SIMULA
Suot ang mahabang gown, bumaba ako sa sinansakyang limousine. Inalalayan ako pababa ng papa at iniakay ang aking kamay sa kaniyang kanang braso. Media flocked to us like some moth in a flame. Flashes of light went in our direction at mabilis na kumilos ang mga bodyguards para hindi makalapit sa amin ang mga ito. The media were throwing questions and dad just smiled at them. Not bothering to answer their queries.
“Miss, you have a pretty gown. Who’s the designer?”
“Miss Devino, are you staying permanently in the Philippines?”
“Miss Devino is it true that you got pregnant that’s why you went abroad?”
Mabilis akong napalingon sa huling nagtanong. I raise my eyebrow at the man who looked pleased to see my reaction. I rolled my eyes at him and continued walking. I heared him scoffed. Well, issues like those should stop. Why would they think I got pregnant? For goodness sake, I was studying abroad.
I was on my train of thoughts when we enter the huge ballroom. The atmosphere was very classic and the guest dressed really well like how they scream their wealth. Father guided me to a group of men who has the same age as him. I could recognize some, and others were unfamiliar. I know for sure those are his business associates but I could not care less. I am not interested in business.
“Signor Devino, nice to see you. I see you have a beautiful date for tonight!” Inabot ni papa ang nakipagkamay. The man looked at me intently and even though I don’t know him, he also extend his hands for a shake.
“She’s Analiese, my daughter. And quit ogling at her you old skank!” Mabilis na tumawa ang lalaki. “You never change Devino. Still grumpy!”
The men laughed and chatted after a while. After I was introduced, I was not able to participate in their conversation. They were talking about business and I never really liked those kind of topic so I excused myself and went to the get some fresh air. People greeted me as I passed them and although I have been receiving these attention since young, I still could not get used to it.
My father, Angeles Devino is a shipping mogul, that’s what people call him. Our family were descendants of old wealth from Spanish origin. I am the only daughter and the youngest of the family. My three brothers were now working on their own. And I’m still stucked in the care of my father like Im some kind of a 5 year old kid who cannot go on to the world. I was sheltered all my life and the only chance I had to be free was during my college years where I got to study abroad. But still heavily guarded. I sighed and sipped on the champagne I took.
I was busy looking at the people when I sense a silhouette of a man approaching my direction. I am near the windows with huge curtains hanging and this area is secluded. May mangilan-ngilang waiters and dumadaan peron hindi naman masyadong malayo okay papa. I looked at the man and saw him looking intently at him. Damn, he’s handsome. Those straight thin lips looked red from the wine he was holding. His nose were proud and high, and his eyes were stern looking. Those black orbs seems to glimmer with danger. My brain was telling me that this man is danger, but my eyes couldn’t leave his face. His jaw clenched as he goes nearer to me, his shoes bumped my stilettoes and now I realized how close he came to me.
“Why is such beauty hiding in the dark hmm?” I gasped at his deep voice. I tried to find my sanity but he’s just too close my mind is in chaos. I faked a smile and back off a little. His domineering stance followed when I step back. I immediately put my hands in front to prevent him from getting close but he is persistent!
“Back off, please”. I softly demanded. I shut my eyes and silently cursed my self for acting so meek at him. Heck I don’t even know this man. He did not listen and instead he captured my hands with his free arm and leaned his face forward. I gulped hard as I lowered my face, avoiding his gaze. I just can’t phatom why Im so submissive over this man I barely know.
“I said back off! I don’t know you and please put distance between”. I muttered at him. He was quite but I can hear his heavy breathing fanning near my neck. I finally found courage and looked at him directly. He smirked and softly loosen his grip on me. I shivered at how he touched my hands and I can see his satisfaction.
“I didn’t know you were this shy?” I glared at him and he just chuckle.
“I don’t know you and you keep advancing over me. Excuse me”. I tried to move away but he blocked me again. I looked at him angrily but the brute just smirked. Ugh! I wanna wipe that annoying smirk.
“Look, I really don’t know you sir. Let me go or I’ll scream”. I threaten him.
“Scream if you want”
I was about to scream when suddenly the lights went out. Nagkagulo ang buong ballroom and people were running towards the exit. Some were shouting fire and It just made the situation worst. I tried to move para hanapin ang phone ko but someone held my hands me tight. My mind was on panic and my heart were beating fast. I squirmed to break free and shouted help but the brute was too strong for me. All of the sudden may panyo na tumakip sa ilong ko. My eyes flutter at the strong smell of chemical, my hands were dropping and my body felt heavy. A strong hands prevented my fall and the last thing I heared was my father shouting my name.
