Where It All Started
when I was 15 all I ever wanted was to fall in love. I believed in every fairy tale ending and I truly believed that I would find mine. Years went by and all I ever got was dead end relationships with unrealistic expectations. My dad always told me that guys just wanted one thing and one thing only, but I didn't want to acknowledge that, I didn't want to think it was true. I knew there was more to love than lust. It was just the matter of finding the right one. He always told me I was naive but what else could you expect from your father who's had numerous failed relationships and been divorced twice. He was probably just talking about himself. It wasn't until I turned 18 that I was gifted with more freedom; I was finally allowed to go out, do my own thing, and go to parties whenever I pleased. But that's when everything turned for the worst. I was invited to accompany my bestfriend Samantha to a pool party being hosted by one of the coolest boys in school. She's always been more accepted than I was because she was the pretty preppy party girl and I was the goth outcast that usually sat at home and read book after book all throughout highschool as everyone else got drunk in feilds. I've been invited to things like this on some occasions but I always decided to bail to avoid any form of public embarrassment and my dad never really was keen on it. Tonight was my night to finally show them. I wanted to show everyone that I'm not that lame girl they seem to make me out to be, and what better way to do it than at the richest guys house in this small town. His name was Jake Stonington and his parents were the founders of multiple big time businesses across the state. Sam told me to be ready by 8pm so we could have a few shots before heading to his house so I threw on some makeup and started storming through my closet. I pulled out my cute dark blue dress that ran a little too short and had a generous v neck at the collar, I wasn't used to showing so much cleavage but I needed to make sure I would fit in given the type of people that usually show up to Jake's parties. I grabbed a light blue bikini with chain link straps to go with it and glanced at the clock, where was she? Sam was supposed to be picking me up a half hour ago! I better ring her up. "Sam what has gotten into you?!" "I know I know, I'm sorry! you know I can never show up under done and I couldn't figure out what to wear but I just pulled in your driveway so don't be such a b*tch and get out here, I can't believe you're actually coming!" "don't make me change my mind" I hiss as I'm grabbing my house keys and running out the door in heels I can barely walk in. When I got in the car I couldn't help but glare at her, she had a smug smile plastered on her face and I could tell she was trying to hide it. "what are you high? why are you looking at me like that?!" I sneered but couldn't help the laugh that came up afterwards. "I knew you wanted to dress up-" she smiled even bigger "but I didn't even know who was getting into my f*****g car when I looked over" "oh shut up" I said so low I wasn't even sure if she heard it "no seriously you never do your makeup anymore, I kind of forgot you look like a mystical goddess when you do" I could understand that, I always have my hair up in a ponytail and never care to do up my face but that was school not a party swarmed with a-list guests. Tonight I had my purple hair down and straightened past my belly button, coupled up with probably the skankiest dress I own. *wait till she sees the bathing suit* I think to myself unaware of the idiotic grin I have stuck on my face. "so are you excited?!" she exclaimed; making me jump in my seat. "excited to hangout with some of the prudest people we ever knew? not really, but I'm hoping I can atleast make a come back and people might genuinely like me instead of utter whispers everytime I walk by" "oh come on they aren't that bad, some of them just have loose screws in their head-clearly!" her attempts at comforting me always go to waste, she knows I'm not dumb enough to believe that.
