OPHELIA'S POV
Alpha Kian took a moment to eye and size up Daxton.
"Who are you?" Alpha Kian asked suddenly irritated. He stood walking up to where Daxton stood with arms crossed over his chest. Alpha Kian narrowed his eyes trying to intimidate this stranger who was my second chance mate.
I don't know the kind of game the moon goddess was playing but I hoped with everything in me that I wouldn't be caught in the fire. Ironic of me to think I wouldn't end up in the middle of it all.
After a minute of both men sizing each other up while Mark and I stared at them cluelessly, Daxton broke eye contact, chuckling. It was the best thing my ears had listened to in a while. I shook my head like it would clear it of any kind of thoughts I had towards this man who just showed up out of nowhere.
Alpha Kian felt insulted, you could see it by the way his eyes darkened. His posture hardened, the shoulders that once relaxed were up and stiff, his lips were drawn in a hard line. He looked scary. Daxton turned briskly walking towards the large seat Alpha Kian just stood up from. It didn't take ten minutes for me to be in the same room with my second chance mate for me to find out he was the cocky kind.
Daxton occupied the chair gracefully like it was made for him all this while. He sat crossing his legs; right ankle over his left knee.
Mark seemed even more provoked than Alpha Kian. He made a move to say something but a halt sign from Kian shut him up immediately.
Alpha Kian strolled back to stand just a few feet beside his seat. I couldn't deny that I loved to see this. Someone who could stand up to Alpha Kian although this was just simple, plain, straight up disrespect.
"Who the hell do you think you are to sit in my chair?"
Daxton relaxed back into the chair like there wasn't an angered Alpha beside him who would very much want to have his head off right now. Daxton signaled one of the maids closer and she obeyed. This maid didn't know where her loyalty lay for her to answer Daxton. I almost laughed at the scene.
"Get me something to drink, please. I'm a bit parched." The maid bowed at Daxton then at Kian and hurried out. I bit back a smile.
Daxton finally looked back at the fuming Alpha beside him. "I'm sorry, where were we?"
Alpha Kian looked visibly strained. He took a deep breath in realizing he might be pleasing his visitor a bit more with his expressions.
A bit more calmly, Alpha Kian asked again, "Why the hell do you think you can just come in here, come into my home and disrespect me? Who do you think you are?"
Daxton stared blankly. He held the Alpha's gaze with no emotion on his features. It killed me that I didn't know what he was thinking but I blamed it on the mating bond. It was the only thing that would be making my thoughts focus on him. I'm looking for my triplets for goodness sake.
The maid re-entered the room with a tray in hand. A bottle of water and orange juice both sat on the tray next to two glass cups. She placed it on the table in front of him, bowed to both men and went back to stand at her position.
"Why not? I know where your kids are being held captive? I'm doing you a favor, you realize that?" Daxton relaxed his legs and poured himself orange juice.
I wanted to throw in a reply but Daxton wasn't done.
"I could have just moved on, passed by like nothing had happened, carry on with my life happily but no. For the sake of those innocent little kids, I am here." He leans back taking a gulp from his glass, "I am doing you nothing but a favor. No disrespect here, don't blame me if your male ego is fragile."
I bit down on my lip, partly from amusement and partly from anxiety.
Alpha Kian frowned deeply, "Favor or not, I am smart enough to know when someone is being disrespectful to me and I will not let you make this seem like I'm the shallow minded one."
"Very well Alpha Kian." A lopsided smile or a smirk rather painted Daxton's lip.
"Just because I allowed you into my territory doesn't give you the privilege to be brazen." Alpha Kian turned and stormed out of the room. His Beta followed suit along with Amber. It was just Daxton and I in the room now.
I sighed and dropped my head in my palms.
"You okay?" Daxton's voice floated in the room, the air it's medium. I stood with a force that toppled my chair over. I marched to where he sat, halting a few feet from him.
"You," I pointed an accusatory finger at him leaning a bit forward. "You had better watched the way you behave around here. Favour or not, disrespect is disrespect."
A quizzical looked pulled over at Daxton's features, "Disrespect? Where?"
I rolled my eyes at his antics, "Alpha Kian is a very short tempered man. For your own good, refrain. You may be here to help us find our kids but I’ll appreciate that you mind your attitude around the Alpha."
Daxton held my glare for a minute, "I don't care what Kian says."
I leaned back in smiles, I tried.
"What are we to do about the mating bond between us?" Daxton asked after a minute, holding onto my hand.
I snatched my hand out of his grip like it was the most natural thing in the world, "nothing."
"Nothing?" A raised eyebrow accompanied his question.
I reaffirmed with a smile but from the look of things he didn't seem like he bought my response. He was on his feet in no time, a little inch gap separating our bodies. He leaned towards my lips and I caught my breath closing my eyes, anticipation filling my lungs.
