Chapter 2: The Underground World

The sharp glass pierced into the other person’s eye, and blood spurted out. Xu Mo didn’t know where the strength came from. He pressed his left hand over the other person’s mouth and forcefully slammed their body to the ground. The other person’s body struggled violently, but Xu Mo pulled out the sharp object and swiftly slashed it across their neck. Blood poured out instantly. The person kicked Xu Mo away, then pressed both hands to their neck, blood continually pouring out. Their throat no longer made any sound, and their body twitched violently before gradually going still. Xu Mo looked at the face, which was filled with despair and fear. His body and arms were trembling, struggling to suppress the nausea rising in his stomach. He dragged the body away from the bedroom door and found a piece of bedcloth to cover the body. Then, he cleaned the blood from both himself and the floor. After finishing everything, Xu Mo leaned back against the old sofa, breathing heavily. His arms still trembled slightly. The danger of this world made him feel a bit scared. "Underground world!" Xu Mo muttered to himself. Only at this moment did he have time to examine his memories and realize that the world he lived in was underground. In the original owner's memories, the upper world was a blank. The only thing he knew was that the upper world was inhabited by big figures. For example, his parents worked at a munitions factory, and the president was supposedly a big figure from the upper world. There were many factories in the underground world, all serving the upper world. However, Xu Mo didn’t share the original owner's belief that the upper world was full of big figures. He simply thought that those who had the power to control resources in the underground world would also be important figures in the upper world. As for the original owner, he worked at Bartu’s general store. In the underground world, the order was extremely chaotic, which explained how such things could happen. “Parallel world, or another cosmic civilization?” Xu Mo thought to himself. Humans were so insignificant compared to the universe. Our exploration of the universe was just a drop in the ocean. Even if there were other civilizations in different universes, Xu Mo wouldn’t find it strange. As Xu Mo sorted through the original owner’s memories, he realized how little the original owner knew about the world. His understanding was limited to the area around him. The place he lived was his entire world. "Hmm?" At this moment, Xu Mo suddenly heard a noise, as if someone was coming toward him. Soon, the sound of footsteps came, and heavy breathing could be clearly heard. "Xu Mo!" A worried voice came from outside. The slightly ajar door was pushed open, and a woman in a beige dress rushed in, panting heavily. A group of people followed her in, their sharp gazes scanning the room. When the woman saw the scene in the room, she gasped, her right hand covering her mouth, her body trembling slightly. "Xu Mo." She looked at Xu Mo, curled up on the sofa, feeling heartbroken. Tears began to fall. "Miss Mia." Xu Mo looked at her and spoke. She was the daughter of Bartu, his boss. In the original owner’s memories, Miss Mia was beautiful, kind-hearted, and had a wonderful voice. She sang beautifully, and the original owner had always had a secret crush on her, but he was very self-conscious around her and never dared to speak much. "I’m sorry, I came too late." Mia said sadly, unable to imagine what Xu Mo had gone through. "I’m from the Enforcement Team. Do you remember what happened? Who is the killer?" A man who had come with Mia crouched down to examine the body and then looked at Xu Mo. Xu Mo tried to recall the scattered memories in his mind, shook his head, and said with confusion, "I have a headache. I seem to have forgotten." The man glanced at Xu Mo's head, where there was a noticeable wound, still covered in blood. It was a miracle that he survived. "Can’t remember anything? What about your parents' deaths? Do you know anything? Did you offend anyone?" The man continued to ask. "This is crucial for the investigation. You want to find the killer, don’t you?" Xu Mo pretended to recall, then, as if in pain, pressed his hand to his head and shook it. "I don’t know, I can’t remember anything." The man smiled nonchalantly, stood up, and didn’t continue interrogating. "We’ll take the body, and we’ll investigate the matter further." After a few other people entered the room and glanced around, they began to carry the body out without Xu Mo's permission. They were members of the Enforcement Team. The underground world didn’t lack order, but ordinary people were at the mercy of the powerful. Xu Mo glanced at the person who spoke. That person couldn’t even be bothered to offer a polite excuse. But that was to be expected. The order in the underground world was established by the “big figures.” The president of the munitions factory had a very high position in the underground world. Otherwise, no one would dare to carry out a murder so openly. Moreover, Xu Mo knew that before his parents died, they had visited the Enforcement Team. There was something hidden in all this, but he didn’t know what it was, so he dared not speak about it. Xu Mo didn’t stop them because he had no ability to do so. Moreover, he couldn’t handle a body, especially not one he had killed. In the bedroom, Xiao’er peeked her head out and watched everything, softly sobbing, though she seemed to be trying hard to hold it in, wiping away the tears with her little hands. "Xiao’er." Xu Mo walked over, holding Xiao’er in his arms, watching as they carried the body out.
