DAXTON'S POV
I looked around the empty room. I was the only one seated in it. Alpha Kian had just left minutes ago. He looked like he had won a battle walking out of the room with his head high and chest puffed out. It was comical to behold. He thought he had me under him or he was finally gaining in on me. I shook my head in amusement, he was stupid to say the least.
I chuckled relaxing back into this chair, an evil glint in my eyes. These people still didn't know who they were dealing with. If only they knew. They were as clueless as anyone could be and I think that is to my advantage. I truly am the best actor there is. They didn't know who I truly was and they didn't care, stupid to say the least but I am grateful for their stupidity. When one wants something, they'll do anything to get it. I was helping them get back their children after all.
Sitting back only for a few minutes I decided to exit the room. Just at the door I came face to face with Mark, Alpha Kian's Beta. The stiff faced beta. He looked expressionless half the time, one could only wonder what was running through his head. One would have to wait till he said his thoughts out loud before you could know what they were.
"Here's your phone, we're done with it." he thrust the phone back into my hands. I raised an eyebrow at him but he stared back at me without any emotion displayed on his features.
"Thank you I guess?" I said to ease the silence. He turned and walked away immediately, rude to say the least. I walked back into the room, sat back down and dialed a number on my phone. I tapped my leg on the floor while chewing on my lower lip. He better pick up
It rang for a few seconds and someone accepted the call. I put the phone to my ear.
"Hello" came from the other end and I responded.
"I want to speak with Alpha Xavier. Put him on."
A bit of ruffling came from the other end before the voice spoke up again. "Alpha Xavier is not in. He's carrying out an attack this very minute."
I was confused. "What attack? When did this happen? Who is he attacking?"
The voice on the other end replied me, "Alpha Xavier launched an attack on Alpha Kian's pack."
I was shocked. When did all these happen and no one cared to inform me. I couldn't believe he was attacking already. This friend of mine can be so rash sometimes.
I really needed to talk to him. I couldn't wait any minute more. "Give the phone to the b*stard, now! I need to speak to him, what part of that do you not understand?" I yelled out in frustration.
"I'm really sorry, the Alpha is not here and you cannot speak to him but once he returns I will relay your message to him."
The line clicked dead. I stared at my phone with my mouth open with shock. He ended the call on me. I sighed and pocketed my phone. Alpha Xavier cannot meet me in this pack. He shouldn't know that I am here. I stood panicky. I looked around the room thinking of what to do.
I stood still for a minute lost in thoughts. I couldn't come up with any ideas. The last time I want is for the b*stard to meet me here. All I have worked for over the years could crumble if this happens. I needed to act fast.
I turned to leave the room and Ophelia was standing just by the door. She leaned off the door and walked into the room.
I tried to delete my previous emotions off my features and replaced it with something lighter.
"Who were you on the phone?" Ophelia stopped when she was just a few centimeters away from me.
I looked at anywhere but her. "Someone." I couldn't even find my own voice. I could bet that my sudden nervousness had everything to do with the mate bond which was undeniably existing between the two of us.
"And who is that someone?" She question flicking her tongue in the process.
I decided to act offensive, "Excuse me?"
Ophelia didn't back down, "Did I mumble?" She gave me a look that was clearly suspicious. Did she hear anything?
I was genuinely shocked. It was beginning to dawn on me that the trust she had for me was diminishing as the seconds were rolling by. "Look, I was just speaking to someone like every other person does."
"Really?” She c****d her brows and stepped closer.
I tried circling around her to leave the room but she stepped in my path, obstructing my way. I stepped back to put some space between us.
"Speak, Daxton!" Ophelia raised her tone a bit.
"You have no right to question me. First you spy and eavesdrop on my conversation and now you're demanding answers to your questions and sneakingly accusing me of things?" I asked getting annoyed.
Ophelia scoffed, "If there simply was nothing to this, you would answer my questions with ease and an open mind. Only a guilty conscience would act the way you're acting right now."
"A guilty conscience?" I shook my head in disbelief, "So we're going to ignore the fact that you were spying on me? You eavesdropped, Ophelia. And nothing of that guilty conscience allegation, what if I just do not want to answer you?"
She narrowed her eyes at me, "why would you not want to answer me, Mate?"
"Ophelia, you're overstepping. Drop it." I grunted and rolled my eyes. She was getting on my nerves and I don't act so well when people get on my nerves; whosoever it may be.
She reached for my phone aggressively.
"Excuse you?!" I stepped back a bit but she was not giving up. She reached again and I was vexed. I retaliated and with one strike to the head she was down. She fainted.
It took me a minute to realize what had just happened. I looked around the room in frenzied panic, I was alone. That was a huge relief, what if someone had seen me?
I looked down at my mate crumpled on the floor and unconscious.
I was at a loss on what to do and if Alpha Kian walked in on this scene....
Dear Lord!
