Kristen's POV:
"Please, get in, Ms. Helberg, Ms. Clarke." The bodyguard bowed respectfully again.
I shook my head, resigned to the fact they wouldn't take no for an answer. Pulling Lily along, I climbed into the car, my mind still a whirlwind of confusion and mixed emotions.
The car glided smoothly through the streets, the interior so quiet I could hear our breathing. I fished my phone out of my bag, hesitated for a moment, then decided to text Cassius.
[Did you send the bodyguards?]
The screen lit up almost instantly with his reply: [Yes, I did.]
My grip on the phone tightened involuntarily, my heart skipping a beat. His concern warmed me but also left me feeling more conflicted. Unsure how to respond, I simply typed: [Thank you.]
