A Queen Among Wolves

In a world ruled by ruthless men, power is taken, not given.

For twenty-two years, Amara Moretti lived in the shadows of a dangerous legacy, unaware that her bloodline tied her to one of the most feared mafia empires in the country. When the sudden death of her estranged father throws the underworld into chaos, she finds herself at the center of a brutal war for the throne.

The mafia families see her as weak. A pawn. A woman who can be manipulated, married off, or eliminated.

They are wrong.

Surrounded by enemies disguised as allies, Amara is forced to navigate a world of betrayal, bloodshed, and deadly secrets. Every move she makes is watched by wolves waiting for her to fail. Among them is Luca De Santis—a feared mafia king with a reputation for violence and a gaze that sees straight through her defenses.

Their alliance is supposed to be temporary.

Their attraction is supposed to be impossible.

But as rival families close in and old betrayals come to light, Amara and Luca find themselves fighting a war on two fronts: one for power and one for their hearts.

In a kingdom built on blood, loyalty is rare, trust is dangerous, and love can be the deadliest weapon of all.

To survive, Amara must become more than a queen.

She must become the wolf they never saw coming.

The Girl They Underestimated
The rain fell relentlessly against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, turning the city lights into blurred streaks of gold and white. Amara Moretti stared out at the storm, her arms folded across her chest. Nights like these always made her uneasy. There was something about thunder that felt like a warning. Her phone buzzed on the kitchen counter. She ignored it. It buzzed again. And again. With a sigh, she crossed the room and picked it up. Five missed calls. All from the same unknown number. A knot formed in her stomach. Before she could decide whether to call back, the phone rang again. This time, she answered. "Hello?" Silence. Then a deep male voice spoke. "Miss Moretti?" Amara frowned. "Who's asking?" "My name is Antonio Russo. I'm calling on behalf of your father." Her grip tightened around the phone. "My father is dead." Another silence. "No, Miss Moretti," the man replied quietly. "He died twenty minutes ago." The room suddenly felt smaller. Colder. "What?" "He suffered multiple gunshot wounds outside a private residence. We need you to come immediately." Amara laughed nervously. A short, disbelieving sound. "There must be a mistake." "There isn't." The call ended. Just like that. No sympathy. No explanation. Only a location sent to her phone seconds later. Amara stood frozen. Her father. Dead. The same father who abandoned her and her mother when she was seven years old. The same man who never called on birthdays. Never attended graduations. Never cared enough to stay. And yet, hearing the word dead felt like someone had punched a hole through her chest. She grabbed her coat and keys. An hour later, she arrived at a luxurious mansion hidden behind iron gates. Black SUVs lined the driveway. Men in dark suits stood everywhere. Watching. Waiting. The moment she stepped out of her car, conversations stopped. Dozens of eyes turned toward her. A chill crawled down her spine. Antonio Russo approached her. Tall. Broad shouldered. Cold-eyed. "Miss Moretti." She nodded. "Where is he?" Antonio didn't answer immediately. Instead, he studied her as if trying to solve a puzzle. "This way." They entered the mansion. The atmosphere inside felt suffocating. Power hung in the air. Danger too. Amara noticed expensive paintings, marble floors, and armed guards stationed in nearly every hallway. Who exactly had her father become? Antonio led her into a massive room. The moment she stepped inside, her breath caught. There were nearly thirty men gathered around a long table. Every single one of them looked dangerous. Every single one stared at her. At the head of the table sat a man dressed entirely in black. He looked younger than the others. Early thirties, perhaps. Sharp jaw. Dark hair. Piercing grey eyes. He wasn't speaking. Yet somehow, he commanded the room. His gaze met hers. For a brief second, everything else disappeared. The noise. The people. The tension. It was just those eyes. Cold. Calculating. Predatory. The stranger leaned back in his chair. "That's her?" A murmur spread through the room. Antonio nodded. "Yes." The man's eyes narrowed. Amara lifted her chin. "Who are you?" Several men exchanged amused looks. One even laughed. The stranger didn't. Instead, he stood. Slowly. Deliberately. The room immediately fell silent. Every person there seemed to hold their breath. He walked toward her. Each step measured. Controlled. Dangerous. When he finally stopped in front of her, Amara realized he was much taller than she'd expected. He looked down at her. "You don't know who your father was, do you?" Her stomach twisted. "What does that have to do with anything?" A faint smile touched his lips. Not a kind smile. The smile of a wolf spotting prey. "Everything." The room remained silent. Waiting. Watching. Then the stranger delivered the words that would change her life forever. "Your father wasn't a businessman, Amara." A beat passed. "He was one of the most powerful mafia bosses in the country." The world tilted beneath her feet. And for the first time, Amara realized she had just stepped into a kingdom of wolves.
