My new life as a Demon

I barely remember my life before this. Seems like it was aeons ago. But, in fact, it’s merely a short year after I said goodbye to Earth. Maybe I’ll never see it again. Well, it’s not like I miss it. A shithole it was. Being born into a poor family sucks. Damn Silver spoon world. In comparison, this is much better. Being strong, or being eaten, at least, Darwin wouldn’t turn in his grave every second in comparison to my previous life. Yes, quite. I walked down the street. This place was called Lenom. A slightly bigger settlement with around two to three thousand people. At least that is how many I sensed with my auric sense. It was a semi-accurate estimation, but then again, I was never that good at math. Don’t get me started on my academics. A sigh escaped my lips. I wish I could rest a bit, turn off my overactive senses for a while. Constant vigilance. I smiled, never did I think that I’d be quoting a children’s book about magic, but well. Here I am. Honestly, I consider myself fortunate to read a lot in my previous body. At least I have something to think about, not to mention that some of what I read for pleasure in my childhood I can actually use now. Magic. Well, to be exact, demonic magic. My previous world would call it Chaos magic. A kind of magic that can do anything as long as you have enough energy. Qi, mana, prana, or simply energy is what fuels it. Sadly, normal humans are handicapped at birth as their bodies are simply not made to use the amounts necessary for more than a marginal outcome when using it. Luckily, my new demonic body is perfect for it, although my low amounts of mana are a bit limiting. I looked up from my thoughts at a simple wooden sign. Offering rooms. I nodded to myself. Not sleeping outside tonight. I entered the establishment. If I had to describe it, I’d say it looks like an Inn from medieval times. I stepped to the counter and leaned on it. "Coming!" Was yelled from somewhere in the back of the Inn. I looked up as a woman walked out from the back and came to stand behind the counter. She looked at me with half-lidded eyes. "Staying the night? That'll be five silver coins." I sighed at my money pouch as I counted the money on the counter. The woman nodded and took the silver while putting a simple iron key on the table. " Second room up the stairs, we like to sleep at night." I nodded at the hint and ignored her inquisitive look as I picked up the key and walked upstairs. As I sat on the bed which wasn't even a bit soft, I started thinking. I've been a vagabond for the past year. Makai was tough if you were alone. Yes, the demonic world was stuck in the dark ages. Beasts and all kinds of dark creatures were present everywhere. Even the lady that gave me the key probably had enough strength in her to split me in two. Sadly, I was reincarnated into a twenty or so-old demon, with a miserable amount of mana, therefore I wasn't able to do much. Changing this is what I've been looking for the past year. I've begun to realize that going at it alone won't do. I decided to look for a group, or a clan, so to speak. That is what big groups with a similar agenda are called here. And one of those clans had jurisdiction over multiple towns in an area about 100 miles wide. This town was theirs aswell. They were called the Laughing moon. I'm going to try joining them tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be able to join.
