Layla's POV Now that I was all alone, the corridor was silent now but my instincts screamed otherwise. Every dark place in the corridor felt like it shifted when I wasn’t looking. The sound of my own footsteps scared the s**t out of me, it was like whispers that crawled up my spine. Harald had returned to guard Sophia, leaving me alone. I hesitated for only a heartbeat before moving forward. “This is reckless,” I murmured, pressing my palm against the cold stone wall. “But if he’s here… if the rogue has been watching… I need to know.” I said to myself. And I need to find Jaxon as well. My bare feet made almost no sound on the marble floor. I crouched every few steps, listening and straining my senses. The claw marks along the walls were faint, but they guided me like breadcrumbs.
