Three, two, one" lights flickered around her. "Legs open, wider... Let's see those hips, give me
an angular view."
The commands kept pouring in as Markyla struggled to keep up. She had expected a whole lot
from this contract but not this. Here she was, in the midst of eleven men and two women who
ordered her about the extent her legs should stretch open. She was allocated to the summer line,
and those cute bikinis were a size a little smaller.
She forced herself to breathe and just focus but the stares were intense. They tore through her
skin, she felt completely naked.
"Neck strap not properly adjusted."
The heads in the room turned towards the voice and everyone got on their feet. Everyone, except
for Markyla who felt her knees wobble as her eyes locked with his. He was the blue eyed, the one
who had spoken with them the day before, the one called Logan.
They said their greetings and he waved them with his hands "Go on with work" he said but didn't
move.
Markyla knew it was the pillar she clung onto for the shoot that kept her from passing out.
Frederick approached her, motioning for her to step away from the pillar and stand straight. He
was the one who handled her dressing, he was touchy too. He didn't seem to have any feelings
attached to it; it was more like just a job to him but she still felt some way about it.
His hands went to her neck where the bra straps were tied into a bow and he untied it, careful
enough to not let them fall when they came loose. He made the adjustment and tied them
together, causing some skin to come underneath.
Before Markyla had the chance to save herself, Frederick’s huge hands were on her breasts
tucking them in place. Her embarrassment was out of this world and her eyes flew to Logan just
in time to see him swallow with so much strength. He stood there, watching intensely, his eyes
following Logan's hands on her breasts. She noticed his hardened expression before his eyes
traveled to her face.
She blinked too many times as she looked away, unconsciously scratching at a non-existent itch.
"Ready?" Frederick said as he backed away "Let's take it from the top."
She took one glance at the door before striking a pose but Logan was gone.
"Five times a day..." She listened to the nutritionist speak three hours after her encounter with
Logan. "Everything is in your manual, so make sure to read it every day, follow the daily plan and
you'll be good by launch day.
Her mind was a tunnel where so many unanswered questions ran. She resisted the urge to ask
"where is a manual for my sleeping schedule?". All she heard since she stepped into the company
was orders. It was getting late and they were still coming.
"That would be all for today." Josh said.
Markyla grabbed her handbag and headed out of the office towards the elevator. She needed a
good bath and sleep and a man, maybe.
It had been so long since she got home to welcoming hands, a massage, and good s*x but she
remembered what it felt like. She stood at the sidewalk while she waited for an Uber. It was cold
outside but it was also cold inside and she preferred the natural. She rubbed her shoulders while
she waited, wondering why it was taking so long.
Harvey had closed earlier and had gone home to make dinner. She knew that was just an excuse,
she just wanted to rest and Markyla understood that.
Soon, the store would close. The lights from the top floors were already going off and security
were beginning to make their rounds. She checked and realized her ride was near but not so close
for her to hold the urine that tugged at her bladder. She sighed. She peed a lot when it was cold,
her ex-boyfriend thought of it as disturbing.
She made her way back to the entrance and spoke to the lady who sat in the cubicle, her eyes
peering through her glasses at the magazine she held in her fragile hands. She was one of the few
elderly people Markyla had seen at Blaze.
"Hello, can I come in please, I need to use the bathroom."
The lady stared suspiciously at her. "I'm sorry, I can't help you."
Markyla wanted to press harder but she walked away instead. She hadn't gone far when she
heard the little voice again "walk to the end of the building and turn the corner, there's a rest
room somewhere there.
She was grateful "Thank you." She did a little run down the lane and turned the bend at the end
of the huge building. She saw the bathroom and went inside, grateful to be relieved. As she pulled
down her pants, she heard the muffled screams.
It was a girl who was either in pain, or in danger, but there was someone else, or maybe people,
trying to make sure she didn’t get the help she was crying for.
Markyla was rooted to the ground like a statue, she couldn't even let herself breathe. Then she
heard the c*****g of the gun, and the firing. It was muffled, almost too quiet to hear.
She heard the gurgling, the stressed breathing, and silence. She heard the movement of feet, she
couldn't tell how many, she wasn't interested. Her only interest was in getting out of there alive,
unharmed, and unnoticed.
A car drove and stopped right in front of the restroom stalls and she heard them struggled to
stuff the body inside. In a few minutes, they zoomed off, leaving behind a trail of smoke and utter
silence.
Her phone had been beeping for a few minutes but the moment she realized she wasn't alone in
the bathroom, she had silenced it, knowing her driver would call any minute.
She picked up the phone on the second ring. "Give me a minute." She whispered into the receiver.
She knew they were gone, but she couldn't move. They could be back, maybe to clean up their
mess, but she didn't want to be there when they returned. She opened the door slowly and
looked from her left to her right but she could see no one. She stepped out stealthily and moved
into the alley, quickening her moves with every step until she could see the road.
Markyla didn't know what made her turn, but she did turn, and she did look up. The many
windows were dark except one, and she saw a face, holding the curtains apart, staring at her.
