I walked back into the house and upstairs into my bedroom. I opened the door and walked in, I noticed a box was left on my bed. I walked over to it and packed up a note that read.
‘These belong to you! We shouldn't have taken them.
We love you!
Mum & Dad
xoxoxo’
I picked up the large red box that was placed on my bed. I opened it to find that there was a single white feather, placed on a bed of black silk, Inside the big red box. I picked up a white feather. Once I touched it a pair of huge wings sprouted from my back.
‘What the f**k!!’
I was spinning around my room slightly panic at what had just happened. My books and pens came crashing off my desk as my wing went past. Next was the bedside table, my lamp fell and shattered on the floor.
Tristan was in the hallway. He knocked on my bedroom door, the door flew open.
‘Valentine, What have you done! Where the hell did they come from? Put them away!’
‘I don’t know I touched a feather that was in that red box then this happened!’
I will still spinning around the room. Panicking when Tristan grabbed me.
“VALENTINE!…. VALENTINE!’
He pulled me in for a hug. In an attempt to calm me down, which worked a little. Tristan was one of those guys who had a calm, level head in most situations. If he was panicking over something you wouldn't know it. He hides things very well, making him hard to read. I nestled my head into Tristans shoulder, I inhaled deeply, taking in the familiar scent of Tristans aftershave. After a few minutes slowly I stopped panicking. My wings stopped thrashing, destroying my bedroom, I was calm.
‘Thank you Tristan. I couldn't have calmed down without you!’ I span around looking at the c*****e which had befallen my room, Tristan looked in horror.
‘It’s ok Valentine, we can clean this up and replace everything that is broke. Come on it wont take long. After we will go and get something to eat, ok?’ His voice was calm and collected, the look on his face gave away that he was lying. This didn't help the way that I was feeling. I chose to ignore it and pick up the broken glass from by bedside lamp. Whilst I did this Tristan picked up all the pens and books from around my desk.
‘Don’t worry about picking all the little bits of glass up Val, I was ask Maggie to come and hoover it before we return from having something to eat.’ I turned and smiled at him. He was being so nice and sweet.
After we had finished picking most of the contenders of my bedroom off the floor I followed Tristan down the hall and entered the dining room. I sat in my big cushioned wooden chair. My wings folded nearly behind me.
‘What would you like to eat?’
‘I would like’ I paused in thought going through all the dishes I liked in my head’
‘Please could I have chicken, bacon and mushroom, egg fried rice?’
“Yes of course you can I will get that made right away for you’
Tristan wondered off into the kitchen. I could hear pots and pans clanging as well as shouting from the chef. Was Tristan trying to cook my food himself? I thought to myself.Tristan stormed out the kitchen, the doors flying open.
‘Rodger is going to make it for you since I am apparently incapable of cooking.’ There was a flash of anger in his eyes. His nostrils started flaring.
‘Thank you for everything today Tristan. You have been a big help. I don’t understand why you are angry?’
‘I wanted to make food for you, but I couldn't work out anything in that kitchen. Give me a gas burner and a pan then I am all good. That kitchen is far to complicated. I have to go calm down. I will be back to check on you later!’
He stormed out of the dining room slamming the door behind him. I could hear him muttering to himself down the hall. A few minutes later the door opened again. It was Thomas, Mace and Callum all heading in for dinner. Mace was the first to notice my wings.
“Val, what are those?’ pointing at the huge white, feathery wings behind me.
‘Well, I am an angel and angels are supposed to have wings. I touched a feather and now I have them so get over it.’ I snapped back, I have had enough of drama and questions today.
‘Someone is touchy today, your new wings put you in a bad mood?’ He teased. He always knew how to cheer me up. That smug smile on his face did it. I could just see it and start smiling.
‘Can I touch them?’ Asked Callum who had been stood shocked with his mouth open for the last 5 minutes. He slowed walked towards me.
‘Umm, sure why not!’
He took a few steps closer reached out his hand. He placed it on my feathery wing, sending shivers down my spine. He ran his hand down the length of my wing, the feeling was incredible. I closed me eyes, trying really hard not to moan. A few seconds later he stopped moving. My eyes flew open. Benji was stood in the doorway, looking directly at me.
‘You have wings!’ I looked at him exasperated.
‘Starting the bleeding obvious there aren't you? How the f**k could you miss them!’
I stood up straight, revealing the full length my wings, they were huge. The spanned wider than my arms. They also dragged on the ground, only slightly though. I tried to stretch them out. Slowly my wings stretched, getting longer and longer soon my wings were longer than the dining room table.
Rodger came out with my rice at this point, he walked straight out the kitchen door and into a strange sight.
‘Umm. Miss Valentine. I have your rice!’
‘Thank you Rodger.’ I retracted my wings and span around.
‘Miss Valentine, Can I ask you a question? Do you have wings or are my meds playing up?’
Rodger is human, He has no idea about the supernatural world. Years ago humans use to be bred to be servants. Having servants now days isn’t a bad thing, but when you have to compel your servants, making them this they are going mad or on medication. I don’t like it, I think it is wrong. You should be given the choice whether you want to serve the supernatural or not.
‘Yes, Rodger. I do have wings. Thank you for my rice. It smells delicious.’
Thomas sighed.
‘Off we go to Camilla, Rodger. Get your mind wiped.’
‘I don’t want my mind wiped. I think it is beautiful miss valentine has wings. She looks like an angel now.’
‘How do you know that she is an angel?’
‘Do you really think that Camilla wipes my mind every time I go to see her. I know about the supernatural world. I knew what miss Valentine was before she even attended this school. I have been Camilla’s eyes when she hasn't been around. Do you not think that it is strange that a servant has a bedroom in the upper part of the house. When the rest of the staff have to live downstairs?’
‘I didn't know you even stayed in the house. I suppose it does make sense now, Why you are always around. I still think we should go and see Camilla.’ Thomas replied.
‘Very well master Thomas. If you insist but shall I finish dinner off for you first or are you happy to wait?’
‘Please finish dinner first. You know we cant cook. Well, Val can but she is eating.’ Benji whined.
‘Very well. Please excuse me’ Rushing back off into the kitchen.
I sat enjoying my rice. Beginning to get use to my wings and I was starting to fully relax. Starting to forget about them all together, my mind distracted by how good my rice tasted.
‘Um… Val. Where have your wings gone?’ Thomas asked, looking shocked. I looked around the room. Everyone was staring at me, the sam expression on their faces. Shock.
‘I don’t know’ I tried to pull my wings out again. The popped out my back, spreading the length of the table, as they stretched out.
‘Now they are back out!’ Thomas yelled.
I concentrated. Imagining folding my wings in and pulling them into my back. I opened my eyes, the look on Thomas’s face said it all. It looked like his was going to pass out, he had completely drained of colour, with that Thomas hit the floor. The boys all laughed at Thomas for passing out. All but Callum, he knew Thomas the best, knew it would have taken a lot to make Thomas pass out.
‘Thats enough!’ He commanded. The room fell silent. The power radiating off Callum, was unseen before.
‘Help me get him to his room!’ Callum ordered the rest of the boys where were stood there in silence, no one moved. Still in shock that Callum was giving them orders. Callum was Tristans second but he was normally a very quiet guy, who wasn't really seen.
‘Mace grab his legs. Benji, grab his arms. ‘ Both boys obeyed the order. Callum lead the group out of the dining room and down the hall towards Thomas’s bedroom, opening doors.
I followed the group making sure that they didn't drop Thomas. Once we entered His room it was like nothing I had ever seen All these stories we were told as children were all a lie. Vampires sleeping in coffins was a lie. In the middle of the room was a huge four poster bed, framed with curtains drooping down from each poster. The room was modern and stylish. I thought Thomas’s room would have been dark and dingy as well as gothic, a typical vampire lair. However I had been pleasantly surprised, who knew that Thomas had such good taste.
The boys led Thomas on his bed, he looked peaceful, he looked dead. I suppose that Thomas was technically dead, I have never really thought about it that much. We all vacated the room, headed towards the door when I turned back to make sure that Thomas was ok. He was gone, the bed was empty.
‘Umm, GUYS!!! Where is Thomas? I shouted as they were already halfway down the hallway.
‘He is on his bed. We just put him there.’ Callum replied.
‘He is gone! Come see!’ The boys ran the short distance back up the hall, Callum was the first to re-enter the room. The look on his face said it all. He was worried.
‘What! Where has he gone?’ There was a hiss from above us. Thomas was on the ceiling. His eyes glowing red.
‘Thomas, my friend please come down so we can talk?’ Callum pleaded.
‘The girl is mine. Valentine Edwards will be mine. I will have her! I have been waiting all this time.’
The voice coming from Thomas’s mouth didn't sound like Thomas, it sounded old and dark. Thomas fell from the ceiling on top of me. Digging his fangs into my neck, there was a sharp stabbing pain just above my collar bone, before I had any chance to react to Thomas, he was soon pulled off by Callum. Pinned to the wall by Mace and Benji, whilst Callum checked my neck.
‘What have you done Thomas?’ His eyes flew towards Thomas filled with anger.
‘She tastes sweet. You know what they say about angel blood don’t you boy! It gives you powers. I will be the most powerful vampire to have ever walked this earth.’
‘Valentine, are you ok? Does it hurt?’ He said his gaze landing back onto my neck. It was clearly making him uncomfortable, the sight of my blood. I raised my hand to cover it, hoping to make it easier for him.
Thomas launched himself at me again. He didn't make it far though he was pinned back by Mace and Benji.
‘Valentine, Run, Go to Tristans room. Shut the door. Please do not come out until I have told you so!’ Callum ordered.
I left the room and ran to Tristans room, ignoring the shouts and curses coming from behind me.
