Peace to the Storm

Nothing was wrong or moved but I received this package on my door: "Care package, free sample." It had the cutest things: a few candles, a bear and a dove which I placed on the floating rack. It was perfect, I didn't even need to buy a replacement cup. I did look at the card on it, it was from some corporate gifting company. "Do you still have the card?" "Of course, it's in my kitchen cupboard at the top right door near the fridge. I only place fridge magnets on the door for my weekly to-do list." "What's on the list?" "Days at campus, working schedule from Mister O'Lyne, any type of doctor's appointments, date nights." She immediately interjected "Date nights?" I smiled and told her "I met Fyler right around the time I got my new car, he actually helped me pick it out." "He is a salesman?" "No, he was picking out a car for himself too. We looked at prices together and he explained a few things after I told him about what had happened, we picked a safe, cute car." "Were you two dating since the car incident?" "We have kept in contact since July." "Where is he?" "I'd love to know. He was the person I tried to call before coming in here." "What's his number? I'll have Officer Harris try and call him." I gave her his number immediately and she went out, called the Officer and came back in. "I'm sure we will get a hold of him soon. Perhaps he can help post bail." "I can post it myself." "If it's all the same with you, I don't think you should be riding after having been here. You seem a little tense, can a policeman escort you or should Fyler?" She made sense and I agreed to whichever was available. As Officer Mason sat down again, we continued our conversation "Tell me about Flyer." She wrote his name down on the page and looked at me, her finger curved on her jaw… I went to work after having a morning on campus so it was relatively late by my standards, you won't necessarily find me on the road after 9 if I can help it. I had to work late that evening as new books arrived and I had to catalogue them. I didn't mind as I had a lot on my mind. After the cataloguing was done, Mister O'Lyne had gone up and closed his door to the upper apartment. I double checked everything just before I left. Same routine as always only later. I got to my car, The Black Swan was not busy that night. I got into the car, straightened up at first, took off my jacket so I'd feel less restricted but kept it over me as the belt tends to make scratches on my neck. She looked at me and asked "Didn't you ever think to change the position of the seatbelt or buy the soft padding to avoid irritating your neck?" "It was an old car, every time I fixed it, somehow it just went back into that position." As I was driving, it was a quiet night and I didn't bother to switch on the radio but I noticed a car following me. It turned away just as Officer Mason sounded his siren and as I tried to stop, the car just sped up. I don't drive more than 30km/h at night in our neighbourhood as kids tend to walk about up until 10pm and also we have a rule and limit for safety setup just for them." She opened up my file only then and I waited for her to say something. "According to the dashboard monitor you were going 60km/h, Officer Harris said you were resisting and he signalled for you to pull over." Again, the annoyance of these incompetent people who refuse to listen in my frustration I responded "Officer Harris sounded his horn and the more I tried to stop, it wouldn't, I tried to move my steering wheel and it felt locked. I know I was driving slow but it felt pretty fast to me." She nodded and asked "May I have the invoice you received from Charlie's motor's?" "Of course it's in my home." She thought for a moment "Let me call them and ask for a copy instead, if that's alright with you?" I nodded once again, she left the room for a while and I felt exhausted already. How long have I been here and how long are they keeping me? It felt like forever but she did get the copy from Charlie's Motors she looked through it, I'm sure whatever she was looking for must have been there as she placed it into the brown folder. "I still have a few questions, I know it's been draining but if you could bear with me a little longer?" She offered me a bottle of water which I would have drank but she had to uncuff me first. Sweet relief, a cool drink after an endless day. I managed to finish the bottle and placed it back onto the table "Thank you." A short moment after that Officer Harris walked in with papers "Here's the paperwork you requested." She smiled and took them, each page she looked through briefly before signing them and then gave it to me. "These documents, feel free to go through them now or later state that you are giving me permission to attain further documents on your behalf specifically just to what you have told me, I prefer having it in writing." I couldn't help but wonder and just like that the words came out of my mouth "I'm sorry but wouldn't you need a subpoena? I doubt having my permission helps, especially if somehow we managed to find ourselves in court and the topic of how you managed to ascertain these came up." She replied "I'll have a subpoena by tomorrow morning." I didn't really care, she could do as she wished. I took her pen and signed the document on every page, dated it and gave it back. "Would you like a lawyer, Miss Watts?" I shook my head no "I just want to go home." I was rubbing my hands again and my back was aching from the awful posture I'd been in with this ugly chair. Our conversation started up again. "We left off on the stop from Officer Harris." My eyebrows went up and I drifted off into the memory of it. Officer Harris came up to my window and knocked so hard it startled me, I was struggling to open the door most likely from panic or fear, at this point I was sure. I got out of the car, quite upset and I told Officer Harris "The car wouldn't stop, I tried." "Have you been drinking ma'am?" "No." I could not help but cry that night, most of it was a blur and I agreed to everything he had asked me including a blood test as his breathalyser was not giving him a proper reading. We ended up here in the station, my hands were cuffed just as they are now except they were at the back. I was charged with negligent driving. "Was this before or after Charlie's motor invoice?" I sighed, "I only received the invoice about two weeks after the incident and by then I had already had my first record." I was shaken up because they locked me in a cell that night. I didn't speak to anyone or call anyone because nobody came to mind. In the morning Officer Harris came with paperwork for me to sign. I had to sign for a few things, pay a fine and retrieve my keys, cell phone and my bag. I called a cab to take me home as I didn't have my car. When I got home, the first thing I could think of was to wash the day off. I didn't leave the house for three days. I had no choice on the third as I had work and also school, I informed them of my accident and all incidents that took place and I was given an extension for my thesis.
