Chapter Twenty-Five
Lizzie woke a little after four a.m. with her stomach growling.
She stretched and reached for Donny but found only empty space to her left. Confused, she got out of bed, put on her robe, and went to look for him.
She found him in their kitchen putting together a massive sandwich.
“Good call, I’m starving,” she said, and got two more pieces of bread out for herself, then stood at his side and made her own snack.
“I thought you might be up soon,” he informed her, “so I started the coffeepot already.”
“Sweet!” Lizzie answered, then stood on bare tiptoes to kiss him before she swiveled to move across the kitchen to retrieve two mugs.
They settled in with their food and their coffee at the kitchen table.
