AFEEFA'S POV:
"Afifa!!!" My mom yelled from downstairs.
"Yes mom. I am coming down any moment now" I yelled back as I kept on struggling with my hijab.
"Afifa!!! Don't let me meet you in that room. Get out now!" Mom ordered
I quickly picked up my bag and wore a simple white flat shoe. I looked at myself at the mirror to make sure I'm not missing anything. I wore a simple blue gown with a bow by the side with a white hijab I sprayed my favorite Arab perfume that dad bought me last week when he returned from his business trip from Madinah
"Here I am Mom" I said as I rushed down the stairs
"You want to be late for your flight AGAIN right?" Mom said emphasizing on the 'Again'.
"sorry mummy" I said looking down at my feet.
"Sorry for yourself" she said as she was very angry. Well I see her point in that because I was supposed to leave On Friday but its Monday and I am still here because I either wake up late and miss my flight or I don't get ready quickly.
I hugged her very tightly as I remembered that I was going to leave this wonderful woman in front of me and my whole family
"I'll miss you mummy" I said as tears started rolling down my cheeks
"I'll miss you too Feefa" she replied.
"Now stop crying like a baby. It's not the end of the world, You are just leaving for your own benefit. You need to go and study and make us proud." she said as she stroked my back
"I know mom." I said
"I love you mom....." I added
"Always and forever?" She asked cutting me off
"Always and forever" I said giving her a reassuring smile that I'm okay.
That's our favorite quote. I don't know where she got that from but I love it.
"Where's dad?" I asked her wiping my tears away after a long moment of silence
"He's in his study room"
"OK. Let me go and say bye to him" I said as I started walking away.
"By the way mom." I called her.
"Yeah?" she answered as I saw her walking towards the kitchen.
"Where's Ameer?" I asked
"He left for his morning exercise" she said as she continued her journey to the kitchen
"OK. I said" that guy really likes building up his body. Its like his body is a temple to him.
"Make sure you come back soon to have breakfast" mom called out.
"OK" I yelled as I opened the door into dad's library.
I saw him reading his daily newspaper with a cup of coffee by his side.
I sighed internally. This old man never gets tired of coffee, neither does he get tired of reading those newspapers. I mean come on. Who still reads newspapers these days?
"Morning daddy" I said as I ran and gave him a bone crushing hug
"Oh! My beauty queen, do you want to break your king to half?" He asked trying to breathe.
"Oh sorry." I said as I giggled. Releasing him from the tight hug
"You are awake already?" He asked
"Yeah Daddy"
"I thought you were going to sleep in late today" he said
"I wish. I don't want to be late for my flight because mom will crush me today" I said I smiled
"Flight?" He asked confused. He really forgot? I asked myself.
"Yeah, for the trip daddy. You forgot so soon?" I told him
"Oh yeah! That's true. Kinsan tsohon ki din sai a hankali (you know your old man. You just have to take it slow) he said and I started laughing at him
But I noticed that his mood changed.
" hey dad, don't be sad. I will be coming back Insha'allah if we are on holidays. Ba wai zama a gurin zanyi ba ai (its not like I am going to stay there) I told him stating the obvious.
"Yeah, your are right my beauty. May Allah guide you all the way" he said as I hugged him again tightly
"Ameen ya Rabb. I'll miss you daddy" I said as tears weld up in my eyes again.
"I'll miss you too beauty" he said
"Feefa!" mom yelled my name
"I'm coming right now" I yelled back as I released dad from the long hug.
"Dad. I would be going now." I said as I made my way to the door.
"Good luck darling. Make sure you take care of yourself, okay? And make sure you don't make any bad friends or any bad friends that will distract you, remember our deal." he said as he takes a sip from his coffee and continued to focus on his newspaper
"Ok. dad i promise. And i won't forget our deal. " i told him as i gave him a reassuring smile.
I quickly sped off to the kitchen
Upon reaching there I saw my food already on the dinning table
I sat down and ate until I was satisfied and as if on que. Mom came in immediately
"Wow. You are done eating so fast?" She asked as I smiled sheepishly at her
She just smiled and hugged me tight
"Your luggage is already I the car. Danladi already took it out for you
"OK mom. Bye. My regards to Ameer. Tell him that I will call him when I get there. Insha'allah"
"OK darling, I will, bye" mom waved as I opened the car door.
I waved at her before going inside and I saw her wiping off tears from her eys
Typical mom, she was the person who told me not to cry and now she is crying.
I smiled and closed the door.
The car zoomed off
This is how life is. I never imagined that I for once will leave that house.
But see me today about going to a different Country. All on my own without Ameer or mom Or dad either.
So I haven't introduced myself yet.
I am Afifa Mohammad Suleiman
I am 18 years old turning 19 in two months time insha'allah
Those two wonderful people are my parents. My mom is from Egypt but my dad is a Nigeria. And so he was asked to come over and take over a family business here in Nigeria. We moved to Nigeria when I was 5 years of age. And Ameer was 10 years of age.
You guys didn't get to meet Ameer. But he is my other half. My crazy brother that always picks on me but I still love him though.
