6: My Hands Will End Him

1490 Words
NYSERA The carriage rocked gently as it moved through the way towards the prison where they are going to cage us like animals. My family and I were cramped between the piles of used weapons — most of them still slicked with blood. Their coppery stench lingered in the air that made me want to throw up. I shifted my wrists, trying to loosen the grip of the chains that are now scratching on my skin painfully. But no matter how hard I try, I can't even budge it an inch. All that I can do is stand there and wait for the life of s*****y to come. My eyes shifted towards the small and only hole that the carriage has. It's so small that even my fist can't fit on it. The light seeping through the hole isn't enough for us to see properly what's outside. Like a reminder that freedom is out there, but we are chained, bound, and endeserving of it. "Nysera," Papa spoke, calling me. "Sit down now. You will lose energy if you keep on standing." I let out a heavy sigh. In the end, I slumped on the wooden floor of the carriage with my shoulders down. A lot of things happened today, but in the end, we are still alive. But is it worth it? Is it worth it to live if we will be prisoners? I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself down. I don't even know what was in my mind when I told that man about my power. Desperation? Most probably. I never wanted to die this early, and not at least in the way where unknown warriors cut your head off. "Mama, where are we going?" Natan asked, his poor little hands also chained. Those merciless werewolves didn't even give an ounce of consideration to the children. Mama moved closer to him, using her chained hands to caress his cheeks — something that I wouldn't be able to do to anyone. "We're going to a new pack, but we won't have a home anymore." "The scary man said we will be put in prison. Am I a criminal, Mama?" Niko asked, his eyes starting to form tears before he sniffed and tried to stop it from falling. "No, my little pup is not a criminal," Mama hurriedly comforted him. "We are not a part of their pack, and they need to place us away from others." I know that Mama is trying hard to explain this complex situation to my brothers. Honestly, I wouldn't know how to do that. I don't know how to make this unfortunate event less painful through words. The travel time was so long, at least based on my sense of time. My brothers had already fallen asleep when I noticed the carriage stop, and the intense hot temperature covered the environment. "Put them to the dungeon," someone's voice ordered before the carriage opened. The hot wind almost burned my skin, and it didn't help that they pulled us out without any care. "Is that..." My words trailed off as I saw what surrounds us. A tall volcano emitting a little smoke is standing in front of us, and on the foot of it is a seat engraved on the volcano itself. The cruel alpha sits on the engraved seat on the volcano, not minding even if the volcano looks like it's going to erupt anytime. He just relaxed there with a wine on his hand, wearing a thick coat, as if the extreme temperature in the territory is nothing to him. As the warriors dragged us to the prison, I placed one last look at the Alpha. I want to remember the face of the person who ruined everything. "Let me go!" a man with only one eye shouted from one of the cells in the dungeon. He put his arm out between the railings of the cell, trying to reach the guards. "It's a set up! Let me go!" One of the guards mercilessly hit his arm with a bat, sending the man screaming with pain because of the dislocated bone. Other prisoners became wilder, screaming at the guards while shaking the railings. Even if they shout louder, the guards don't give a damn to them. They would just hit the prisoners over and over again until they shut up. Some would throw water to the prisoners, or open their cells before pinning them to the ground and abusing them over and over again. I looked away. I don't want to see how cruel they are, and what might happen to us. Just looking at the faces of these guards makes me scared, not for myself, but for my family. The guards threw us to one of the closed cells with only a small railing that serves as the door. It's not as open as the other cells, but one can still see the inside if they're standing on the entrance. It's like they're giving us privacy while making sure they can monitor us. Quite hypocritical. "The alpha wants you to go to his office," a guard threw a set of clothes at me. "Hurry up. Alpha doesn't like waiting." When the cell was locked, I immediately picked up the clothes and hurried to change. I need to move fast, because I'm sure that one wrong move and I will be punished — and worse, my family will be affected too. "Sister, your number," Niko pointed at my chest when I removed my polo shirt. My eyes moved down to look at my chest. Fear crept into my nerves as I realized what happened to my mark. Seven. The mark changed. Again. I hurriedly wore the shirt given by the guard to hide my mark, before I hit my chest gently. "This is nothing," I spoke while giving a small smile to my brother. "Don't worry." "Why did it change again?" Papa asked with worry. "It was 8 just this morning, right? Did something happen?" I shook my head. "I don't know, Papa," I answered while I stood up and changed my lower clothes. "It's nothing." I tried to stay calm, but I know from their look that they can feel it - that they can see through my lie. "No," Papa stood up, and Mama followed him. "We need to find out why that mark is going down. That's not normal, Nysera. What if something happens when that reaches zero?" "We don't even know why it happens, Papa. And we don't know what will happen if it reaches zero. I don't know why you're freaking out," I responded, turning my back to them. I can't show them that I'm scared, because I know that it will make everything worse. I need to show that this doesn't affect me, even if deep inside, I'm shaking and uncertain. "That is why we are afraid, Nysera. Because we don't know what it is," Papa replied. “We need to know it, before everything’s too late.” I let out a deep breath. I can't fight or argue with my family, especially now that we are in an unfamiliar place. We need to be united, and I can't be the reason why we fall. "Let's talk about this later," I calmly said. "I can't keep the alpha waiting." I headed to the door and the guard opened it for me. I was chained once again, and two guards brought me to the office of their alpha. On the way, I didn't dare to look at anyone. I kept my fist close, and my eyes on the ground. "Don't anger the alpha if you still want to live," one of the guards spoke as he slowly opened the door to the office. I was pushed inside, and the alpha standing near the window greeted me by raising the glass on his hand. He turned to me with a blank stare, and his other hand made me come closer to him. "You said you can see how someone will die," the alpha spoke before putting down the glass. "I want to see if you're telling the truth. Go on. Use your power on me." I looked up at him, my insides coiling with fear and nervousness. And my wolf - she is starting to lose control. The scent of her mate being just a touch away made her more uncontrollable. With my chain and trembling hands, I reached with hesitation and uncertainty. The moment my palm landed at the back of his hand, visions started to enter my eyes once again. Painful. Blinding. Corrupting. September 9. Two years from now. A woman stood with dark power emitting from her body - her hands wrapped around the alpha’s throat. Her eyes - pitch black and devoid of emotion. Her touch - rotted him alive as he screamed while decaying from the inside. And that woman… is me.
