Chapter 1:The Pool
The pool lights were blue. The music was too loud. I was wearing the red dress he bought for me — the one he said made me look like his wife.
"Wait for me in the VIP room, Mimi," Jaden had whispered, his hand on my waist. "Tonight I will finally make you mine. Forever."
I believed him. Like a fool.
I held two glasses of champagne, my heart beating so fast. I wanted to tell him I was ready. That I loved him. That he was my first and only.
I pushed the glass door open.
And I saw him. In the pool. With her. Vanessa. His ex-girlfriend. Her legs wrapped around his waist. His hands tangled in her wet hair. Kissing her like he was starving — the same way he used to kiss me behind the office.
The glasses slipped from my hands. Shattered.
He looked up. Saw me standing there, shaking, tears already running.
And he smiled. A cold, cruel, heartless smile.
"Oh. Mimi. You came early."
Early? I came early to my own heartbreak.
I ran. I ran out of that club with my red dress torn and my heart in pieces. That night I cried until there was nothing left. That night, Mimi the stupid girl who believed in forever died.
One year later, I am back in Port Harcourt. Not as the broke intern girl who loved him. But as Miss M. C. — the new CEO of Starlight Media. The woman who just bought the company that will destroy his.
Jaden Cole thought he drowned me in his lies.
He has no idea I learned how to swim. And this time, I will be the one watching him drown.
