Chapter 3

"Do you really think we can save the world?" Indron looks at me curiously before looking at all the elemental houses. "I hope so, or else all those children died without reason." He laughs at his own joke and my face scowls in disgust. "How can you..." I stalk towards him as my anger rages inside me. Indron watches me as Ellie and Mellie run back to the house. I see a bubble circle around me in the center, as I'm about to reach him. "Let it out Lia." Indron says as a burning starts to consume every inch of me. "What's happening?" My anger turns into fear as he watches me with a smile on his face. "I always had to manipulate the others a little more into a frenzied state but it seems you'll be easier than the rest." "You're doing this to me?" "The serum I spent years working on, that I injected into you is what's doing this." My eyes lock onto him as I suddenly collapse. The burning starts to turn my hands red as my eyes sear in pain. "You're like him." He says as he crouches down and gazes into my eyes that are filled with hatred. "You'll be a great asset in the coming days." I didn't understand what he was saying until I catch a glimpse of my red eyes in the bubbles reflection of me. "I'm a monster." I try to stand and back away from my reflection as fire shoots from my hands. "You got any other tricks." I hear Indron say as tears start pouring down my face. It makes the fire burn hotter, yet the bubble resists my flame. "You must calm down and focus now." "What have you done to me?" I start shaking my head and collapse as my back hits the edge of the bubble. "Another ability?" He says as the flames fade and I start to glow. "You really are like him." "I thought he was a strange mutation but perhaps once I have each of you in the elements, I'll be able to make real head way in saving our world." "Who is he?" I ask as I rotate my arms and look at the strange glow. "You'll find out soon enough." The glow starts to fade as the doctor writes a few things down on his clear pad. "It seems it will be dormant for now but I'll have to give you a bracelet to monitor you." "Monitor me?" "Yeah, with abilities like yours, you could end up killing the sisters." My eyes widen as he seems to think I'm dangerous. "I doubt you would as it takes great emotion to illicit your powers but you may just try and kill me, even he tried to in the beginning." He whispers the last part yet I hear it as he puts the pad in his pocket. "Now put this on." The bubble opens a hole as he draws a circle in it. He slips a bracelet through before waving his hand down, closing it. "I would remove the bubble completely but I know you kids all too well." "Many of you have tried to either kill me or escape." "Neither have ever been successful by the way." He then turns to walk away, leaving me in the bubble. "You can't leave me in here." "I won't." "I just need to be in safe distance before I let you out." He waves his hand over the ground and a clear box comes up from the ground. He enters inside and I watch as it lifts up, out of the bubble to somewhere high and out of sight. It's when it's gone that the bubble around me disappears. I hesitantly straighten myself out before walking around the bubble. Mellie and Ellie run towards me and engulf me in a hug. "I'm sorry." Ellie says before they both let go. "We all have to go through that test." "We would have warned you but the doctor gets angry if we don't follow his orders." "Test?" "He was seeing what your abilities would be." "I thought this bubble neutralizes our abilities." "It does unless the doctor turns off the machines that make it possible." "He then puts you in a small bubble and gets you angry so that your element comes to the surface." "Why did he keep going on about how I'm like "him." "Who is this "him"?" "He said that?" Ellie gasps as Mellie's eyes widen. "There's yet to be another like him." They start to whisper amongst themselves. I stare at them in anticipation. "Are you going to tell me?" "We can't." Mellie speaks up as Ellie frowns. "I can tell you that your abilities are rare." "You're in the 1% of people who have them." "What does that mean?" "You got the full spectrum of the fire element." "The doctor told you about Ellie and I and how specific our abilities are, well yours are all of what we have." "While we get a 50/50 chance of getting one thing or another, you got a 100% chance of having the fire element." "What it means is you're more powerful than us, yet also more dangerous if he's anything to go by." "He?" I ask once again and Mellie slaps a hand over Ellie's mouth. "It will just be hard to control is all." Mellie then drags Ellie with her, out of the bubble as I decide to head back with them. I feel the warmth of the lava through the rock path as I get to the house. "Don't mention him again." I hear Mellie scolding Ellie as I enter and their voices are then hushed as they must hear me closing the door. "Dinner is served." I hear as a voice seems to bounce off the walls, in an echo. "The doctor also speaks to us through the walls." Mellie says as she walks past me, into what must be the dinning room. "Come have food." Ellie says excitedly as she grabs my arm and leads me towards Mellie. I walk through and see a lot of strange foods on the table. "You've never had fruit or salad, have you?" Mellie asks as Ellie sits beside her and I stare in awe. I thought plant life was gone but it seems these people are hoarding it. I sit down and suddenly think of my parents and how they struggled to give me food. I feel guilt eat away at me as I know they'll be having the same stew made of grains and whatever rare meat they may find. We'd try to spice it up with sugar and spices, yet it never tasted any better. "This isn't fair." I say as Mellie and Ellie have already started eating. "Our families starve as we eat like this?" "It's just the way it is." Mellie says as Ellie frowns. "I used to hate it too." Ellie says and Mellie gives her a stern look. "We can't turn it down though or else the doctors may come in, put us under and force feed us." "They do that?" I ask and Mellie continues to eat as Ellie sniffles. "I refused for a few days in the beginning and Mellie told me never to do it again." As this is said, I decide to follow with them and eat. It may be because Mellie seemed irritated by my behavior or it was because I wanted to taste these foods before I die.
