Underneath the Fireworks Display

Sky's POV.

The sweet aroma of flowers around keeps me in such a good mood. The perfect shape of moon and the twinkling stars that are shining above the night sky puts a smile on my face. I swear, this is the best 20th birthday celebration I could ever have. I'm so glad that mom and dad agree to celebrate my birthday here in our garden.

"Sky Valdez" a familiar voice echoed through my ears. When I turn around, I saw a young lady coming into my direction and give me a tight hug

"Ahh" I said, confused but still let out a smile

"It's me, Cheska!!!" she said and widely open her arms asking for another hug

"Cheska? As in Cheska Monteclara!?" I said in disbelief. It's been so long since we've seen each other, she looks prettier than before

"Yes b***h! It's me!!" she said and give me a grin

"Cheska!!! Ohmygod! It's really you" I said and jump towards her to give her a tight hug

"Finally! You have arrived!" I added

"You must be glad that you were able to celebrate your birthday now in the garden. It's been your dream, isn't it?" she said

"Yes, I am. Oh before I forgot, Nicole have already arrived. Come on, I'll show you where she is" I said grabbing her hand

"Wait, wait, wait. Are you sure about this?" she said, hesitant to see her best friend

"Girl, I'm pretty sure okay. I invited the two of you so that you talk and work things out. Don't waste this opportunity, please" I said which she responded with a nod

After a few walks, we arrived at the area where I greeted Nicole with her friends

"Hey Sky, looking for someone?" a familiar voice said

"Oh, Eaverly, this is Cheska, a friend of Nicole" I said pointing at Cheska

"Pleasure to meet you. I'm Dawn, Dawn Eaverly Raught" Eaverly said as she reaches out her hand for a handshake which was accepted by Cheska

"Nicole is with Awi, they said they will be at the pool to look for some boys" she added rolling her eyes.

"Thanks, Eaverly, we'll be on our way then" I said giving her a smile

"Wait Sky, I'm not really sure about it. And what if she's still having fun, I don't want to ruin it" Cheska said with a hint of worry in her voice

"Basing from your actions, you must be the famous ex bestfriend of Nicole" Eaverly said which made Cheska speechless

How did she know about it? Did Nicole tell her about Cheska? How many information did Nicole say to Eaverly before she invited this girl in my party? I mean, even until now, I still don't know why Cheska and Nicole were no longer friends. Did Nicole tell her the reason why?

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry. It's just that Nicole was able to convince me to come here when she said she needed some company in case she see her ex best friend around. You should go and talk to her. I mean, she might not be sober enough to hear you if you don't do it now" she added giving us an apologetic smile and return her focus in the macaroons she's eating

"Where did you get that?" I asked

"What?" she asked, confused then look at the macaroons in her hand "Oh you mean these macaroons? It's on the table behind us. I hope you don't mind that I'm eating some of these" she added

"Fine! Asking Nicole to be my friend again operation: on. Come on, Sky, let's look for her" Cheska said with full of determination

"Ah, I think you should go alone. You're an adult, right? I'm pretty sure, you can handle yourself" I said still fixing my eyes at the macaroons

"What!? Are you crazy? I can't do this thing alone. You told me we'll talk to her together" Cheska said, upset

"I know, I'm sorry it's just that it's between you two and meddling might just trigger her more. Plus, that was before I found the kind of macaroons I'm craving for" I explained

"You can eat macaroons as many as you want after we talk to Nicole" she uttered

"No way, Eaverly might finish all of them" I said, grabbing some macaroons at the table

"Ugh! You and your food!" Cheska said and walk out

"Cheers" Eaverly said after offering me a glass of champagne

"Cheers" I said and clink our glasses

Awi's POV.

"You okay out there?" Nicole asked as she took a sip of champagne, she have in her hand

"You didn't say that you're popular. Even the girls are roaming their eyes on you" I said teasing her

"But I don't blame them though, you look stunning in that purple dress of yours" I added and took a sip of champagne I'm holding

"Oh, please don't even let me start. Those kinds of girls are the one I hated the most" she said as she starts to drench her toes in the pool

"Come and sit with me" she added, tapping the area beside her

"So, tell me, what kind of people do you like?" I asked as I took a sit beside her

"Oh, I like someone who is kind and crazy enough to do crazy stuffs with me" she said staring straightly into my eyes

For a minute out there, I thought my heart would jump out from my body. We stared at each other trying to read each other's thoughts until...

"Hey cutie, what are you doing out here?" a pretty young lady said. It's obvious she's trying to flirt with Nicole

"Just chilling" Nicole said in her gentle voice. Seriously? Why does she even need to answer her!?

"How about we chill together?" the lady said, causing me to choke, thankfully, they didn't notice but I hope they did though

"Thank you, but I already have company" Nicole said, as she holds my hand. Did my heart just freaking skip a beat?

"Your friend can party with some boys out here. Just spare me some of your time, I promise it would be worth it" the lady said as she rubs her fingers in Nicole's arm

"I can't just leave my friend here alone" Nicole replied

"Why not? She's totally fine. It's not like she's still a baby" she said and whisper the last words in Nicole's ears but still enough for me to hear

If Nicole wasn't holding my hand, I'm sure this hand of mine already landed in her flirty face. Seeing her face just wanna make me slap her and drown her in the pool. Can't she understand a single word that Nicole is uttering.?

"I'm sorry, I really can't accompany you, tonight" Nicole said giving an apologetic smile

"Come on, it's not like she's your girlfriend" the lady said enough to run out my patience.

I turn Nicole's head to face mine and wrap my arms around her neck, letting my lips slowly touch hers. I kissed her passionately and she kissed me back. I open my eyes to look at the b***h behind us, giving her the sign to leave the f**k off which she did. Hahahahah b***h, I won! We continued to kiss underneath the lights of fireworks from above. Her soft cherry flavored lips make you addicted to it that you just don't want to stop.

When the fireworks display was done, I then realized what the hell did I just do. I quickly unwrap my arms from her neck and avoided her eyes.

"I'm sorry" I quickly uttered

The atmosphere around us became awkward and neither of us have the courage to say another word. Only the warm breeze covers the silence that we have.

"A...A...I...I just thought she would leave if I do that." I said stuttering in the beginning

"Hey, no need to say sorry. It's fine" she said letting out a smile.

"No, it's not fine okay! I kissed a girl that I didn't even like" I said without thinking. Even I was surprised to hear what I just said

"Wow" she said, dumbfounded because of the choice of words I have

"That came out wrong, I'm sorry" I said trying to take back the words I just said

"Yeah, it sure did. But you don't have to worry, it's fine. It's just a play between friends" she said avoiding my eyes

"What!?'' I said, sounding upset. Just what is wrong with me today

"Why? Isn't it just a play?"

"Yes, of course! It's just a play."

My heart suddenly feels so itchy and my feet feels like stepping on a bunch of scattered thorns.

"Nicole" a voice coming from a pretty lady grab Nicole's attention

"Cheska? What are you doing here?" Nicole replied as she stood up from her seat

"Sky invited me. Can we talk?" she said looking at Nicole then turn her attention in me

"Privately" she added

Nicole didn't even budge and just continue to stare at the pretty lady in front of us.

"I didn't know you got yourself a girlfriend" the lady said which made Nicole return from her thoughts

"Girlfriend?" she asked, confused

"Saw the two of you kissing when the fireworks were being displayed"

"No, it's a misunderstanding. We didn't kiss, we just act it out so that the lady standing there will stop bothering me" Nicole lied. Just why in the hell would she lie, but it's not like I want to admit either, or do I wan to?

"Awi, finally, I found you. Let's go home, my mom is already leaving me with a bunch of death notes" Dawn said as she sees me

"o...kay what happened here?" she added prolonging the word okay

"Yeah, I think we should go" I said, grabbing her hands

"Hey, Eaverly, let's drink some more" Sky said right after she arrived at our area

"She can't. We have to go home now, so toodles" I said, grabbing Dawn towards the exit

"Let's drink people!!!" Sky said turning her attention to Nicole and the pretty lady

"O...kay, why is it is so awkward in here?" her remaining voice echoed as Dawn and I headed towards the exit.
