CHAPTER 5

CHAPTER 5 RONAN'S POV I watched as we drove past my hotel, the city lights casting elongated shadows on the streets. My mind wandered back to the events of last night, lingering on the image of her. Just as we passed, I caught a fleeting glimpse of her silhouette in the lobby. My heart quickened, and my inner wolf, Shadow, stirred restlessly, his desire a persistent echo of the previous night's craving. "Damn it," I muttered under my breath, the frustration evident in my tone. My beta, Alex, turned slightly from the front seat, his expression a mix of exasperation and concern. "Don't you think it's a bit dishonest to have s*x with another woman when you are about to meet your betrothed?" he said, his voice carrying a hint of admonishment. I raised an eyebrow, confusion clouding my thoughts. "Huh?" I replied, genuinely clueless about the context of his reprimand. Alex sighed deeply, a sound filled with the weight of unspoken words and shared history. "Don't tell me you've forgotten already," he said, his tone edged with disbelief. He paused, waiting for my reaction, but continued when it became clear I had no idea what he was talking about. "You have to see the daughter of Alpha Marcus, the alpha of Silver Moon." The arranged meeting had been on my calendar for weeks, a political maneuver meant to solidify alliances and strengthen our packs. "Right," I said, rubbing my temples as if that would somehow help me piece together the fragments of my scattered thoughts. "I remember now." Alex's eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of concern crossing his features. "You need to focus, Ronan. This meeting is important. It's not just about you; it's about our pack's future." I nodded, his words grounding me in the reality of my responsibilities. Being an alpha came with its burdens, and the expectations were relentless, but that girl still bothered my thoughts. "Alex, I met the strangest girl ever," I began slowly. "She thought she was an omega." Alex looked at me through the front mirror, pausing for a moment before asking, "Well, is she an omega?" I shook my head. "I don't know. She told me that she was an omega, but I don't believe her." "Why?" Alex asked, his curiosity piqued. "I could sense it, although it was faint, but I could sense her wolf," I said, confusion lacing my voice as I spoke slowly. "So, I don't get it. Is she lying? Or is she telling the truth?" Alex asked, his brow furrowed. "I don't think she is aware of her own wolf," I told him. The car fell silent, the only sound being the engine humming on the road. "That's... strange," Alex said, and I agreed with him. "I know. What do you think could be the cause?" I asked him, hoping for some insight. "I don't know, my Alpha. But I don't think we should be dwelling on your stranger. You have a marriage coming up soon," Alex reminded me, trying to steer the conversation back to our pressing responsibilities. "Political marriage," I corrected Alex with a grin. "You know how important this marriage is. We need Alpha Marcus's alliance to crush the rogues," Alex reminded me, his tone serious. "Of course, of course..." I repeated, looking outside at the passing scenery. Just what are you, my stranger princess? I thought with a smile, feeling the pull of curiosity and intrigue that I couldn't quite shake.
