Chapter 1: A small town called Ravenwood
"I'll see you later."
the door shut behind Mary as she put her strap from her small black leather purse over her shoulder. She'd decided to go drive for a bit in the Oldsmobile her dad left for her to receive on her 18th birthday. It was the only thing he had left her when she was five. To this day, thinking about it still makes her feel ill. Driving was her escape, a break from reality where she could enjoy the wind blowing in the car and flowing through her hair. She could be by herself, singing songs as loud as she wanted where no one could hear her. She could scream, and no one would ever know. She liked that about driving. It was therapeutic and kept her mind calm.
It was the anniversary of her father leaving. Her mom, Kathryn, wouldn't talk about him much, but if she did, she only recalled all of the nice memories that they had shared. Whenever Mary would ask why he left, Kathryn would say:
"He had to make a choice. He still loves you very much, dear."
How could Mary ever be satisfied with an evasive answer like that? She barely knew him, but the hole she felt in her chest was bigger than the lies she would tell. Any friends who came over throughout her childhood would ask where her dad is, and she would reply with:
"Long gone somewhere. Who knows. it doesn't matter anyway, I didn't know the guy."
This was the fifteenth year since that night. Mary had recently turned twenty in April. June 11th was always a hard day for her. As little as she'd speak about what's on her mind any day of the week, on this day, she'd barely speak at all. Kathryn always worried, but she knew her daughter was in more pain than she could even express.
Mary's heading for her boyfriend Jordan's house. He was the neighborhood bad boy who worked on motorcycles. He was two years older than her, at the young age of 22. He has sleak black hair with muscle tanks & black jeans on usually, & today is the same thing. He's working in his Harley, one his father bought in the 70s that had been restored. They loved to fool around on the bike, but Mary only just started dating him, he's her first boyfriend cause she didn't like anyone in high school & shies away from people most of the time & has her whole life.
"Hey baby."
"Hey Jordan. Can I sit?"
"Only if I can seat you there."
Mary's walking over to him as he's standing up & cleaning his hands on a wet rag. He's bracing to grab her hips before he presses her forcefully against himself. She loves the taste of his mouth.
He's lifting her up before stepping onto the bike & seating her on his lap. She's pressing herself against his chest while moving her hips slightly on his lap. She's slowly moving faster & faster, but not going above a slower speed. She isn't fully ready yet. Men kind of make her nervous.
"Mmph, Mary, you're so hot. I like it when you use your tongue like that."
"ha, it's what I'm good at."
She loves kissing his beautiful face with his sharp features. He's so handsome & a good distraction when she needs it. His lips are soft & always a little moist. He knew how to kiss well & the women love it, but for now, she's his only girl. He's always so hard when she kisses him, but he's loving the chase but can't wait to f**k her all night long. He's never with his girls for long, & Mary knows this & started dragging him on so she can soak up every moment with him, & make him fall in love with her.
"I just want to rip your clothes off, mmph, hah." Jordan's impatience is showing.
"Mmm, not yet. A little longer, my love."
His d**k is pressing in between her thighs. She's getting so horny that she may actually break this time. She knows he's quite big too, which is great for her as she's 5'8. She's grinding really fast on his d**k, he's starting to moan in her mouth & she's biting his lip. She's trying so hard to not rip his shirt off that she's starting to dig her nails into his back. Jordan's gripping onto her hips tighter before sliding them down to her ass. He knows it's her weak spot.
"Ohhh, Jordan... f-fuck."
"You know you want it."
"Mmph, fuck."
"Hah, you don't look so serious now."
"Mmph, wait for it."
Mary's moving her hips slightly to grab his d**k. He's letting out a gasp of breath while she's stroking it slightly & smiling evily.
Mary's pushing him down on the bike so she can lay on top of him, but as she's pushing him, they slip off of the bike & start falling to the ground.
"MARY-"
"HAHAHA!"
Mary's landing on her arm & holding herself up. She didn't even get a scratch on her or land that hard. Her reflexes have always been quite fast. Jordan, however, falls on his side and bashes his hip.
"BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Mary can't help but laugh at the neighborhood badboy Jordan Kirt falling flat on his face. It was the funniest thing to her.
"Ugh, f**k I hit my head."
Oh, s**t.
"are you okay? Crap I'm sorry, but it was so funny. you're bleeding?"
He's moving his hand off of his head & they're both staring at the blood.
"Ah, damn."
"I'll drive you to the hospital, don't worry. I know it's close but I don't want you walking."
"Huh. Okay."
Mary's lifting him off of the ground & dragging him to her Oldsombile. She's dropping him off at the hospital & calling his best friend for him. He knows she's off & more forward than usual, so he doesn't try to make her stay & no way did he want her to think he wasn't fine. He's always keeping up his tough boy act.
"I'll see you later then."
"You sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine Mary, I'll call you later."
First, Mary drove through the middle of her small town called Ravenwood in Northern America. Ravenwood was centuries old, dating as far back as the 1300s when the name was originally given to the town. Many old brick buildings from later centuries still stood down the main street. At night, they're lit was all sorts of lights; candles, fairy lights, patio lights, and so on. The old signs on some of these stores were kept up in great shape over the years. There were even signs found from the 1500s that were restored. Ravenwood was so cute and even brought in tourists in the warmer months, but Mary likes to see all of the buildings whenever she goes for a drive. The baker waving new customers off before running back inside to check on baked goods, the florist selling couples bouquets on his wooden trolly stand, the smiles on everyone's faces. All of the happiness floating around distracted her from her suffering for a few moments. She could almost forget anything had ever happened to her at all.
Mary decided to stop at the bakery before she hit the backroads. She wanted to take a long journey, and she needed to stock up on food first. She parked the car right next to the bakery in a small alleyway & walked in. The same bell they've had since she could remember rang as she opened the door. Mr Lentz, the owner of the bakery who waved new customers off a few moments ago, welcomed her with the biggest smile.
"Welcome, dear. What can I get for you today? It's on the house!"
Mr Lentz wore the same outfit every day: a white apron with a chef hat, black kitchen pants, a white chef shirt, and black leather shoes. He knew very well of this day. When Mary was little, her mom would bring her every year to the main street to buy some baked goods, a yummy drink, and a couple of gifts for her daughter. Kathryn wanted to give her a bit of joy, even on the saddest day for her little girl. Mary always acted brave & tough even at that age, but Kathryn worried about her & didn't know what to do. She herself also needed a break from that day too. Mary wondered why her mom would do so much to pretend nothing happened. When she was seven, exactly two years after her father left, she asked.
"Mom, why do you want to do all of this? don't you miss dad?"
"Dear, I miss your father as much as you do. We both could do with a distraction for a bit, where we can just go out and have fun for a little while, without thinking about it all. Here, I bought a new menu item from Mr Lentz today, chocolate croissants!"
Mary used to smile all of the time until it happened. As hard as her mom tried to bring her joy, she could never smile on June 11th, but she could forget for a little while.
"I'll take four chocolate croissants, but please let me pay this time."
Mr Lentz chuckled with his hands on his belly. he was a plump man. He had such a sweet tooth that he couldn't help himself. Old age hasn't helped either, but it didn't particularly bother him.
"I'll do no such thing, dear. here, this batch just came out of the oven. Take this with you, too. I made it especially for you today."
He passed Mary a big paper bag nearly the size of his belly. He'd thrown the chocolate croissants on top of everything he'd packaged in advance. He knew she'd come in today. Mary has as big of a sweet tooth as him.
"Mr Lentz, thank you. I can't take all of this stuff for free, though. I'm not a charity case."
"Well, I don't see a till out here, do you?"
Mary realized he'd even moved the till into a different room. This wasn't the first time they'd danced like this.
"You went that far this time? Here, take this then-"
"Oops! I forgot I have the rest of those chocolate croissants still in the oven! I'll see you later, dear!"
"Hey! No fair!"
Mary huffs slightly while she pouts. After she sulks for a few seconds, she smiles and manages to thank him on her way out of the door, but she leaves cash on the counter for him either way. She feels guilty being gifted so much stuff without giving anything back.
Mary gets in her Oldsmobile, black and sleak, and drives off to the countryside backroads.
When she was sixteen, she got her permit & started to learn how cars work. She'd always wanted to drive. She yearned for the freedom to go wherever she wanted and to be by herself while blasting music as loud as she wanted. when she was eighteen, she was given the car by her mother, who said her father had left it for her. It was from the 80s & didn't have a working stereo, so she'd set up Bluetooth ones in it herself. She added a few little details to the car like the red colored lights at the bottom of the inside and outside of the car, changed the inside material of the roof to a red and black floral design, and added a couple of trinkets to hang from the inside mirror. She looked after it like it was her own child.
She's put on her favorite playlist that ranged from happy driving music to heartache at its finest. Her love for music started when she was younger, and she loves to sing, but not in front of anyone. As she drives through forests that surround and protect her from everything around her, she sings and sings and sings until her throat gets sore. This is her escape.
After driving for a couple of hours, she stops at a cliff with a beach below it, rolls down the windows & grabs the snack bag Mr Lentz gave her. He'd stuffed it with strawberry parfait, macaroons, cookies, chocolate donuts, and even a small cake. Mary takes the chocolate croissants she'd ordered first and begins to scarf them down. They taste so good she tears up a little bit & lets out a sigh.
"Dad, where are you right now?"
