Chapter 2

447 Words
When I get home, I notice a text message on my phone from Jason. *Been thinking about the next time I get to see you. Thinking of a crowded place…* I text him back. *Trying to make it harder for me to run away?* I put the phone down on my kitchen counter after a few minutes it beeps. I take out a bottle of water and walk to my lounge as I open the message. *You can see right through my plan.* *Not just a pretty face.* I’m flirting! What on earth am I doing? *Much more than a pretty face…What do you like to do?* *Read. Watch movies. You?* *Movies definitely. Not much of a reader. Love working on my car but it is a messy business.* *I bet. You home?* *Just got here. You?* *Yeah on my couch. It’s getting late.* *I’ll stop bothering you if you want to go to bed.* *You’re not bothering me.* *Glad to hear it. What are you doing tomorrow?* *Work...* *After work?* *Don’t have any plans.* *Want to go out?* I don’t reply immediately, eventually things will escalate and I’m not sure if I am ready to be with someone in that way. My phone beeps and I check the message. *Are you planning on running?* I have met a man that understands me and can get me out of my bubble. Should I just be completely honest with him? *Yes.* *Don’t. I have never met anyone that I had an instant connection with.* *Same but I’m scared. It’s been so long.* *Just go with it, don’t overthink it. I’m sure it’s worse in your head than it actually is. I know you don’t want to get hurt again but you can’t spend the rest of your life hiding.* *Who is not just a pretty face now…* *Glad you think I’m pretty...ego stroked.* *You’re silly.* *You have no idea.* I check the time; it’s nearly midnight, my goodness, what a day. *I have to go to bed now.* *Me too I guess but I’m not tired.* *Me neither but if I don’t I won’t be able to function tomorrow.* *Good night, Rebecca. Sweet dreams.* *Sweet dreams, Jason.*   *** I wake and feel happy and excited. The morning tasks flow smoothly and I am having a good day. I received a text from Jason after lunch. I’ve been so busy I skipped lunch. *Didn’t see you at the diner. You okay?* *Hectic day at work. Not avoiding you.* *That is a relief. Want to go somewhere with me later?* *Where?* *It’s a surprise but I promise there will be other people. Some can even kick my ass if needed.* *What time?* *Can I pick you up at the diner after work?* *I would rather meet you.* *Big Jim’s Gym. Can’t wait.* He wants to take me to the gym, isn’t it weird? I try not to think about it as I go on with my day.
