent. Chae-won trembled, looking up into his terrifying red eyes. But she didn't scream or beg. She just looked at him with heartbreaking vulnerability. Min stared at her, his demonic hand shaking. His powers weren't working on her. He couldn't manifest her dark desires because she didn't have any. She didn't want wealth, fame, or revenge. “Who are you?” Min demanded, his voice dropping into a dangerous rumble. Chae-won swallowed hard. “I’m… I’m just a fan.” Min’s face was inches from hers. This human girl possessed a soul that his demonic contracts could never touch a pure soul that somehow held the power to calm the Prince of Hell. He leaned in closer, his breath cold against her skin. “You are going to tell me exactly what you did to me.”
