KIAN'S POV
I was seated at my balcony admiring the view from up here. I took a sip from my glass of Brandy. A little wind picked up and I smiled enjoying it.
It's been a day since Daxton arrived at my pack, a day since Ophelia returned, a day since I've been wrapped completely in my thoughts. A day since I got to know that Ophelia was granted a second chance mate and it seemed like that second chance had a better chance at her than I ever would.
I thought about various things at once. Daxton. I couldn't wrap my head around him and his sudden appearance. I could say I hate that man but I know better than to hate who I barely knew. Barely knowing someone was a dangerous thing and what is more dangerous is Ophelia trusting him already and forcing me to follow suit.
Everything about that man annoyed me. He was this one cocky and annoying kind of person. The way he brushed me off earlier made me feel stupid. Every single action of his got on my nerves. I had no bone of tolerance for that man in my body. To think he was Ophelia's mate too.
I grit my teeth and leaning forward I picked up the bottle of Brandy from the table where it sat and poured myself more of it. Ophelia was definitely not the woman who left this pack six years ago. I just couldn't place my finger on it but she was different. I wondered if becoming a mother had changed her. The Ophelia of six years ago was more reserved and would tolerate every bullshit thrown her way but I could swear that she of now could never. She grew. She changed in a delightful way. She became protective; protective of her kidn*pped children, my kidn*pped children. The irony.
My subjects still haven't found a lead on the kids and I was still debating on trusting Daxton or not.
What Ophelia had said to me kept resounding through the walls of my mind. Why didn't I want to trust Daxton?
"Maybe because you just met him and all these could be a trap." A little voice reminded me.
I chewed on the inside of my lip. Maybe all these was a trap but we never know if we never try. I phoned my Beta and Gamma telling them to meet me in the meeting room in ten minutes.
During that ten minutes I convinced myself to give Daxton a try. I would hear him out but would always be on guard nonetheless.
When I walked out of my room my mind was set. I would befriend Daxton. I had a guard go inform him about the meeting and also escort him to the meeting room.
When I arrived at the meeting room, my Beta Mark and my Gamma, Jasper were seated already awaiting my presence.
My Gamma acknowledged my presence the minutes I stepped in. I laughed and walked to where he sat at the table to bro-hug him. I did the same too for Mark.
I laughed at one of Jasper's jokes and sat at my seat at one end of the table. They were just four seats present and three was occupied, Daxton was yet to be here.
"I called this meeting to discuss about my missing children." I started taking a cup of alcohol from Mark, "you have found no lead yet?"
"Not yet. It is hard to track down the children. We have no solid information, no face, no name. It's like we're chasing the wind."
I nodded in understanding. It would be hard locating them without external help. We had nothing.
I took a sip from the cup letting the liquid burn down my throat.
Jasper spoke next, "Ophelia is back. How do you feel?"
I laughed gulping down the rest of the content in the cup and posing it for Mark to refill. "Is there anything to feel? I rejected her. Amber is Luna."
"Yes but is Amber your mate?" Jasper asked in a quiet tone. I flinched nonetheless.
The door being pushed wide open interrupted the conversation and I thanked the goddess I didn't have to dwell on that question nor did I have to answer it.
"Gentlemen!" Daxton annoying voice filled the room, "am I late to this party?"
I grit my teeth. I had to be friends with this man. Torture.
I cleared my throat sitting up, "not actually. You're right on time. I wanted to ask you all you know about my children's kidnapping."
Daxon nodded looking serious for a minute. "While the k********g was taking place, I could only manage to take a picture of the plate number of the car."
A hopeful glint lit in my chest immediately. "Can I see it?"
"Sure." Daxton pulled out his phone from his pocket handing it over to me. I took a look and it was perfect. I passed the phone to Mark who sat beside me.
To Mark I said, "take the phone and print that out. We finally have a lead."
Mark and Jasper stood bowing a bit. They turned to leave but Daxton objected.
"You simply cannot leave with my phone."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "why? They need it to print the picture."
Daxton shook his head, "You simply cannot."
"Except there is something you're hiding I see no reason why you are making this a big deal." I spoke eyeing him suspiciously.
That shut him up immediately. Mark and Jasper exited the room. I stood up going to stand beside Daxton who was still seated.
"You may do whatever you want to me. You can play your games with me but I advise you steer clear from Ophelia. Don't and you will regret it terribly."
Daxton remained expressionless but spoke up "you have nothing with her, why are you so concerned?"
"I answer to no one, not even you. Take my advice and leave Ophelia alone."
At that I walked out of the room.
