Chapter 15 Paying For It

Elijah's POV

I quickly get to Avery's work to pick her up. Not quickly like I'm scared of her reaction if I don't get there fast enough.. but just quickly because I suprisingly missed her.. I know it wasn't that long so this might seem silly, but I haven't had anyone around that I care for like this.. and I just feel a little bit, like I want to be around her all the time.. I don't know why I'm feeling like this, because I normally don't want to be around anyone for too long of a time.. For example when I'm at work I just get there to work and get everything I need done and then when I can leave I do so as soon as I can, because I don't want to be around my coworkers or patients longer than I have to.. but for the past month I stayed longer than normally for any of my shifts and even came in on my days off to spend almost full afternoons there.. My mind doesn't exactly know why, but my heart is just telling me to do it, so I'm just going along for the ride hoping I'm not stupid for doing this.. Because I'm getting more attached by the minute.

I watch her make eye contact with me as a huge ear to ear grin appears across her face.. she prances over to the car and quickly getting in.

"Hey beautiful.. hope everything went alright." I say to her as she quickly leans in kissing my cheek completely catching me offguard before she responds, "I think so.. I kinda just put them in their places for acting concerned about me but obviously not meaning it because of their lack of precence when I needed them most.. and then trying to take advantage of my absence to gain what they want from me.. but I didn't know this for sure until Stevie confirmed it.. Also, both of my partners are friends with my Ex so he was here talking with them.. but I told Stevie to make sure to get that divorce finalized ASAP, to also put my house on the market for me and to please keep an eye out for a car.. So hopefully I won't have to deal with my Ex too much longer at all.. and I will have a car so you won't have to take me around the whole time.. because I don't want to take advantage of you by any means or even be a burden." She explains as I nod in understanding.

"I'm glad you put them in their place because they need to know that just because you don't have all your memories back, that they can't take advantage of your vulnerable state.. Hopefully we can just get rid of all this Ex stuff putting it behind the both of us.. Oh and Avery you're not a burden at all.. yet.." I say humorously as she playfully slaps my arm. I pull out driving away from the building as she asks. "Hey Eli.. do you know where the adoption agency would be?"

That's not the question I was expecting at all. "Um.. I'm pretty sure it's in a government building that's over around the hospital.. why?" I ask her curiously.. is she planning on adopting or something?

"Um, well I just really want to do something nice for Stevie, for her being so loyal to me and helping me out so much when most didn't.. and she is getting ready to adopt because she can't have kids of her own.. so I wanted to pay for everything with the adoption for her.. she was telling me how she is able to save everything up but that she doesn't have much money after and I just want to make sure her and her family have everything they need.. especially since I have the money to spare and it's just me.. and you now.." She says shyly as I smile big.

"That's really generous of you.. are you sure? because that's a big expense." I clarify making sure she knows what she is getting into, she just nods vigorously in understanding. "Ok then I'll take you there now.." I state as she smiles even bigger at me. "Thanks Eli."

I make sure to turn us around and head the other way because I'm pretty sure I know where it's at.

After driving for just a moment we get there. "Ok I'm pretty sure it's in that building right there in front of us." I explain. pointing over for her so she smiles, then quickly getting out of the vehicle to prance her way into the building.

I'm in shock and awe at this point.. that is completely astonishing that she would be willing to do all of that for her assistant just to help her out... no matter what she thinks about herself, it's the moments like this that will really shape the opinion I have of her.. She might think she is a bad person but this right here shows she is not, no matter what she, nor anyone else thinks.

I wait there patiently for a little bit, just listening to music and hanging out. Until I hear the car door open abruptly, gaining my attention. I look over to see an Avery with the biggest brightest smile apparent upon her face.. Absolutely stunning in every sense of the word.

"Thanks for showing me where this was at, and of course taking me here.." She states as I smile and nod.

"Of course did you take care of everything you wanted?" I ask as she vigorously nods her head, showing her bright white smile to me contagiously making mine bigger before I add. "Good I'm glad to hear it."

We stare at each other for a comfortable long moment which to me never seems long enough.. but of course we are taken out of our mesmerizing gaze by her phone ringing loudly. She doesn't break eye contact with me just picking up her phone to answer the call. "Hello?......Hey Stevie..... Wow, you got a lot done in such a short span of time.. thank you, you're amazing! Thank you for everything. Hope you have a great rest of your day........ Wait, what? When?....... Ok.. are you sure it was them and that's what they said?" She asks as I watch her eyebrows furrow before she looks away from me to my dismay. "Ok thanks Stevie.. I'll be sure to be careful I swear.. besides I have Elijah here with me anyways." She states glancing back at me once again.

She humms in response before chuckling at something Stevie said. "Well that's weird I don't know what you're talking about.." She states as she starts to shake her head. "No no no, I'm just kidding Stevie.. I did make that purchase... No. um.. I didn't buy a car.. I still need one.." She sits there bitting her lip looking nervous.. I would like to think I can be a smart cookie sometimes, so I'm just going to put two and two together.. I think Stevie is questioning her huge purchase she just made.

"Dammit Stevie I didn't want you to find out just yet but.. ugh.. you have been nothing short of amazing to me since I have been back... and I wanted to do something nice to show how much I appriciate you and all that you do for me.. so I paid all your adoption fees.. you just have to pick up your baby girl and sign the legal forms of course.. that's it." she explains to her as you just hear the voice get louder on the phone almost sounding as if she is mad or maybe lecturing her.

"Well too bad I already did it." She states making sure she knows that decision is final, before laughing then replying, "You're welcome, I'll talk to you later and keep me updated about everything please and thank you." She hangs up the phone letting out a deep sigh of relief.

"She caught you huh?!" I ask nonchalantly making her giggle softly. "Yea that's the biggest problem with buying the girl who handles my personal finances an expensive gift.. she finds out pretty quickly thinking it's fraud because it was a bigger amount then she expects me to spend apparently.. but she said she got her husband who is a judge to approve the divorce papers so I'm officially single thank goodness! Her sister is a real estate agent and she got her to put my house on the market as well and she said she has a vehicle that use to be the same type as my old one, and it's on the way to my work so she can check it out I guess.. Thankfully I have her because she has done nothing but help me out.. Well, she did mention something else." She says vaugly, gaining all of my attention, as I stare at her awaiting what else was said.

"She said after I talked with my partners they started to walk away and got to the elevators, waiting for it to come to their floor, while they really got into an intense conversation, going back and forth between each other. So when she got close enough so she could hear them saying that, 'we need to take care of this.. because she will remember soon enough.' but when she tried to hear more they saw her and stopped talking instantly, then getting into the elevator to leave.. So she is telling me to be careful because she didn't like how intense the conversation looked.. Especially since she didn't know what they were talking about, but that it was obviously about me since I'm the only one here who will soon remember something.. she said it could be about anything really though and doesn't want to freak me out." She finishes, swallowing a nervous lump in her throat staring over at me with those big doe eyes of hers. I think gaging my reaction.

"It's ok you're with me just in case, but hopefully that conversation meant nothing.. Thankfully we are at least aware now, so you can just make sure to watch what you do around them, being cautious just in case." I just try to reassure her causing her to nod as she let's out another deep breath. "Thanks Eli, now that we have all that out of the way, how about I take you out to a late lunch? I'm starving." She suggests as I smile again then nodding letting her know I'm game for anything with this girl.
