CHAPTER FOURTEEN

1176 Words
SETH’s POV. “There is peace here. I don’t want to leave.” Her voice comes out in a whisper but I can hear every single plea in her voice. I am surprised she said that even if part of me wants her to stay. There is something drawing me to her, something much more different. My wolf wants her, my wolf recognizes her. I don’t want her away from me. I want Athena always in my line of sight. It has just been a few days but I can already know how much I feel about her. Slowly, I walk towards the bed and I lower myself on it. Her attention is still on the window. “Tell me.” I start to talk, “why did you say that? I thought you wanted to go back to Stefan?” Calling his name fills me with dread and anger. I want to hurt him so bad that he will never even look at her again. “The peace here is worth it.” Athena says again, “I haven’t had peace like this in the last six years and it’s breathtaking. Something inside of me wants to sign the divorce papers and lean into this peace.” She slowly turns her head towards me, her gaze setting on me, “it feels promising, doctor Seth.” “You can have the peace you so desire if you want it, Athena.” “But I don’t have a life outside of him,” she says again, returning her attention to the window, “I have not had a life outside of Stefan in the past six years. How will I do that now? How— The phone on the bedside table buzzes and she turns to pick it up. I don’t stop her. I only use that opportunity to study her every move and expression. Her silver hair, her pale blue eyes. Every single delicate feature of her reminds me so much of my ex wife. It was as if she has come to me again. The only difference is what I feel. For her, I feel anger and betrayal but for Athena, i genuinely cannot place it. I watch her click on something and begins to read. The more she reads, the more her countenance changes and I see her hand starts to tremble. Without thinking twice about it, I take the phone from her hand and allow my eyes to travel over the screen. Breaking news: wife of business tycoon, Athena Hallows confirmed to be cheating on husband for a while now which has led to their breakup after six years of marriage.” Wow, Stefan sure went all out for this one. “That bastard!” Athena grits as she clenches her hand together, “how dare he?” She isn’t crying but I can see the anger in her eyes. Her entire body is shaking but not from fear, from anger. I don’t stop her because this is the part of her I have been wanting to see for the last few days. The part of her that is genuinely angry about what her family has done to her. She takes her phone away from me and dials a number, the person on the other end immediately answers like he or she has been waiting for the call. “I am guessing you just saw the news,” a voice comes through, “right?” Athena scoffs. For a moment, I can no longer see a woman who lost her baby but an angry wife and Luna. She is the Luna of her pack and her sister has no right to speak to her in that manner but Stefan. That weakling. He dared allow someone else to disrespect her in this manner. “I am sure you will be willing to sign the papers now, dear sis.” Gemini says from the other end again. “You are so used to used things, aren’t you?” Athena asks, “even up to my husband, the man I have slept with for six years of my life. You still cannot keep your hands off of him, right?” “Stefan was never yours, Athena.” She hisses her voice wavering for a moment. “You can have him,” she drops the bombshell, “but make sure you get ready because you will be fighting for your place all your life, Gemini. You will always be the other woman, hope you did not forget that.” “You are the other woman!” She snaps and Athena smiles again. “Just like your mother.” Her voice comes out in a whisper, almost lethal, “she took what was not hers and you are doing the same. Why am I even surprised?” “How dare you, Athena?” Gemini yells and I can’t stop the smile that creeps up on my face. She is tough, I have to give that to her. “How dare you speak about my mother in that manner?” “I will only be dealing with Stefan from now,” she continues, “if you as much as take my name in your mouth. I will tear you into a million pieces.” She doesn’t wait for Gemini to say anything else, Athena immediately ends the call and throws the phone to the bed. For a few seconds, the two of us seat in silence. She isn’t sad or upset, she is just numb and it is evident on her face. “You can cry it out.” I finally tell her but she shakes her head in the negative. “I have cried enough.” She slowly tilts her head to me, “I have been crying for six years, Doctor. I no longer have any tears left inside of me to cry.” “What do you want then?” She looks at me for a while and shakes her head. “I will handle this on my own.” Athena replies, “Stefan no longer have the right to hurt me as he has done for the past six years. He wants a divorce? Fine, I will give it to him. He isn’t even worth it in the first place.” I don’t say a word but I can see the determination in her eyes. I smiled. I loved the courage in her voice, the only thing I want to take away is the pain in her eyes. “My phone.” Athena mouthed and I handed her the phone. She punched in a few digits before pressing the phone against her ear. “Prepare me a counter contract,” she says into the receiver, her voice authoritative and for a moment I wonder how she addresses the pack as their Luna. Part of me badly wanted to see if. “half of everything Stefan owns belongs legally to me.” She further adds, “that should be included in our divorce settlement.”
