The moment my eyes made contact with the creature's, its tail ceased its wagging and it sat up. I was still in Ace's embrace, my head against his chest and not feeling the heartbeat that was meant to be there. When the wolf turned around and made some motion to leap away, I quickly moved away from Ace and hurried in its direction.
"Odette! Where are you going?" I heard Ace call out from behind me but I didn't give him a response or turn around to see him running towards me. I picked up the pace because I wanted to catch up to the wolf which was obviously faster than I was. I didn't want to lose sight of it as it ran in between trees and a few feet up some branches to gain enough ground as to leap further away from me.
