Leaving New York
“Mom, do we really have to leave?", I asked my mother while biting a the slice of pizza on my hand. All of a sudden, my parents decides to leave New York and doesn’t tell me why. My life in New York is already established, and I really can’t miss the scholarship to Cambridge University. “Yes, we really have to, we don’t have any other option.” My mother replied after gulping the water from the glass. “But, it’s my last year of high school, you know I really want to graduate here. And haven’t we planned this before? That I will only leave this place when I go to college?” “No. If you worry about the scholarship to Cambridge, I believe you are very able to go without that scholarship. And besides your father have already enrolled you to the academy so, you don’t have much of a choice,” my mother says. I heard the finality in her voice. “Yeah I know but I really like it here, can I just stay here?” I insisted as I enjoy the savor of the pizza in my mouth. Walking toward the sink after I finished the pizza. “That my child will never happen, things like before would happen again. Did you packed your clothes?” I actually have this kidnap incidence, it was also bacause of their line of job. They were worried so bad that time, but it only took a couple of hours to capture the kidnapper. My father that time was locating a spy on the government and he was so close figuring it out. The spy is actually watching my father’s moves so when he knew is found, decided to take me in exchange that my father would let him leave the city. It was a foolish decision to take me with him though. I have this tracker with me which my father gave and I activated it. “Yeah, when are we leaving then?” Conversations like this doesn’t give me any other choices. I know it’s about their job that we have to leave. “Tomorrow darling. So you better say goodbye to your friends for this day,” she said then went to her room. Always avoiding questions mother. Well, I have friends to talk to. And I’m missing them right now. I picked up my phone and sent them a message telling to meet me at the park. But, I need to fix myself first, meeting them with my rumbled hair is never best for me. After half an hour, I’m finally presentable to meet my friends. Wearing a black tank top, ripped jeans, wedged shoes, I walked out of my room grabbing my favorite leather jacket with me. I contemplated walking or riding to the park but finally chose to ride my motorcycle, I don’t have time to spare when I know it will be my last day on New York. Upon arriving at the park, I saw Averil sitting on the bench looking at her watch. Parking my bike, I hurried to meet my friend. “Hey Ave, the watch won’t tell how wrecked your face is,” I told her with a laugh “Oh sure it won’t but it will tell how will I wreck your face for making me wait,” she stands up to give me a hug as she always do. This girl always doesn't like waiting. Ironically, she's always the early bird. “I bet you can’t, my face is such a beauty you can’t destroy,” I respond and went to the bench to sit. She laughs as she follows and sit next to me. “So, what’s the rush to call us here?” “Well I’m moving and surely I won’t graduate here,” “What! That sucks!” shouts a voice from behind us. “I thought I could only say goodbye to Ave, but look at you two, you manage to arrive just in time,” I said to Lena and Tuck who are approaching us. “Hey, I saw that, how long have you been dating?” Ave teased them. Those two are crazily inlove but Tuck never tried his gut to confess, now look at the wasted time. They could have been dating since the 8th grade if he just told it earlier. He could only wait ‘til Lena will break up with her boyfriend now ex and watch painfully. But look at the lovebirds. “Well, he was the one to find out that the asshole is cheating on me,” she replies as she looks at Tuck. “And how thankful I am, he was there. But it took him long enough to finally found his balls and punch that cheating bastard.” “I’m sorry babe, I just thought you don’t like me so I just stayed away and watch,” “Coward, I was waiting for you,” she said and gave Tuck a kiss. “Now you little lady, what do you mean moving away and not graduating here?” Her forefinger pointing directly at me, looking like a mad woman. I was okay saying goodbye to Ave except this insane woman infront of me right now. “Maybe I shouldn’t have call you here and just moved without telling you, I knew you would cry nonstop,” They have been my friends since 3rd grade, we were together with every crazy things. There were even times that they have to sneak me out just so we could attend a party. My parents are really strict and they found out. My father punished us to do 100 push-ups, it was easy for me but Ave and Lena couldn’t finish it. Even after that, they would dare help me sneak out. “I’m sure Lena would hunt you down to where you moved out though,” Tuck said. “But why now, it was the last year of highschool, and I thought you want to graduate here?” Ave asked “My parents gave me less of a choice, you know what they threat me with when I disobey. Of all the missions they can take me with, they decided to take me with them now.” My parents would always threat me with forcing me join the military if I disobey because they know that I don’t want to. Although the military punishments they give me everytime I don’t follow them made me eligible for military, I still don’t want to. My dream profession is not to be on battlefield. “How about the scholarship to Cambridge?” Lena asked “My mom just said I could enter no matter what.” “Well true, you have the brains and money” “I don’t really understand why I have to go with them, I can already take care of myself. What use of giving me those military punishment?” I rant. They always leave me behind when they go to their missions, even when they have to leave the country. I wonder why. “Well, we can’t do anything about it, I don’t want to run a mile or do 100 push-ups if we go against them,” Ave break the silence. “And maybe we could go somewhere today before you leave,” she continues “Yes, the club!” Lena exclaimed, giggling so hard. “Maybe for a short time, I have to pack.” I only have packed my clothes. “Let’s go, yaayy!” After an hour at the club, I left. It wasn’t actually the first time that I will be far away with my friends but, this will be the first time that I will be gone for too long. As soon as I arrived home, I made sure to check is my important things are packed. I know it would be a long trip tomorrow.
