Elena Rodriguez spent her entire life building walls—against her past, against corruption, against anything that threatened the stability she fought so hard to achieve. As a brilliant financial analyst at one of New York’s most prestigious banks, she believed numbers never lied. But when a routine investigation uncovers a web of fraud tied to powerful figures, she becomes a target in a game she never agreed to play.

Dominic Veronesi was born into power, his name whispered in the darkest corners of the city. As the heir to an infamous Italian-American crime family, his world is built on loyalty, violence, and secrets. But behind the ruthless reputation, Dominic harbors a dangerous ambition—to reform the empire his family built on blood.

Their worlds collide when Elena witnesses something she shouldn’t have. Suddenly, she’s thrust into Dominic’s orbit, a pawn in a high-stakes battle between crime and justice. He offers her protection—in exchange for her expertise in untangling the corruption that threatens them both.

What starts as an uneasy alliance turns into something neither of them can control. But in a world where trust is a luxury and love is a weakness, the question remains—will they save each other, or will the truth destroy them both?

Power. Corruption. Betrayal. And a love that defies the odds.

Chapter 1: Unexpected Collision
Sometimes, fate doesn’t knock—it crashes right into you. The streets of New York pulsed with their usual urgency—yellow cabs honking, pedestrians weaving through traffic, and the occasional street vendor shouting out deals on hot dogs and pretzels. Elena Rodriguez moved with practiced precision, her heels clicking against the pavement as she made her way to work. She had precisely seven minutes before her morning meeting, and there was no room for error in her schedule. She had always been the kind of woman who planned everything down to the last second. It was how she had clawed her way out of her rough neighborhood and into one of the most prestigious banks in the city. But even the best-laid plans could crumble in an instant. A blaring horn startled her, and before she could react, she was yanked backward. Strong hands gripped her waist, pulling her away from the curb just as a black sports car sped past, narrowly missing her. The scent of expensive cologne and something darker—gunpowder, maybe—filled her senses. She gasped, her body pressed against the solid chest of a stranger. Elena’s POV “What the hell?” I spun around, shoving at the man who had grabbed me. “You think you can just put your hands on me?” Dark eyes met mine—sharp, calculating, and laced with amusement. The man smirked, his grip loosening just enough for me to step back. He was tall, dressed in an all-black suit that screamed money and danger. There was something about the way he carried himself, the effortless confidence of someone who knew the world bent to his will. “I just saved your life, sweetheart,” he drawled, voice smooth as silk. “A little gratitude wouldn’t kill you.” I crossed my arms, heart still hammering in my chest. “I had the right of way.” He chuckled, shaking his head. “That car didn’t seem to care.” A group of men in similar suits lingered nearby, watching our interaction with silent interest. My instincts screamed that I had just stumbled into something I wasn’t supposed to. “Who are you?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. The man tilted his head, as if debating whether to humor me. Then, with an infuriating smirk, he said, “Dominic. Dominic Veronesi.” The name sent a jolt through me. Even if I had spent my life buried in financial reports and spreadsheets, I wasn’t ignorant. The Veronesi family was whispered about in certain circles, their influence stretching far beyond legitimate businesses. And I had just crashed right into their world—literally. Dominic’s POV She wasn’t like most women he met. Most would have been flustered or charmed by his presence. But Elena Rodriguez? She was fire wrapped in steel, and Dominic found himself intrigued. “Looks like you’re in a hurry,” he remarked, glancing at the scattered papers she had dropped in the chaos. He crouched to pick them up, glancing at the letterhead. Financial fraud division. Interesting. She snatched the papers from his grasp. “I don’t need your help.” “Maybe not,” he admitted, tucking his hands into his pockets. “But you might need my protection.” Elena’s eyes flashed with suspicion. “From what?” Before he could answer, a commotion erupted a few feet away. Shouts. A scuffle. Then—a gunshot. Elena turned just in time to see a man collapse against the pavement, blood pooling around him. Her breath caught as she met Dominic’s gaze. His expression was unreadable, but there was no panic—just a quiet understanding that this was nothing new to him. Her stomach twisted. She had witnessed something she wasn’t meant to see. And Dominic Veronesi wasn’t about to let her walk away so easily.
