Chapter 19

Lily felt sick to her stomach when Alpha Aiden had said she, in a matter of words ‘Had the heart of a Luna’ Was he hoping she would accept Randall as a chosen mate when he returned today? Did he think she would refuse the mate the Goddess blessed her with for him? If she were to reject her mate, it would most definitely not be for Randall. She had wondered what would happen if Nile or she had a mate revealed to them that wasn’t each other, what would they do they would only know if that happened and both had agreed that they would give their blessings and respect what the other chose at the time, but in no way in hell was she going to reject her mate for Randall even if the Alpha himself demanded it, she would rather be a rogue than his Luna. Bile filled her throat at the very thought and tears stung her eyes. ‘No’ she thought the Alpha wouldn’t do that to her, he had sent Randall away because of how he had been after all, and had told her Father he would guarantee her safety on Randall’s return. He wouldn’t have said that if he didn’t mean it. He was a good and fair Alpha who respected the Moon Goddess. He also knew of her and Niles secret. Lily blinked away the tears and straightened herself up, she looked around the corridor and noted thankfully no one was around to see her brief meltdown. Lily made her way back to the kitchens where her mother was busy prepping the feast along with the other cooks. Lily cleared her throat to get their attention.

‘’OK ladies, I have taken some food up to Alpha Aiden, I am heading off to the nursery now but will come back to help finish up and dress the room with you if you still want the extra hands on deck?’’ she smiled. Lily had started doing a few hours in the afternoon at the pack nursery for the last 5 months, she had found she had a natural way with the little ones and absolutely loved being with them.

Helen hugged Lily and smiled widely at her.

‘’I am so proud of you little miss. Thank you for your help, I know its not the easiest party to help set up… I know I’m not best pleased about it’’ she said with a forced chuckle at the end.

‘’Mom, really its fine. I am sure the jerk will keep himself to himself now, and who knows his mate may be revealed to him at the party too.’’ She tried to give some reassurance to her mother and the other ladies nodded in agreement, although not one single person in that kitchen had faith in her words.

Lily kissed her mothers cheek and smiled her goodbyes to the two women.

‘’See you in a couple of hours’’ she waved as she left.

Lily headed toward the nursey, she planned on doing some singing time and a story with the little ones today. She heard her name being called as she reached the nursery gates. She turned to see Nile and Billy both bare chested in just shorts. She licked her lips at the sight of Nile, he was so defined and muscular now. His body looked in the shape of a 21 year old warrior. He looked delicious. Billy was toned but not a patch on her gorgeous Nile.

‘’Hey Nile, bit hot were you’’ she joked, trying to hide her pure delight and the need to lick him from abs to collar bone and back again.

‘’Oh, yeah we just went for a run. Billy reckoned he could out run me but failed’’ he laughed and Billy did an over dramatic eye roll.

‘’What ever Nile, I swear you made me trip over that bare tree root so you’d win… I’m going for a shower and to get ready for this joke party later’’ another eye roll.  

‘’I just wanted to check in with you, see how you’re doing. ‘’ he looked filled with concern, his finger twitched wanting to caress Lily’s face to give her comfort.

‘’I am fine, honestly. I know there are so many people here who will look out for me, and who knows he might be OK now Nile. We have to give him a chance to redeem himself, it was a long time ago he was here being Alpha Arsehole you know’’ she tried to sound positive, for both his sake and her own. Nile didn’t look all that convinced but nodded in agreement.

‘’Yeah my Dad wanted me to clear something up also’’ he paused as he noticed her instantly tense up and the colour in her face pale.

‘’Lily, it is nothing bad. He just wanted to make sure you didn’t get the wrong idea earlier when he said you had the heart of a Luna…’’ Lily let out a breath she didn’t realise she was holding in. and relief waved from her head to her toes.

‘’Oh, I did wonder if he was going to order me to take Randall as a chosen mate initially, but then I had a chat with myself and hoped he meant it as a compliment’’ she shyly replied, it was an honor in fairness the Alpha had said that to her.

‘’Yes baby, he only meant to compliment your good heart. Can I tell him you are OK and that you are not thinking of running away in the night’’ he asked with a small smile.

‘’Yes, in fact please tell him that I am honoured to have my heart described as the heart of a Luna. There is no greater compliment a she-wolf could wish for’’ she smiled

‘’Spoken as a true Luna my love, I so want to kiss you right now. You are my world you know baby.’’ Niles eyes were filled with a mixture of pride, love and lust as he gazed at her in awe, the electricity dancing between them. Unspoken hopes that they would be true mates in just a few months.

‘’That will have to wait until there are no eyes on us, I can see a few side glances from a few members as we are stood her innocently. I am going before anyone’s tongues start wagging rumours, see you tonight’’ She blushed.

A black SUV slowly drove up the driveway as Nile turned to walk back to the house, Nile spotted it and knew exactly who or what was inside. He knew he would have spotted him talking to Lily too.

‘’Please Goddess, let Lily be right. Let enough time have passed for him to be different.’’ He thought out loud.

Nile jogged to the house where his mother was hugging Randall on the drive, outside the house. His Father looked less happy about seeing his first born Son.

‘’Hey Randall, good journey I hope’’ Nile stated in attempt to be polite and respectful in his parents presence and outside the pack house.

‘’Well, well look who got all beefed up while big brother was away. You may make a fine Beta for me yet little Brother’’ Randall smirked. Stood next to each other Nile was now the bigger and stronger of the two, Randall had not much changed in regards of size by the look of him.

‘’Ah you see, from where I am standing I believe you are the little brother and I am the younger brother’’ Nile laughed as he jogged into the house, he caught his father holding in a laugh as he winked as he passed him.

‘’Still the obnoxious little pick that went away then’’ Kit said as Nile told the story of his welcome run in with his brother.

‘’We need to watch the girls closer than ever Nile, we can’t let on to them but we need to make sure one of us walks them home every night’’ Billy stated with a very serious face.

‘’I agree Bill, but I don’t want him catching on to me and Lily… as much as it pains me im going to have to ask you guys to watch over Lil and I will watch over Mai and Ava.’’

The two friends agreed.

‘’So that’s settled, we watch him like a hawk, and guard the girls with our very lives… nothing can or will happen to them. I am sure Dad will have a distant guard around Lily also, I will ask just in case.’’ Nile paused to take in their nods of agreement before he finally stated ‘’Right then, bugger off so I can get myself sorted. Randall is with my parents and James at the moment in the office. Lily should be due to help finish setting up here in a bit and I would like us all to be downstairs while she is. One of you can make an excuse to walk her and Helen home once they are done.’’ Nile felt calmer knowing the three friends had a plan and that the two friends he felt more were brothers to him than friends always had his back and cared for Lily too, so much they’d take on Randall if they had to.

Billy and Kit left and made their way to the dining room as they were both ready and Nile stripped for his shower. He washed well but quickly as he didn’t want to waste any time in getting to Lily’s side. Once washed and dried Billy dressed in a smart casual outfit of Navy trousers and a white short sleeved shirt, leaving the top two buttons undone. He slipped on pair of tan loafers and headed out after a spray of Lily’s favourite cologne. He rushed downstairs to see the room was finished and the women had out done themselves as always, there were welcome home banners and streamers, white and silver balloons. White rose table centre pieces with white a white candle in the centre. White pressed table cloths and napkins. It was elegant and crisp.  The food was laid out in the usual buffet style and a band was setting up on the far temporary stage that had been build that morning.

Nile couldn’t help but feel annoyed at the trouble everyone had gone to for such a prick.

He looked around the empty room and spotted Kit sat alone, twiddling a spoon.

‘’Hey, looks like they finished up earlier than expected huh?’’ Nile asked

‘’Yes, they were just doing the final touches as we came down. Billy said he wanted a stretch of his legs so said he would walk their way home. They didn’t look at him like he had two heads so was all good’’ Kit reassured Nile, as he knew that was the unspoken question he really had in his mind.

Nile nodded and patted his friend on the shoulder

‘’Man, you don’t need to give any thanks. Lily is our friend too you know. She is as entitled to feel safe in her own surroundings’’ Kit stated.

‘’Yeah, but still… I’m glad to have you guys at my side. You never let me down’’

‘’Ok stop that s**t, I’m getting scared you’re going to start hugging me in a minute’’ Kit laughed trying to lighten the heavy mood for them both.
