Chapter: One Fated Moment
“A VIP just arrived. He’s in the private room. Room number one.”
“Elara, can you attend to that room? Please take their order to them in five minutes.”
“Okay,” replied Elara.
Elara moved to the private room. She truly couldn’t contain the exhaustion. She was nearly collapsing from the night. She had been working since noon; her feet hurt, her body ached, and her mind had been somewhere else entirely.
That morning, the hospital called concerning the due hospital bill of her father, Silas Vance, who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness right after her mom passed away.
Elara sighed.
Elara, someone called.
She turned and saw her best friend, Lena, walking toward her. She's one of the regulars here and her family owned some shares, she's the reason I was able to get a job in this expensive restaurant.
What are doing no?,Lena asked .
I'm taking this order to the private room upstairs.
The two had become best friends despite coming from completely different backgrounds.
“You look exhausted.”
“I’m fine,” Elara replied.
“And you’ve always said everything is fine,” Lena sighed.
“So, have you come up with a way to get the money for the hospital bill before they stop treatment on your father?”
“Not yet. I don’t have enough savings left, but I’m thinking of borrowing money from the bank. I can’t use our home as collateral.”
“If you need to borrow money, why not come to me?”
Elara responded, “I don’t want to bother you.”
Her friend Lena was insanely rich. She didn’t really know why the two of them, who were worlds apart from each other, had become the best of friends.
Lena, during college, was definitely loved by many and had lots of suitors. Only boys who wanted to hit on her approached her, and the ladies avoided her like the plague.
When Elara began talking to her and they eventually became close, the students started calling her Lena’s maid. They couldn’t blame them. She did look like a maid, especially during the time she was struggling with her school fees and medical bills.
Compared to the fashionable and sophisticated Lena, Elara didn’t really care because she knew Lena was a good person, and she was her friend no matter what anyone said.
Back then, Lena was the one who helped sort out her father’s medical bills when it became impossible for her to pay. She was willing to pay for her school until she graduated, but she didn’t want people to think she was Lena’s friend because of her money.
But Lena didn’t mind what people said, so she decided to help her get a job in the restaurant, and the pay was good;she used it to sort out her debts every month..
“How much money do you need?” Elara hesitated.
“I got this.”
what do you mean you got thi..
Before Lena could respond, Elara was already at the door of the private room.
“Come in,” a voice answered.
“Good afternoon, sir. Here is your order.”
Elara walked into the private room and placed the dishes on the table. When she glanced over at the man sitting there, she saw an impeccably dressed man wearing a tailored suit. His dark hair was neatly styled, and his expression commanded the entire room without saying a word.
Beside him stood a man who looked like a secretary, carrying a cream envelope and explaining something to the handsome man sitting there.
“Mr. Valerius.”
The Thorne family has made another offer. They are asking for 10% of Valerius Industries to be part of the dowry for the marriage of Victoria Thorne.
and I just found out miss Thorne is out of the country for a movie production and she will be back in three months time,so her Father is using this to stall the marriage and hoping to get more benefits.
Victoria Thorne is the only daughter of the Thorne family. She is a famous actress. Elara had seen her on billboards throughout Manhattan, but she had not heard anything about her getting married into the Valerius family, which meant the gentleman here was Kaelen Valerius, CEO of Valerius Industries, a thirty-two-year-old billionaire everyone in New York had heard of.
“I have told the Thorne family that if they need any other demand, then the marriage is cancelled,” Kaelen said.
“Just because I choose Victoria, they think she is going to be my perfect bride , I chose her because my grandfather is a bit fond of her and she decided to leave a day to marriage ? Tell the Thorne family the marriage is off.”
“But Sir, what are you going to tell the chairman if you don’t get married tomorrow?”
“Find me a bride.”
Elara lowered her eyes and pretended to concentrate in arranging the food.
But the information made it impossible.
“Sir, what are you going to tell the chairman if you don’t get married tomorrow?”
“I will get married tomorrow. Look for a respectable woman and offer her a good amount of money. She should be ready when the marriage registry opens up, kaelen ordered.
sir.” Elare called out .
Kaelen’s head stopped moving.
“Her heart skipped a beat. Before she could consider it, she spoke.”
“Mr. Valerius?”
Kaelen’s secretaryAdrian looked surprised.
Sorry to interrupt your conversation sir,
"you already have".said kaelen
Kaelen simply stared at her, with his eyes on her he was even more intimidating.
Elara took a deep breath.
“If you are looking for a bride, I can do it.”
Adrian nearly dropped the folder in his hands.
“What?”
Elara forced herself to continue.
“I know this may sound ridiculous, but I can be your bride, and you pay me.”
Kaelen stared at her.
“Why?”
“Because I really need the money.”
There was no shame in her voice, only desperation.
Kaelen’s eyes narrowed.
“So, I am willing to be your bride if you can please give me enough money.”
Kaelen remained silent.
He simply stared at her.
“What is your name?” he asked.
“Elara Vance.”
“Do you understand what you are offering?”
She looked into his eyes.
“Yes.”
“Very well. My secretary will contact you.”
“You may leave.”
“Sir, are you going to do what she said?”
“Yes. Get a detailed information of her.”
If its cleared draft a marriage contract and contact her.
After Elara stepped out of the private room, she went to meet her best friend to share the absurd experience and seek her advice.
“What?! You did what?” Lena shouted. “Are you out of your mind?”
“At that moment, I said yes,” Elara said.
“Do you know what you are getting yourself into?”
“Kaelen is a ruthless man, and any mistake with him, your life is over,” Lena said.
“Elara, even if you are that desperate for the money,Why will you suggest a contract marriage with the most ruthless billionaire in all of New York?”
“I don’t have any choice. When I heard him tell his secretary to look for a bride and that he would give them an offer, I decided to accept the offer. I don’t even know if he is going to call me back.”
“Well, I hope not,” Lena said.
“I hope he does,” Elara whispered.
