Chapter 6

I woke up the next morning with a knock on the door. I look at the alarm clock. It’s already 10 am. This is the first time I slept late since I started working at Center stage dance studio. I put on a robe and made my way to the front door. “Good morning,” Dawn greets me while passing by me to the kitchen. “I brought coffee since you haven’t gone shopping yet,” I smiled and took the coffee from her. “Thank you” she smiled and placed donuts on the kitchen counter. “This is nice, I like it,” “yeah me too. It’s small, but it’s big enough for me.” She looked around and opened the curtains in the living room. The sun is sitting high already. “ok so where do you want to go first? I would suggest getting some nice curtains first and then some mugs and plates.” she scanned the place with her eyes. “Oh, and definitely some new pillows for this couch.” She picked up the pillow with 2 fingers and toss it aside. I just smiled and took a sip of my coffee. “Did you sleep ok alone?” She asks, sitting down by the counter. “I did actually,” “Good.” She’s trying to make small talk, and when she does that, she usually has something to tell me. “What?” she asked when I glared at her. “I know you, so out with it,” I said, taking a bite from the donut. “You sure you want to know?” “No, but it bothers you, so out with it.” “Ok, so Griffin asks me to represent the dance this year, and he wants you to do the last dance.” I snapped my head towards her. “Why? I’m not even a student at the dance school. I’m an instructor. They will never allow it.” “Exactly what I told him, but he said that this year he is the host and he can decide how it ends, besides I think it will be great, you doing the last show.” I looked down, picking at my nails. “I guess.” “Really? So you ok with it?” She asks surprised that I agreed to it. “Yeah, it could be fun.” Dawn clapped her hands together and smiled a big smile. “ok, you will have to jump in early to get the most beautiful solo and make some history,” I laughed at how silly she sounds and looks. “I will call Griffin and tell him you said yes, and we can go for lunch with,” she stops talking and glared at me. “You sure you ok with this? You don’t have to do this, seeing that you and Griffin.” I frowned at her before she could finish her sentence. “Sorry.” she apologized. “I know you ask not to talk about him, but you have to face it, it won’t go away by itself” I let out a big sigh. “I know, I just want the weekend and then I will return to reality” I took the last sip from my coffee and throw the empty cup in the dustbin. “Ok, I can live with that,” Dawn agrees. “Get dressed. The shops are waiting,” she said with a smile. The shops are packed. There is hardly any parking. We had to stop on the other side of the mall. Dawn keeps packing the trolley with unnecessary things and as we go down the aisle, I empty the trolley again. “This is nice, it will look pretty in your bedroom” she holds up a big painting of a woman looking at a tree with big buildings behind her. I frown at the painting and she rolls her eyes at me. “You have to have at least one painting in your apartment,” she says, but none of the paintings here are nice. She finally let it go, and we went to the pay point. I took out my card, but she refused for me to pay. “Dawn please, it’s my stuff. I will pay for it,” but she declined my offer and took out a silver card from her purse. I saw the initials on the Card. G Baker. Why would she use Griffin’s card to pay for my stuff? Better yet, why does she have his card? I kept quiet and smiled at the lady behind the till. “Do you want to grab some lunch?” I nodded, and we sat down at a small restaurant close to where we parked. I order a pizza and Dawn some steak and chips. Halfway through our lunch, I gathered some confidence and ask her why she paid for my stuff with Griffin’s card. “You’ve noticed?” She asks. “Yes,” and I took a sip from my milkshake. “He offered to pay, apparently to say sorry for the other night,” she admits. “I don’t want his pity,” “I know, but if the boss offers to pay, you don’t say no.” she smiled, and we finished our lunch in silence. “Thank you for helping me today,” I said to Dawn while I pack away the last coffee mug. She smiled and placed the frozen vegetables in the freezer. “You're welcome,” she said, coming in for a hug. “I will see you tomorrow and discuss everything, OK?” I nod and she left. I felt beyond tired. The shopping was nice, but going with Dawn is a whole new level. She will buy anything that looks beautiful despite the price. I cleaned the kitchen and made my way to the bedroom. I decided to take a shower tomorrow morning. I’m way too tired now to do that. I changed into pajamas and slip into bed.
