Chapter Four

831 Words
My first few days at my new place of work weren't really that bad, apart from the person who seems to be the leader of the pack and who doesn't seem to take a liking to me. He takes every chance to make my work miserable at the house. The other day, he poured the coffee I made on my foot. I was scared for my safety at that moment, thinking he might pour the tea on me. That day, he made me make the tea more than ten times. "Menlinda, I have told you on several occasions and several times today, I do not like my tea with much milk in it," he said. I stood looking at him in amazement; the tea before him barely had any milk in it. This was the fourth time today. I carried the now empty cup to the kitchen. I have contemplated leaving so many times, but leaving wasn't an option. My bills won't pay themselves, and I loved the children, and everyone else treated me nicely except for the alpha. I have to be strong for the children and myself. Even though I had a lot of questions about this place, I had no answers or possible way of getting the answers to these questions unless I lived amongst them. When I took down the fourth cup of tea to his office, the door which was opened before was now closed, and I could hear some noise in the office. I knocked on the door, but the force opened the door easily. There I saw Felix making out with Mary, one of the members who lives in the house. I was shocked as the tea almost fell from my hand. I quickly excused myself from there, going about my daily activities. I was in the kitchen cleaning up after the main chef when Mary came into the kitchen. I wasn't really bothered about her presence as she never spoke to me on any occasion. I have not heard her say anything. I kept on cleaning the counters. "I know you like him, with the way you look at him every time at dinner"... who knows if the almighty Mary notices me. "I do not know what you are talking about." "You know what I am talking about, I have seen you look at him." "Listen to me, he is mine and mine alone, no one can take him away from me." I was pissed at her, not that I am claiming ownership of a man who clearly hates the sight of me. But the fact that she would confront me over a man, "Miss Mary, with all due respect, I do not know what you're driving at, I am always doing my job," I said as she turned to leave the kitchen. "Well, it is just a warning to you, I do not want to see you anywhere close to Felix, any day I catch you anywhere close to Felix... I will rip out your throat and throw it to the dogs to feast on." As she said these words, I saw the realness of her anger. An eyeball turned into a wolf eye and she wolfed slowly like a wolf... I jumped back in fear as my hand hit the knife on the other side of the kitchen counter. I held my hand in pain from the impact of the knife. "What have I gotten myself into," Mary left the kitchen without caring that I was bleeding from the cut of the knife. Fortunately, Eric came in just in time to see me bleeding. He helped stop the bleeding, and I was rushed to the hospital. I spent the better part of the week in the hospital, hence my absence from work. When Jenifa came around to check up on me, she told me how everyone missed me and would love for me to come back to work. "Melinda, you're looking better now, everyone misses you..." "Hi Jenifa, yeah, I'm much better now, all thanks to Eric for coming to my aid." We both smiled and held hands. I felt a connection toward Jenifa like she was my own sister. "Melinda, what really happened to you? How did you cut yourself so deep..." I know calling out Mary wasn't necessary as she didn't even touch me, and I do not want to make more enemies of her. "Was it Mary?" When she asked me, I looked taken aback. Definitely, Mary has a bad reputation. "Eric told me he saw her walking away from the kitchen when he met you in that state." "Oh, no, it wasn't Mary. I was cleaning the counter when I hit my hand on the cabinet, the knife fell right on my hand." I knew within myself it was a lie, but I had to make peace reign. She believed my statement and let it be. But I was surprised when Felix visited me in the hospital.
