The Fierce Tiger: INTRO
JADE'S POV
I was tossing and turning on the king-size bed. The black sheets perfectly matched the room's tone, reflecting the owner's personality.
"Jade, get up from the bed," commanded the deep voice of the room's owner, who had just walked out of the bathroom.
"What? I just got here." I turned to look towards the bathroom, and my face started to blush because Tanner was only wearing a towel wrapped around his waist. His wet hair was dripping, and I couldn't help but wonder why he looked so good.
"Don't make me repeat myself, Jade."
I frowned at Tanner, the room's owner. When we were kids, Jared, Tanner, and I often played hide-and-seek in this room. From childhood to adulthood, I often went to play in Tanner's room.
Tanner treated me like a little sister, even though he knew how I felt about him.
But I won't give up. Someday, Tanner will like me. Just wait and see.
"You're grown up now, Jade. Don't do this. If someone sees you inside a boy's room, it won't look good."
"Complaining about me again."
"How many times have I told you not to sneak into my room like this? We're not kids anymore."
"In that case..." I sprang up from the bed and walked to stand in front of the tall person before continuing, "Tanner, be my boyfriend then."
Smack!
As soon as I finished speaking, Tanner lightly tapped my forehead.
"You're too forward for your age."
"I will be twenty soon, old enough to be your girlfriend."
"Stop talking and go downstairs. I need to get dressed."
"I'll wait so that we can go down together."
"Jade..." Hearing his deep voice calling my name, I immediately knew Tanner was scolding me.
"Alright, I'll wait downstairs."
My house and Tanner's house are next to each other, and our parents have been friends since their school days, making our families very close. Today, we planned to have a meal together, which is a regular occurrence for us.
My name is Jade. I'm in my second year of college and I have a twin named Jared, but Jared is studying abroad and only comes home occasionally.
"Got kicked out again, did you?" Leo, Tanner's younger brother, said when he saw me walking down the stairs with a frown.
"Tanner just asked me to wait downstairs. He didn't kick me out."
"You're a girl, Jade. Going into a guy's room like that doesn't look good. It's right that he sent you down."
"You're talking too much, Leo."
"Just give up already. If he was going to like you, he would have by now."
Leo is the same age as me, and we go to the same university. He often reminds me of this because, apart from Jared, Leo knows everything about me. We're very close.
"I'm hungry. I wonder what's on the menu today," I said, ignoring Leo's words and rubbing my stomach as I walked into the dining room to look for food.
"You always run away when you can't argue back."
Honestly, I'm not that hungry. I just don't want to talk about it. It's not that I don't know he doesn't love me, but my heart already loves him, so what can I do?
I'm not someone who likes to party or drink at all, but when I see Tanner going to a club, I want to go too. You could say I'm trying to block him. It hurts every time I see him with another woman.

Dining room at Tanner's house...
Today feels like a family day, gathering together for a meal, but the atmosphere seems strange, different from usual. The concerned expressions on my mom's and Tanner's mom's faces are clear.
"How old are you now, Jade?" Tanner's mom asked me.
"I'm twenty."
"You're fully grown now, so you can have a boyfriend."
"With that stubbornness, who would want you as a girlfriend?" Tanner interjected, making me pout.
I wanted to say, "Watch out, or you'll end up with me as your girlfriend," but I was afraid the adults would be shocked. In front of the elders, I have to be polite and well-mannered. Saying something like that as a woman wouldn't be appropriate.
"Alright, today I have something important to ask you," Tanner's father said, putting down his spoon before asking his two sons,
"Tanner, Leo, do you two have girlfriends?"
"No," both of them answered simultaneously, showing puzzled expressions because his father usually didn't ask about such things.
"And what about you, Jade? Do you have a boyfriend?"
"N-no, I don't have one."
"Hmm, in that case, I'd like you to choose."
"What?" I furrowed my brows. Everyone was silent, and no one said a word. "What do you want me to choose, uncle?"
"Who would you like to get engaged to? Tanner or Leo?"
"Dad!"
"Dad!"
Both Tanner and Leo exclaimed in shock, as did I, because I never expected to be asked something like this.
My mind went blank, not understanding what was happening. Why was uncle suddenly asking me to choose like this?
"Our two families have talked about wanting our kids to get engaged when they grow up."
"What era are we living in, Dad?" Tanner showed a clearly displeased expression.
"Choose, dear. I want you to choose for yourself," Mom said, turning to me, still shocked by the situation.
I looked between Leo and Tanner. Of course, if I had to choose, there was already a clear answer in my heart. And now, Tanner was shaking his head, subtly indicating not to choose him.
"Jade," my father's voice startled me, as he was quite strict.
Fear made me speak the answer that was in my heart.
"Tanner, I want to be engaged to you."
