I woke up Monday morning with a smile on my face. I don’t know why, but strangely, I do. Even my mom said that I seem strange, but who cares? I am feeling happy today and I like it.
The first class on Monday is just to begin. The students were still whispering to each other. And me feeling happy, I just focused on my book and immerse in it.
As I am enjoying the story, I can’t help but smile on the funny scenes. I don’t care if anyone is looking at me thinking that I’m crazy.
“Hey beauty, you seem strange. It’s like you’re different.” I didn’t notice Charise getting near me. But I just gave her a shrug.
“It’s even more strange to see you smiling nonstop,” she commented on me again. Even I myself don’t know why I am smiling like crazy.
“And I feel like I am seeing a different person today,” she said again and it made me remove my sight from the book I’m reading and look at her. She’s intently looking at me, observing every move that I make.
“Just enjoy it while it last, because I don’t even know why I’m like this,” I replied in defeat of her stare and smiled to her. I watched how she gaped, and it made me chuckle.
“That even sounds more dangerous. And I’m wondering what happened to you,” she said again, but I just smiled and read again.
“Maybe you’re cursed by a powerful witch. Maybe the real you was abducted and the one I am with today is a clone,” she mumbles. I still can feel her stare to me but I ignored it. Later, she fell silent and started doodling on her notebook.
The story is getting exciting. The female lead is about to find out the traitor who is actually her sister. I am wondering if how she would handle the truth. It was her own blood, the person she relied on since she was a kid who chose to reveal the female lead’s identity to the enemy. I can’t imagine how much pain she will feel if she find out the truth.
“Today, we are going to have a surprise quiz.”
I raised my head to see what’s the sudden noise about. My classmates are complaining about something. It was probably something that our teacher said.
“I don’t want to hear complains, just bring out your paper!” Ms. Moore said with an angry tone that made my classmates comply.
I still don’t know what’s happening. I look around the room and everyone have their own paper on their desk.
“I really don’t know what’s happening to you. First you’re smiling and now you’re out of focus,” Charise said as she put a paper on my desk and gave me a ballpen.
“There’s a surprise quiz, so better focus,” she warned me.
“Okay,” I just reacted.
“What was the name of the research ship Charles Darwin with?” Ms. Moore asked the first question of the quiz. I smiled and wrote the answer.
The question went on as Ms. Moore is making a trip around the classroom, making sure that nobody is cheating. When she left the first row, some of my classmates were asking their seatmates. I shook my head, typical.
I look around, some were having a hard time recalling the answer to the questions Ms. Moore is asking. Some were quick to write the answer on their paper, but they scribble different answers on their paper. I recognize it through the movement of their pen.
Ms. Moore stopped at the queen’s desk. She gave a peek to her paper, I can see the glint on her eyes. She has high expectations from the queen. With that thought, I wonder what are the responsibilities of being the Campus Queen.
“Now, this is an easy question. Who was the first man to walk on the moon?” Ms. Moore look at the note she’s holding, and started moving again.
“When was Pearl Harbor bombed?” Ms. Moore is already approaching towards me while I write December 7, 1941 on my paper. Just as what she did on Kristel, she gave a glance on my paper too.
“Well done Ms. Fern,” she said to me. I suppose that’s a compliment. After saying that, she walked to the front as she asks the last question.
“On my count, pass your papers in order,” and she began counting starting from 10. I followed the sequence and by the count of 1, Ms. Moore already had the papers on her hand.
“You know Kristel was staring at you during the quiz,” Charise said to me as she eat her fries. We were currently siting under the shade of the tree.
“Why would she?”
“You know Ms. Moore used to say those words to her, but instead, she said it to you, she probably is jealous,”
I don’t see why the fairytale queen would feel jealous. The quiz was easy. I know Ms. Moore is just testing our knowledge, and besides she said that all the questions on the quiz were from the past lessons they had during their lower grade.
“And your lover boy is approaching our table,” Charise said as she nudge me. I put down the book I’m reading and look where Charise is looking.
A little far from us, Tredon is approaching with his friends. I grinned as I remember me punching his friends.
“Hi gorgeous,” he greeted when he was close enough.
I am secretly laughing because his friends were staying at his back. I’m so thankful I am not smiling right now because he might get a wrong message.
“I will not apologize to them,” I said referring to his friends.
“It our fault to block your way that time, I’m Mason by the way,” his friend said, stepping out from his back.
“This ones brave,” I commented and grab my book to read. I don’t want to talk to them.
“I am very sorry about last time. It won’t happen again.” Tredon said and I just nod. I want to finish the book and I don’t want to be disturbed.
Charise noticed the way how I reacted. Being the friendly one as I know she is, she motioned the boys to sit. Carrying my book, I climbed the tree. I can hear Charise talking to them, asking their name and some random questions. Deep inside, I am glad they are getting along and thankful for Charise, she knows I’m going to dodge them. As for me, I want to have silence so I could read my book.
