Chapter 14 Business Meeting

Avery's POV

After a very invigorating night of playful fun between the sheets with my new mind-blowing man.. following the best intelligent connection that I have ever endured that I know of, of course, with talking about anything and everything.

Elijah is now driving me to my work so I can get this business meeting with my partners underway. I look remotely professional in my new outfit so I feel a little confident.. but because I don't exactly know what this meeting is about, completely puts me on edge.. I hate having to wait for something like this that's obviously a big deal.. I just don't know how to mentally prepare myself for something that I have no idea what's going on, because I can't remember.

I feel his hand weigh down on top of mine that's laying on my leg. "Avery don't stress yourself out, everything will be fine." He says sweetly as I let out a deep breathe. "How did you know I was worried?" I ask him as he scoffs at that question. "I can tell by the way you're sitting.. it's tensed.." He states as if it's just obvious and maybe it is.

"I just don't know what I'm doing at my job and they need me to work but I don't want to anymore.. So how do I tell them that I will be looking into selling my portion of the company? How do I discuss business with them when I can't remember how to do my job? I just feel.. useless, I guess is the best word for this.." I explain as he nods and squeezing my hand tight in understanding.

We pull up to my work building as he clears his throat to grab my attention. I look over at him while he reassures as best as he can. "You will be fine because you have Stevie to help and they already know about your memory loss so I don't imagine they will be going into depth about your work.. they probably just want to discuss how your feeling and where to go from here.. But since they never visited you or even checked up on you, than this could have been easily solved with one visit. But it's fine we won't get into that.. Just keep your head up and don't over think things.. did you want me to stay for when you get out?.. I have today off too.." He sweetly suggests as I shake my head.

"No I don't want you to wait here because I don't know how long all this will take but thank you." I say leaning over the middle console to give him a light kiss to the cheek.

"Ok well I'm just running to the store really fast but other than the grocery shopping I will be home.. call me if you need me." He states as I smile and nod, letting out a deeper than expected breath before getting out of the vehicle. I wave at him then turn around to gain all the little confidence I have right now before I chicken out. I walk up to the front door for it to get opened by the doorman. "Mrs.Swan." He says to me as I send a small smile his way. "Thank you." I walk through remembering the way I came before. I smile and wave at the people who's eyes are glued to my frame.. they look shocked by my actions but instead of staring at me like I'm crazy, they actually smile back.. this is nice at least I don't feel so weird and strange this time around.

Of course right as I get to the elevator the man instantly greets me. "Mrs.Swan, lovely to see you again.. I'll press for your floor." I nod as I step into the elevator. "Thank you so much I appreciate it."

I look at him through my peripherals to see he is smirking before replying, "Not a problem whatsoever ma'am." It's nice that things don't seem as awkward this time around, at least for now.. but we will see once I get to my floor.. That's the deciding factor for this moment.

The elevator dings as I watch the doors open, so stepping out to see most of the people still looking terrified.. I don't know what I did to scare this many people, but at that idea alone makes me sad. I see Stevie coming to my side instantly.

"Hey, nice to see you." She says as I smile and state, "Yea thanks for calling me and letting me know about all this." My gaze trails around the room as I walk down the walkway to my room.. But before I get there I see my Ex-husband talking with a couple people.. A man and woman.. They all look irritated.

I think Stevie sees me looking at them as she whispers to clarify for me, "He came here just a little bit ago to talk to his friends who are your partners." I nod as I hand her the wad of papers. "Please make this divorce finalized as soon as possible.. I don't want anything to do with him.. Can you please put my house up for sale and also please look for a vehicle for me.. please and thank you." I state to her as she nods responding, "Of course Mrs.Swan."

I shake my head responding, "You can call me Avery.. Thank you Stevie." She looks slightly shocked by my statement but that seems to be everyone the past couple days.. "Thanks, Avery.. I'll get everything taken care of for you.. do you need me to look for a new place for you as well while I'm at it?" She asks as I shake my head,

smirking to myself as I state, "I like where I'm at for the moment.. but if that changes I'll be sure to let you know.. let's just hope that day never comes."

"Oh that good huh?" She asks curiously, causing my face to heat up in embaressment. I just nod not answering outloud, but she doesn't mind because my head gesture is good enough for her. "Well I guess I really have to get this divorce finalized don't I?" She playfully states as I nod more causing her to giggle before she adds. "Right on it boss.. good luck in there and let me know if you need anything."

She pats my back before turning and walking away leaving me to go into the unknown.. by myself.. great.. but I really can't complain because she is going to really help me out, I'm just even more nervous, feeling so alone right now.

"Avery! It's good to see you." The woman says as my ex-husband passes by me glaring the entire time. I just roll my eyes at him as I wave at my two partners. The three of us walk towards my office just entering one by one.

Once the door shuts behind us the man is the first one to state, "Really Avery, you look great.. so glad to hear you're out of the hospital."

"Yea me too.. but I have to say it's hard for me to believe that you care about my well-being when neither one of you came in to even see me once at the hospital." I state nonchalantly to them as I walk to my desk sitting down at my chair.

They both look so nervous as if they don't know what to say.. I watch their eyes look back and forth between each other, I think trying to figure out what to say.. but all they can both come up with is a stuttering. "Um... yea.."......."Things were so crazy busy here..."..... "and just couldn't get away."

I roll my eyes knowing automatically that they are lying to me because I'm not a complete i***t. "Couldn't.. or wouldn't?" I ask staring at them coldly, as they really start to fidget under the pressure my cold eyes are sending.. They're looking like they guilty and for myself they kind of are.

"So tell me why we are having this meeting?" I ask them not wanting their fake answers about how concerned they have been.. I just want to get this meeting done with.

"We wanted to check up with you, because we heard you were back." The woman says as I roll my eyes, "Yea you found that out after trying to take over my shares.. NOT because you had any actual interest in my health." I spat back just wanting to get to the actually root of this conversation.

"Ok we are sorry but things really have been busy... but we didn't find out about you until we came in to make sure your shares were taken care of, that's all.. not like we were trying to steal them or anything.. we would have bought them from you." The man explains as I groan out asking, "I bet you would have bought them for a really cheap price.. but luckily I can speak for myself and I have no interest in selling them to you two.. So if that is all, then you may leave." I state to them as they start to leave slower than ever.

Until the woman turns around and staring at me as if she wants to say something so I just wait for her to ask whatever is on her mind.

"So.. your assistant mentioned to us that you don't have any of your memory back.. is that true?"

I stare at her for a moment because I don't trust these two.. there is something deep inside of me telling me not to trust them.. so I question if I should ever say anything to them about me. But what harm could it do.. "I didn't have a memory at all when I first woke up.. but I have been getting flashbacks here and there. But dont worry I will still make sure my job is taken care of.." I explain as they both look between each other for a second, turning to leave again before the man quickly asks. "So we never found out what put you into the hospital in the first place.. the only reason we even found out was because your husband made sure to tell us." He says as I roll my eyes again showing my annoyance with that inquiry. "EX-husband.. and I don't know the details, nor have I gone out to find out all the details. I just heard there was a lot of alcohol in my system.. and that I took a turn too hard getting into a car wreck." I explain further as they both nod at me before saying. "Have a good day.. thank you for your time.. We will talk to you later.. Oh and please call us if you need anything."

I put my hand to my forehead saluting them as I observe the both of them leaving my office. But in an instant Stevie is coming into my office and shutting the door behind us.

"So are you alright? Everything ok." She asks with a panic but curiosity in her voice. I shrug my shoulders at her. "They tried to play pretend like they were concerned about me and my well being.. so then I called them out on their s**t and they didn't even deny it.. But there is something about them that I can't put my finger on.. I just don't have a good feeling when they are around... kinda like my ex.. I get the same feeling when he is around.. oddly enough. I don't ever know what these feelings mean and it's honestly frustrating.. I wish I just could remember everything, but I just can't seem to remember, no matter how hard I try.. But I did get another memory back and I found out that I did demand my ex and I to stay in separate rooms until I could get the divorce I wanted because I found him cheating.. so he lied to me about our relationship and even my neighbor lied to me trying to take advantage of the amnesia situation.. this has sucked.." I spill all of my stresses to her, feeling exhausted just thinking about it.

"I'm sorry you're going through this.. I don't know what your memories are of course, but I can tell you that the reason you're getting the bad feelings, when your around them is because the three of you have never seen eye to eye about the company.. but have somehow seemed to work together.. They are the reason you even started dating your Ex because he is their friend.. So maybe that has something to do with it but who really knows.. I already have all of your requests processed and just awaiting results so I will keep you updated hun.. You can go back to your place.. or should I say, your man's place and relax." She states to me as I nod at her, but quickly making my way around the desk to give her a hug. "Thanks for all that you do Stevie.. so when do you get to meet your new baby?!" I ask her as she smiles so big bouncing in my arms as she replies with such excitement, "We get to see her in a couple days to meet her, then we will finalize everything after.. they want us to meet her before we adopt but I don't care I just want her here.. I won't judge her at all! Every kid needs love and I'm here to give it!"

I smile bigger than ever at her loving excitement.. "I'm so happy for you! Have you had to pay everything yet or when you get the child?" I ask her as she huffs, "We have to pay the day before we get her.. we sign all the papers and everything that same time! So almost completely official!" She continues to bounce on her toes, clapping as she bounces out of my office saying, "Get yourself some rest Avery and I'll keep you updated about everything!" I chuckle at that sight as I grab my things and make my way out of my office calling Elijah to let him know I'm done, so he makes his way over to pick me up, to spend another day together.
