The Captain
DAWN AND I HAVE FETCHED UP deep inside the forest and the road has run out on us. We still have Bijou’s historical track to follow but we’ll have to do it on foot. First of all we find somewhere to stow the Land Rover.
Bijou’s trail stops about a mile ahead of us and I wonder how Sukey will have been able to keep up with an adult man on rough terrain for such a distance. They clearly followed the stream that flows past the end of the road.
“Captain,” Dawn whispers to me. “Let’s have a scout around before we carry on and see if we can find their vehicle. It’ll confirm that they’ve gone the same way as Bijou and that he hasn’t got lost and wandered off on his own.”
“And we can call the number in and find out who it belongs to.”
