ATHENA’s POV.
I wake up to the small splatter of the rain on the window. I let out a little yawn as I pull my body to a sitting position. The food is still on the bedside table, untouched.
When the butler had come to serve it, Seth had followed her. He wanted me to eat at all costs but I couldn't even put a morsel in my mouth. It felt wrong.
He didn’t push, he only told me to make sure I eat before I go to bed.
But the only thing on my mind now is to go to the bathroom. But my whole body hurts. It’s like someone used a plank on me when I was asleep.
“Hmmm.” I heave a sigh when I try to push my body off the bed but all to no avail. Anger immediately wells up inside of me. It’s like I have no say in my own life again. A week ago, I could go to the bathroom by myself.
As if he read my thoughts, a gentle knock comes on my door and I don’t bother to ask who it is. I already know him.
“Come on in.” I tell him and he pushes the door open, stepping inside almost immediately. Seth didn’t look like he got any wink of sleep.
“Are you okay?” He asks, his voice deeper than usual, “I heard you calling out of me.”
“I didn’t,” I manage to reply, “but I need to use the bathroom,” I add, sniffing back a tear. I hate to be a burden on someone and this is exactly the position this has put me.
“I can’t go alone,” I add again and he nods.
“I will help you.”
“Thank you.”
Serh comes closer to the bed, his huge frame towering above me. He looks so tall, compared to him I look like a child. Earlier, if Stefan Diane called him grandpa, I have never looked at him in that light before. Yes. He has some grey hair but that adds to his gorgeousness. I can’t help but wonder if he knew how beautiful he actually looked.
Dammit, Athena. How the heck did it come to this? Since when did I start ogling other men? Stefan is the only man in my life and I am not going to let Gemini in even if she tries.
“I will lift you up now,” his voice pulls me out of my revirie and I nod.
As soon as he picks me up and our bodies make contact, a kind of electric wave shoots through my body and it leaves almost immediately. It feels like it never happened, I glanced at Seth but he looks normal. Maybe it’s my body just reacting to another person. Only Stefan has touched me all my life, no one else so I genuinely understand why my body is acting up.
He takes me into the bathroom and gentley set me on the edge of the tub.
“Can you help yourself now?” He asks and I shake my head in the negative. I am in pain and the fear of doing something to myself makes it almost impossible for me to try and move.
“Did my nurse leave?”
“Hmmm.” He nods, “I told her she could take the rest of the day off.”
“I was hoping she could help. I am unable to—
“What do you want me to do for you?” His question makes me raise my head to him.
“I am a doctor, Athena.” He continues, “I have seen patients like this before. Tell me.”
“I am married.”
I am not about to ask a man to help me with my dress so I can pee.
“And you are my patient. Do I have your permission?”
I sit silent for a while, his words ringing in my head until I nod. It’s not like I have anything to lose at this point.
“Hmmm” I nod and he slowly picks me up again and takes me towards the toilet. After gently settling me down, Seth proceeds to slowly pull up my shirt and I am left in front of him, only bare to my undies.
He also goes ahead to pull that down and I swallow hard. The moment his hand makes contact with my skin. It’s like something electrifying comes through me again but he doesn’t look at me. He only straightens himself and looks away immediately.
“You can go ahead.
“This will take a while,” I tell him, “I will call you when I’m done.”
“I’m standing by the door.”
It isn’t until he steps out of the bathroom that I let out a sigh. I realized I have been holding my breath for a while now.
I don’t know if it’s because of everything happening but then, the way my senses switch so fast when he is close. The way my body reacts. It has reacted to Stefan like that but not as intense as this. The more he comes close, the more my body reacts to him like we have known each other for years.
I shake my head to remove the thoughts of him. I am not going to dwell on that much. The only reason why I am here is because he asked. I am going to focus on getting better and going home.
“I am done.” I finally call out and the door opens immediately. He steps in. Helps me up before he gently leads me out of the room. The food is no longer on my bedside table and my bed has been made.
I turn to look at him and our eyes meet. For a few seconds, he keeps staring at me. I can see the restraint in his eyes. The way his jaw is locked tight. It’s almost like he is fighting himself for something.
“I took the food away,” he announces.
“Thank you.” I mouth as I gently sit on the bed. He doesn’t move and I don’t say anything. It’s like the two of us have become tongue tied. But somewhere in my head I can still feel the spark and the electric shock.
“I will bring you back to the hospital in the morning.”
“No!” I immediately blurt, much to my own dismay. I look around the room and somehow I realise that the serenity I feel here, I will be unable to get it in the hospital. There is a part of me that wants to hide here forever and not leave.
“There is peace here.” I tell him, “I don’t want to leave.”
