CHAPTER 25
It was all because of me.
“Wait here, please,” Burk said to Anna and me when we reached the king’s chamber, where Lord Rowen was waiting for us.
I waited awkwardly next to Anna. Two guards stood at either side of the doors, heavily armed with swords, short knives and other metallic things that I assumed were as dangerous as those blades.
“What shall we say?” Anna whispered to me. She fiddled with her dress. She was probably nervous, even though she hadn’t done anything wrong, unlike me.
“The truth,” I whispered back. “All of it.”
She nodded and we stood there in silence. With every passing moment I was more and more nervous. Burk finally appeared and waved toward us.
