Chapter 3 Zoe Calton

1497 Words
A small courtyard in the outer suburbs was standing alone far away from the village. After a night of wind and rain, it looked more refreshing and alone. Scarlett stood on the grass-covered path. Watching the man dozing off against the door frame, her heart that had been tempered overnight gradually became warmer. She had lost her virginity. She was hated by her family and going to marry a stranger, so what? After all, she was still alive and well, and those important people were still by her side, waiting for her to come home to take care of them. It was much better than before. Scarlett subconsciously quickened her pace. But as soon as she stepped forward, the tearing pain in her body made her gasp. The sound was light, but loud enough to break the silence of the morning. Ray, who was dozing off on the threshold, straightened up immediately. When he saw Scarlett not far away, he immediately stood up with joy. "Ray, you haven't been sitting for another night, have you? Zoe is a nuisance. She doesn't come home every night." A fat village woman looked at Ray with concern, "Look at you. You’re so pale and tired. To be honest, you should..." "What?" Scarlett sneered, "He should be adopted, sold to a human trafficker, and beg on the streets?" The village woman was taken aback. When she turned around and saw Scarlett glaring at her, she smiled apologetically, "Well, I just have a distant relative who has no children, and he wants an honest and reliable child..." "Get out!" Scarlett grabbed the village woman by the collar, lifted her at once, and warned her word by word, "Don't get close to Ray, or I'll teach you a good lesson." As soon as Scarlett released her hand, the fat village woman was thrown 3 feet away and fell heavily to the ground. The village woman got up immediately and cried hysterically, "Help, help!" Ray watched the village woman escape quickly. Then he turned to look at Scarlett, frowned, and asked, "With your strength, she shouldn't be able to get up so quickly. Are you injured? Was it difficult? What happened to your clothes? What happened last night? Why did you turn your phone off?" Scarlett put her arm around Ray's shoulder and walked in, "Yeah, it was a little tricky, and I was injured slightly." Ray was a little anxious and looked her up and down, "Injured? Where is the injury?" Scarlett grabbed his hand and said, "Oh, stop." "Here." Scarlett pointed to her heart and said, "I just got back from the Reeds." "The Reeds?" Ray was successfully distracted, and said with a look of disapproval, "Why did you go there? Did they give you a hard time again?" "This time, they not only gave me a hard time but also arranged a marriage for me." Scarlett told him about Jared's proposal to marry her to the Johnsons and finally said, "There's nothing wrong with marrying the Johnsons. At least I will live a comfortable life in the future. I heard that the monthly allowance of a daughter-in-law in a rich family is 100,000 dollars. Then you can go to a good school and we won't have to worry about Rachel." "Enough." Ray slammed the plate he had just prepared on the table and said angrily, "I don't need you to sacrifice your happiness to find me a good school, and neither does Rachel." He seemed to feel that his attitude was not good, so he adjusted his tone and said, "Scarlett, I can get into a good school if I study hard, and Rachel will get better soon as long as we find him a new heart. But marriage is a lifetime thing, and life in a rich family is difficult. What do the Reeds look like? Haven't you seen it?" "I thought so five years ago. As long as we found Rachel a new heart, everything would be fine. But five years later, there is still no heart for him." Scarlett lowered her head and drank the soup, and said lightly, "Why did the trafficker always come to you? She thought I couldn’t afford to support you and took advantage of it. If I marry into a wealthy family, she wouldn't dare to come again." "Salia is not a human trafficker." Ray was amused, "I'll go out to work today, and we'll raise Rachel together. You’re not marrying that crazy man from the Johnsons." Crazy man! Scarlett's heart trembled violently when she remembered the man's charming voice, "Yes, I'm crazy." "Stop discussing it anymore. I'll decide my own life." When Scarlett finished the soup, she stood up and went upstairs, "I'm taking the day off from school today. You can go to school yourself." "What about Jake?" Ray asked loudly, looking at her back, "If you marry into the Johnsons, what about Jake? Didn't you say he was waiting for you? Didn't you say you'd find him one day in your wedding dress and tell him you did it? If you marry into the Johnsons, what about your hard work all these years? Why did you desperately try to escape from the beggars' house? You should have just waited for them to sell you into a wealthy family." These words made her heartache, making her hard to breathe. Scarlett stood there, feeling dizzy. She accepted what happened last night, and she tried hard to avoid the question about Jake. However, she still couldn't escape. Scarlett held on to her broken bracelet. After a long while, she said softly, "Ray, we can't always live in the past." She walked up the stairs without looking back. Ray didn’t see her painful tears. The unpleasant conversation ended. However, when Scarlett woke up, she saw Ray busy in the kitchen as usual. Ray put the food on the table and told her to come over to eat, "Scarlett, the club invited you to participate in the game at 8 p.m. tonight. Are you going?" "Of course, I’m going to make some money," Scarlett said carelessly. After a good sleep, though she still felt a little uncomfortable, her spirit was much better. There was still a good chance of winning against someone from the club. Ray breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Scarlett was boxing, there would be hope to turn her marriage thing around. After all, a wealthy family certainly wouldn't allow their daughter-in-law to box. But Scarlett thought that even if she married into the Johnsons, she wouldn't just be an idle Mrs. Johnsons. At night, the Noble Club was shrouded in gorgeous neon lights. It looked like a huge glowing egg, shining brightly under the night sky. The top luxury cars at the gate showed how luxurious it was. "Mike, the auction is over. Are we going to the arena?" In Noble Club's VIP aisle, Brian looked gentle and elegant in his white suit. In front of him was Mike in black. Mike refused coldly, "No." "Do you know who I am? How dare you meddle in my business?" There came a piercing voice from the safety exit through the door. "This is my place, and I can do whatever I want." There came another cold female voice. Mike stopped, and Brian immediately encouraged, "Well, how dare she say that Noble Club is hers. Mike, aren’t you going to do something?" "How dare you hit me? Do you know who I am? You are just an underground boxer. You’re asking for trouble." The heart-piercing voice was accompanied by a loud bang. The safety door was suddenly knocked open, and someone fell on the safe passage and landed at Mike's feet, revealing the situation in the safe passage. A girl in black with a half-mask and tied hair was bending over to help a handsome boy in tattered clothes to his feet. She took off her black robe and put it on him, "Don't come to Noble Club again. This is not the place for you." The boy gratefully said, "Thank you, Zoe." Scarlett raised her eyebrows, "You know me?" "Of course. Everyone at Noble Club knows you. You are the ace of Noble Club, and no one can beat you." The boy stood up and smiled at her, "My name is Randall Green. Nice to meet you." Randall quickly rushed down the stairs. Scarlett laughed and stood up. Was he shy? Mike looked at the scene in front of him coldly and somehow found it a little familiar. Scarlett felt the stare outside the door. She turned around and happened to meet Mike's eyes. She curled her lips slightly and went downstairs. Brian said quickly, "She is the ace boxer of the Noble Club arena. Other clubs have come to challenge her but no one can defeat her. Do you want to watch?" Rossie on the side looked at Mike with burning eyes, "I want to fight with her."
