The seneschal, Cassie remembered from Ella’s words earlier, was the senior house administrator. Clearly, then, he was someone who would demand deference and punish any sign of sloppy or recalcitrant behavior. And Cassie also remembered the two words the other slave had used to describe punishments in this place: inventive and vicious.
That being the case, both she and Gina struggled to follow Ella’s instructions, and greet the three men looking at them from the other side of the bars with due deference—on their knees, with knees spread wide and heads down, looking at the floor.
