I stood frozen, my heart racing, as Ethan's black SUV disappeared into the morning traffic. What had just happened? Why did he have to make such a public display? And what did he want from me?
As I turned to head to my first class, Sophia caught up to me, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Elsie, spill the beans! What did Ethan Denison want with you?"
I sighed, trying to play it cool. "I have no idea. He just showed up out of nowhere and asked me to go to his house."
Sophia's eyes widened. "That's so hot! You have to tell me everything."
I rolled my eyes, trying to downplay the situation. "There's nothing to tell. I don't even like him anymore."
Sophia raised an eyebrow. "Really? Because it looked like you were totally into him back there."
I blushed, feeling a flutter in my chest. Maybe I wasn't as over Ethan as I thought.
As we walked to our first class, Sophia kept probing me for details. I tried to brush it off, but I couldn't shake the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't control.
When we arrived at our classroom, I spotted a note on my desk. It was from Ethan.
"Meet me at my house at 5 pm. Come alone."
My heart skipped a beat. What did he have planned?
After class, Sophia and I grabbed lunch at the cafeteria. I couldn't concentrate on our conversation, my mind wandering back to Ethan's enigmatic smile.
As the day dragged on, I found myself glancing at the clock every few minutes. 5 pm seemed like an eternity away.
Finally, the bell rang, signaling the end of our last class. I gathered my things and headed out of the school building, my heart racing with anticipation.
