The wall indention that hid me before from Dordo and his companion was situated nearly in the middle portion of the lane’s stretch. My eyes could picture from where I stood the end wall of the cul-de-sac— grim and foreboding. I had only now observed that the whole one lane dead street was lined with concrete walls on both sides giving the impression that the whole area was enclosed in an endless protective wall except for some indented spaces that served as openings for a gate or a driveway. I had my flashlight in my bag but refrained from using it for fear that I might accidentally arouse some attention. It was an obvious unnecessary precaution for I knew the whole place was deserted, and no sane mind would venture into a place blanketed with darkness, and on the surface devoid of life.
