Chapter 1 :He Looked Through Me
I was still wearing my wedding ring when the doctor told me my husband had lost his memory.
“He remembers nothing from the past two years,” the doctor said gently, his voice low, careful. “We’re sorry.”
Nothing.
The word echoed in my head as I stood outside the VIP hospital room, my fingers tightening around the small paper cup of cold coffee I hadn’t touched.
Two years.
That was exactly how long we had been married.
I pushed the door open slowly, my heart pounding so loudly I was sure everyone in the hallway could hear it.
He was sitting upright on the bed, dressed in a white hospital gown, his sharp features pale but still devastatingly handsome. Black hair, familiar eyes, the face I had kissed a thousand times in secret.
My husband.
“Ethan,” I whispered.
He turned toward me.
And then… he frowned.
“Do I know you?”
The cup slipped from my hand, hitting the floor with a dull splash. Hot coffee soaked into my shoes, but I felt nothing.
I forced a smile, even as my chest felt like it was being crushed. “It’s me,” I said softly. “Lina.”
He studied my face like I was a puzzle he had no interest in solving.
“I don’t remember you,” he said flatly.
The words were sharper than any knife.
Before I could speak again, the door opened behind me.
“Ethan!”
A beautiful woman rushed in, her heels clicking urgently against the floor. She threw herself into his arms without hesitation, tears streaming down her face.
“I was so scared,” she cried. “Don’t ever do that to me again.”
He wrapped his arms around her instinctively.
“It’s okay,” he murmured. “I’m fine now.”
I stood there, invisible.
The woman finally noticed me and frowned. “Who’s she?”
Ethan followed her gaze, his expression cold and distant. “I was about to ask the same thing.”
I opened my mouth, my heart screaming the truth.
Before I could say a word, he spoke again.
“If you’re here to see me,” he said calmly, “you can leave now. My fiancée doesn’t like strangers hanging around.”
Fiancée.
My wedding ring suddenly felt heavier than a chain.
I nodded slowly, afraid that if I spoke, I would break completely.
“I’ll go,” I whispered.
As I turned away, my vision blurred with tears.
He didn’t stop me.
He didn’t call my name.
And just like that, the man I married forgot me…
while another woman took my place.
