Can't you smell that smell?
I can feel my muscles light up as I run, free and unbridled soaring over damp earth. I've always loved the smell that follows a lazy rain, fat drops soaking into the soil making the ground Soft squishing under my light steps as I make my way to the edge of the forest...
"Short lived is a false life, all freedom come at a price."
It's been harder to keep the voice in my head quite, she most always right tho extra specially now with my 18th birthday approaching.
"The fires dance will cut down the tree, making clear for all to see,
silver tipped the tongue of legend,
she can hid no more,
long reign the queen of dragons..."
These words echoed in the back of my mind for weeks now as I find myself waking from fever dreams, blood boiling like I've caught the plague...
"Fingers crossed right?"
I do my best not to engage with this internal voice, "She" has always been there in the back of my mind, but if I wanted to avoid trouble I avoided drawing attention to my inner dialogue seeing as I live in a very superstitious town where being marked a witch gets you sent to the covenant for further examination.
No one dare speak against the covenant for their guidance has keep our town safe from
Fae and famine alike. The Fae that live in the outermost parts of our boarders are made up mostly of half Fae, those who have been conceived from a human Fairy entanglements. while some Half Fae have more human features with little signs revealing them such as golden tinted eyes that resemble feline nature others bare more animalistic amenities like horns antlers or even a tail.
Was it really asking too much to be normal? While I didn't have the eyes or appendages of a wild animal, I had always felt like there was indeed a beast living beneath my skin, "She" was wild and I knew nothing would tame her when I share her dreams she shows me the skys soaring high over forest and mountains I've never seen... It's a rare comfort and I find myself upset upon waking up in my human body.
"Human? ha what a treat you are in for."
I ignore her again knowing better then to ask her to tell me anything useful, just a crazy cork in my head I tell myself.
"Not a full lie."
"The fires dance will cut down the tree, making clear for all to see,
silver tipped the tongue of legend,
she can hid no more,
long reign the queen of dragons..."
Her singing has been constant, the more she talks the more I know something is coming something I've been hiding from for the better part of 18years... So tonight I leave this little town, no one will miss me or think to look for me once I've gone, just a orphan who ran from the world not far from the truth again. I look around to make sure the rats haven't followed me ( three rather annoying young street punks, who I happen to be fond of none the less) no bushes shake or snicker so I continue to blaze my path know it will be hard to see in the night but rather easy for me to smell.
"Dragon!"
"Don't be silly."
After all no one has seen a Dragon in thirty years give or take, and it's mighty hard to over look a great winged beast.
"Then what pray tell are you afraid off?"
then I noticed it was true I had started shaking even though I don't engage with her I just had without thinking and she hasn't been wrong before. I can smell something something with the deep rich aroma of Earth and cinnamon something spicy yet substantial sexy yet unyielding. My sense height and my gaze becomes focused searching for the source of this alluring sent hoping to feast, I'm not normally caught off guard thanks to my uncanny senses but what I found a few yard ahead of me near the base of the mountain next to a inviting hot spring had me lost for words.
I found not a Dragon or a meal, but a man, a man whom at this moment hadn't noticed me yet but I was furiously taking note of him tall and graceful with finely chiseled features even though I wasn't close enough to make them out I could tell he was handsome. That glorious smell hit me again it was him I was drawn to him but why?
"Dragons are known for their beauty."
She said sounding entranced as well as I was. I shook my head this gem of a man didn't have a wing or tail in sight and I could see it all from where I lingered as I saw him begin to disrobe.
"Of course he'd come to the springs to bathe"
Suddenly feeling like a perv spying on unsuspecting prey
