ATHENA’s POV.
I am surprised when I step out of the car and I see Stefan and Gemini in front of me. The two of them are holding hands but Stefan’s attention is on my intertwined hand with Seth.
I am still feeling some pains around my lower body and that’s why Seth is being so concerned but the man in front of me knows the exact reason why he is holding onto my junior sister’s hand.
Looking at them, anger fills me up and I tighten my hold on Seth who doesn’t even flinch. I am not upset that the two of them are together, I am angry about the fact that I wasted years of my life trying to be an ideal to a mad man.
“You have really grown wings, Athena.” Gemini mocks, “coming hand in hand with another man. Aren’t you afraid of public criticism? You have always lived like the ideal wife. What do you think people should say?”
“You really are something, Athena” Stefan adds, “you couldn’t wait to get revenge on me, right?”
Despite my anger, I can’t help but scoff. Maybe if we all chose to not make things about ourselves all the time, the world would be a better place.
“Can we go in?” I ask Seth who nods.
Without another word, we walk past the two of them. Gemini is muttering something to Stefan but that’s the least of my concerns right now. The only thing in my head is how to get completely better. I am genuinely tired of being in and out of the hospital.
Seth did not take me to a hospital room, he takes me to his office.
My eyes widen for a moment when I enter his office. It is unlike what I have imagined. Calm and lonely to me. The dark colors complimenting each other could have been perfect if I don’t feel the loneliness slipping through the walls.
But I keep my observations to myself. A man like Seth has a lot going on with him and at this point, I don’t think I am in the mental space to pry.
“Have a seat.” His deep baritone pulls me out of my train of thought, “I will ask the nurse to come do your check up here.”
I don’t argue. I know exactly why he has brought me here.
“Thank you.”
He nods as he calmly removes his suit jacket and hangs it on the hanger. My eyes follow his every move. Seth is not a man who moves in a hurry. He is calm and composed so much that it is almost impossible to know what’s going through that mind of his.
Part of me is wondering what he is thinking, part of me wants to know what goes on in his head but the relationship is strictly doctor and patient and I am looking to keep it that way.
My phone buzzes and I immediately answer when I see the caller ID.
“Luna” his voice comes through.
“Call me Athena.” I cut him off. The name Liam makes me sick to my stomach. Years of being called that and what the heck did I get in return?
“Sorry, ma’am” he replies, “I have finally gotten a place for you. The kind of place you wanted.”
“Really?” My eyes light up. The fact that I don’t have to go back to my matrimonial home kind of makes me feel light. I genuinely won’t be able to breathe in that place anyways.
“Yes ma’am” he replies, “when you are ready, I can show you the place.”
“I will be done in a few hours.” I tell him, “I will give you a call then.”
“I will be expecting.”
After I end the call, the smile on my face widens up. Even if it’s a small thing, this has really made me happy. For all my life, I have never really done anything for myself but now, it feels like I can finally breathe.
“Good news?” Seth asks as he walks towards me.
“Hmm” I nod, “my agent finally got a place. I will go check it out later.”
“Oh. I see”
I don’t know the kind of response I was expecting from him but he does not look as excited as I thought he would. Not like I am expecting him to jump and be merry but then—
“It’s a good thing,” Seth says again, “I will bring you.”
“Please. You don’t have to” he has done enough for me already and I am genuinely grateful to him. Even without knowing me, he treats me like he has known me all his life.
“You have done enough for me and I am grateful. I can manage.”
“I know you can.” He gently lowers himself on the space beside me. As soon as he does, his cologne fills my nose. Not too harsh but I can inhale every bit of it. His eyes keep staring at me like he wants to unravel me. I look away even without saying anything.
“Until you are finally out of whatever this is, you are my responsibility, Athena” he says calmly, too calmly, “so I will bring you to the house. Is that okay?”
“Why are you being nice to me, Seth?” The words are out of my mouth before I can stop myself, “you look out for me. You even took me to your house and now you want to go with me to my new place. Why exactly are you doing this Doctor? What—
He keeps looking at me without saying a word, his jaw is clenched tight and I also notice his fist is balled.
“Say something, Doctor.” I cajole him again, “Do you perhaps think I am a charity case?”
“Thats not on the list.” He replies.
“So why?”
“Let me call the nurse.” He says after a few seconds of silence and makes to stand up but I grab a hold of his hand.
“Tell me, Seth.”
“It will be bizarre to tell you I want you, Athena,” he says softly, his gaze intensifying with each passing moment, “so I will tell you that I am doing this because I am your doctor.”
I swallow hard as I let go of his hand and I watch him walk out of the office.
Why the heck was the office now so hot?
