Chapter seven

OPHELIA'S POV For what seemed like an eternity nothing happened and when I finally opened my eyes Daxton was back on Alpha Liam's seat. I swallowed hard, my cheeks reddening in embarrassment. I chewed on my bottom lip regarding the stranger in front of me notwithstanding what he just did a moment ago. He was seated in Alpha Kian's chair and somehow I could no longer imagine what Alpha Kian looked occupying that chair. The chair seemed like it was made perfectly for this stranger. He c****d his head and I caught myself. I had been staring. I scoffed when I caught the shadow of a smile on his lips. I turned and briskly walked out of the room. When I was down the hall I stopped to breathe. I filled my lungs with oxygen. I was tired of all of this already. I just wanted my babies. I just wanted to live a normal life. Is there such a thing as normal life for a werewolf? I guess not. I managed to locate the Alpha's office within minutes. I placed a knock on the door and didn't even wait to be invited in. I pushed the door open and entered, closing it behind me when I was inside already. Kian didn't even know someone else was in his office. He was pacing from one end of the office. He looked frantic in this particular moment. I felt as though I was doing something wrong, as though I was an intruder. Technically, I was. I took a step forward. He noticed my presence and turned to face me. "What?" He cleared his throat to rid it of any emotion that might as well be considered offensive, "What are you doing here?" I chuckled dryly "Isn't it obvious? Why would I be in your office if I didn't want to see you." His patience was tethering on a thin thread. He always lived up to his reputation. "Yes, Ophelia. You wanted to see me, obviously. What for?" I chuckled again and then took a deep breath and recomposed myself. I spoke in the most serious tone ever, "I wanted to speak with you." He didn't miss a beat, "speak about what?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and the slightest of irritation appeared in my posture. "Whatever would I want to talk to you about, Alpha Kian?" Alpha Kian looked at the window like it was the most intriguing object like he has ever set his eyes on. After merely a second passed, he replied "I am not within you, Ophelia. State what is deep in your skull or I would not know." I bit my tongue to hold back the angry retort that danced at the tip of my mouth. We had issues we had to resolve but I will never be interested in resolving so I simply began speaking of what I came here for. "I came to talk about the triplets." Alpha Kian finally looked at me in the eye since I got here. "I have Mark and the others looking into it at this very moment." I nodded, "I'd also appreciate you let Daxton help out in whatever way he can." Kian scoffed, "What? You do not believe my subjects are capable of finding them?" It was my turn to scoff. I scoffed at his audacity, "I never said that Kian but this wolf knows where our kids are being held captive, the least you can do is let him take charge of this operation." "So now you trust a random wolf? A stranger! May I remind you Ophelia that he just showed up at our doorstep and you're asking me to trust him blindly already?!" A look of anger crossed my expression. "Kian, what lead has Mark found? What? We do not know who those men are, we do not have names, we don't even have a location and someone who knows all these shows up and you wouldn't even give him a chance!" Kian opened his mouth to say something but I continued, I wasn't done. "These are my babies, Kian. They are the best thing to ever happen to me. I will not let you gamble their lives away just because you fear your Alpha ego would be bruised if you trust the only one that can help us." I took a sharp intake of breath and finished, "Do not let your pride nor anger cloud your senses, Kian. These are my children and your children too, if you accept that is. Not like it'll change anything." "I still will not fully trust a stranger. He might be the kidnapper for all we know, Ophelia. He suddenly shows up saying he knows where our kids are. He has information. What if all this is a trap?" He raised his voice at the end. I spoke in a calm voice, "we will never know unless we try. Make peace with him." He nodded in understanding. I turned to exit the room. I had finished saying what I wanted to say and couldn't wait to end this conversation. "Ophelia." I stopped in my tracks and turned back to face him. "Is there something between you and Daxton?" I narrowed my eyes at him, "What do you mean?" He was losing his patience and so was I. He repeated himself, "Is there anything going on between you and Daxton?" I chuckled with anything but humor in it. "You do realize I just met that wolf, right?" "I can never be sure." "Excuse me?" I scoffed. Where does this man get his audacity? I would love to swing by that supermarket one day. "You think I didn't catch that interaction. I know he's your f*****g mate, Ophelia." "Why do you care?" I used every muscle in my body not to show how angry I was. I would not let him know that he could trigger me to that extent, "Why do you f*****g care? Might I bring it back to you in case you have forgotten, you rejected me. You took Amber as Luna so you have no business and no right to stick your nose in my business." Kian stepped back raising hands in surrender. "I was just curious, that's all." I rolled my eyes, "didn't seem like it.” A steady stance, "Yes, nothing. I have so much on my mind right now and one of them is finding my kids. I do not have the time at the moment." I was gone before he would say something else.
