This was my first time teaching a class. Many of the students in front of me had been in the school a few weeks. There were humans, Vampires, werewolves and shifters. All of were species which were good at combat when taught correctly.
Mace, Theo and Tristan stood behind me. Tristan got everyones attention.
‘Attention please the class is starting.’ Tristan spoke in sharp powerful tone. He didn't need to shout as he radiated energy and power.
‘Morning class.’ I Chimed stepping forwards. The pupils looked at her in silence.
‘Today we will be working on fitness and stamina. Since this is the first class I don't want to tire you guys out too much. I have been putting together a fitness timetable for each of you to work on your cardio and stamina. I will assess you all throughout todays session. Some of you will need more work than others to get to the correct fitness. I will be here to help you wherever I can. As will the team stood behind me. They will also be taking this fitness test as well.’
Turning to look at the boys stood behind her. Mace smiled in appreciation of being included. Theo giggled and Tristan gave his nod of approval. He stood forward to speak.
‘Fitness and stamina are things we need to work on as a priority. We cannot hope to defend ourselves against multiple attackers without the correct stamina. I feel that it is time for a demonstration.’ He grinned at me.
‘Are you ready love?’ Mace chucked under his breath just so that I could hear.
I walked onto the matted area on the grass. Followed by the boys. There were three attackers one defender. Mace, Tristan and Theo each took a corner.
‘ I need a volunteer to be another attacker! Someone who wants to fight me. Any takers?’ I spoke loud.
‘I volunteer.’ A voice came from the back of the crowd.
Benji walked through the crowd towards me, his sister. I rolled her eyes at my brother.
‘You know I always beat your ass when we spared back home. Do you remember when we did that competition? I broke your arm, didn't I? I beat you, and I will do it again. You better watch out brother, who knows what limb I will break this time.’ I giggled at him.
‘Oh I know, I stepped forward to make the odds fair on them Val. Maybe with 4 good fighters against one great fighter we might stand a chance of beating you.’
A sly grin spread across my face. It was unlikely they all could take me. I thought to myself. I am exited, I'm going to show them what I can do. I will prove to them that a human can win against 3 supernatural attackers, and one very well trained human attacker.
‘We will see brother, Theo, Mace, Tristan. Are you ready?’
Each nodding at me, confirming they were ready. Theo charged at me. I was stood at the centre of the mat. He slid trying to take my legs out and I easily hopped over them. Whilst Benji ran at me from behind and dived at me. I ducked and he flew over the top of me and landed in a heap in the corner.
‘Is that all you've got?’ I cackled, giggling to myself.
Mace was next throwing a punch in my direction, which I easily blocked with my arm, diverting the punch from my face. Tristan circled both Mace and me whilst Theo and Benji were planning their next move. Calculating looks on both their faces.
Myself and Mace continued throwing punches and Tristan joined in the fight throwing punches into the fray which were blocked easily from the two attackers. Tristan aimed at my stomach and Mace aimed at my face. I had to be quick to block these attacks. I quickly became bored of the same attempt over and over again.
‘This is getting boring now, Who actually wants to take me down? Because it seems like you all are scared of hurting a girl. A attacker whether male or female wont hesitate to hurt or kill you. So come on lads lets get to it, its time to step up your game.’
Theo joined in the fight it didn't really make any difference. I was blocking attacks from each side. Punches and kicks were being thrown left right and centre. I was dodging them perfectly. Benji decided to enter the fight he took a swing at me.
I Glanced at Benji as I gave him a sly smile, the exact same smile I gave him the last time we fort. He knew what was coming. He backed away slowly.
‘s**t, Val no.’ He muttered.
The others paused looking at Benji, wondering what was going on. Theo stepped back he knew exactly what that meant. He slowly walked backwards not taking his eyes off me. Hoping that I wouldn't notice him slowest trying to disappear. It didn't work, I noticed but I would not be going for the obvious which is Theo. He is human and the easiest to take down of all the attackers.
I charged at Benji, jumping up and landing on his shoulders, wrapping my legs around his neck and choking. Mace and Tristan looked amazed and ran over to me and Benji. They were trying to pull me off. I punched Mace in the face, he fell to the floor. Benji’s breaths were getting shorter and shorter, he was going to pass out within the next minute. I threw a punch at Tristan, he blocked it by catching my arm, with both hands. I flew my other fist straight at his face. It caught him square in the temple. He stumbled back releasing me to hold his head. I could feel that Benji was just about to collapse, I unfolded my legs from around his neck. Getting myself ready to make a safe landing for myself and attack my next victim.
Next was Theo although he was the easiest of my attackers to take down. He knew what I could do, he knew what was coming. I ran at him as fast as I could, I slid between his legs and elbowed him in the back of the head. This made Theo lose coordination and balance.
‘I cant f*****g see. Val, What did you do?’
He swung his arms around trying to get a hit in. He started staggering around like he had been on a heavy night out. I easily danced around Theo’s attempts to hit me. I decided that like this he was no longer a threat. He could not hurt me like this. He might have a slight concussion but would quickly make a full recovery.
I caught sight of Mace and charged at him. I jumped grabbing one of his arms and doing a flip over his head. This dislocated his shoulder.
‘AHHH wtf Val.’
‘If I'm doing it I'm going to do it properly I tried not to break it if that helps.’
‘Still hurts though.’ Mace spat through grit teeth. Trying to hide the pain .
‘Tristan you ready.?’ I asked ignoring Maces last comment. Giving Tristan a smug smile.
‘Ive been waiting princess.’ He exclaimed.
I launched myself at Tristan, running at full speed and throwing myself at him smashing into his hard abs. He caught me mid air and threw me across the mats.
‘Oh I’ve been waiting for an actual fight. I have been taking it easy.’ I snapped as I picked myself up from the mats.
‘Have you now Valentine? We shall see how good a fighter you are?’ He questioned me. Was he trying to psych me out?
‘We will see wont we.’ I replied.
Circling each other, each sizing up their operant.
Tristan dived at me. Trying to take our my legs. I jumped over him as he skidded to a stop at my rear. I span around and dived on top of him. Pulling up his leg behind him and twisting his ankle. I pulled on his ankle, my aim to get him to tap out.
‘AHHHH.’ He squealed.
‘You know, you can concede at any time Tristan.’ I chanted.
‘Never!’ He shouted rolling onto his side throwing me off balance.
‘Oh no you don’t. Get back here!’ I adjusted my grip on Tristans ankle twisting and pulling more.
‘One more move and your ankle will snap Tristan.’ I threatened. Tristan tried to push me off him. This only made my grip on his ankle tighter.
‘GET OFF ME VALENTINE’ He screamed in pain. ‘I COMMAND YOU TO GET OFF ME’ Tristan continued.
‘Oh Tristan your dominance will not work on me. In fact I am more dominant than you.’ I whispered. Just so that Tristan could hear.
‘Oh no you are not’ He growled
‘Tristan I really am. I will show you later, If you want. Not here in front of everyone but first you either need to concede or I'm going to snap your ankle.’
‘I WILL NEVER CONCEDE!’
I twisted his ankle more the bones and tendons snapping as I twisted. Tristan screamed out in pain. His ankle twisted the wrong way, the crowd gasping at the sight before them.
‘How did Valentine do that?’ I heard one of them say as I was getting off Tristan, who decided to roll around on the floor in pain. I think he was crying, not that he would anyone to see him cry.
I was the victor of the demonstration. Showing everyone how skilled a fighter I was. Even though I had shattered Tristans ankle and dislocated Maces shoulder. They will heal quickly. Might be slightly pissed that they got beat by a girl, but I was proud of what I had done. I put down 3 supernatural attackers and one highly trained human attacker.
‘Does anyone else want to have a go at taking me down?’ I asked the crowd stood before me. The field was silent, I carried on with my class.
The demonstration took the first hour.
‘I will now assess every member and give them a score out of ten. Ten being the highest number you can achieve, and you cant possibly get any fitter. With one being the lowest number meaning that you are not fit and need a lot of work. If you get a one you will quickly work your way up the numbers towards ten. Does everyone understand me so far?’
No one spoke just nodded that just five minutes ago I had been in a fight with 4 attackers and won. I didn’t even seem to get a sweat on. Whilst I spoke Benji and Theo came to their senses and helped Mace and Tristan to the nurse.
‘We will starts with a run around the field, I want 8 laps of it. I will be assessing how well you do, give it your all and make it to the top of the class. I will run the first lap with you. Setting the pace that I want you to stick too. Are you ready?’
I set off leading the group around the field. For the first lap setting the pace. I pulled out to assess each member.
There were a group of 5 students that stayed at the front of the group. These were a mixture of wolves and humans. I knew what my humans could and couldn't do, so I didn't take much notice of them. It was the vampires and wolves that interested me. I made notes on each member, to help me later when I was planning their training schedule and fitness program. Link stood out the most. He was one of the wolves that came with Benji. He was fit and had good stamina. He didn't need to be in this group.
Once the group had stopped running I pulled Link aside.
‘Link, what are you doing in this group? You are at your peak with fitness and stamina. You don’t need the extra help.’
‘I want to learn new techniques from you Valentine. I have spared with your brother, it was too easy. Don’t get me wrong he is a good fighter but you, you are something else. I hope that one day I get to actually have a proper spar with someone who isn't scared to hurt me. You are the perfect sparing partner. Valentine, would you spar with me? I want to learn some new moves.’
‘Of course I will, I will spar with each student here eventually. You are at the top of my list Link, don’t you worry. If you are a good match for me maybe this can become a weekly thing. First I have a lot of charts and schedules to make, before anything like that can happen. Now if you excuse me, I have a lot of work to get on with.’
‘Of course, Valentine. Would you like any help? I don’t have classes today.’
‘That would be great Link, thank you. But I have Thomas and Callum helping, It wouldn't be fair on the other students if you knew where in the class you were placed. Also if you were seen as being treated any different from everyone else. They might think you are my favourite.’
‘I understand Valentine.’ He sounded disappointed.
‘Maybe next year you can help me run the class. If you work hard enough and prove how good you are. Maybe you will even make the council.’ I smiled at him. Link looked at me a smile emerging from his lips.
‘I would like that.’ He replied.
I turned back to the rest of the group.
‘8 more laps of the field. You have had a few minutes rest, come on lets go.’
The group set off, Link heading the runners, setting the pace. I made more notes of each member. By the end of the session each member had been assessed. I went back to the house to shower, maths class was in an hour.
