Chapter 1
It was 6a.m in morning, woken by the shrieking alarm at the lobby, Dad had already prepared breakfast for us which we would be taking to school. Dad was more than a chef,he doesn't even rest during the night because he's so busy. Before my siblings and I get up in the morning, he has already done our morning chores while mom assists him. My family was worth to be called “Family indeed”. We had everything we've always desired,we attended the best school in Lagos, we ate healthy food ,we loved each other ,we were so wealthy ,nothing, absolutely nothing was a challenge for us. The neighbour wished they could reincarnate into our family. My Dad, Mr Kayode Kendrick, was a well known business man who worked as director of Kunumi Oil and Gas limited. He had three businesses, One during the day,the second during the night ,while the last one was to make my mom happy. Mrs Kayode Rita, who was my mom ,has a luxurious shopping mall . During this era of my life was called life worth living. By this time of my life I was twelve(12) years old, I had no worries,of course a 12 year old kid had nothing to worry about, apart from school work and examinations. The examination was one thing that wanted to tear my life apart. My two siblings and I attended Blue Wales International school, Lagos. My Dad paid over 2.5million Naira for our terminal fees. Well,I was a Grade 8 student. So literally, we were living based on wealth, and we never knew that some days life's gonna take us to the deeper part of itself. “Femi, get yourself out of my class,”Miss Ajibade(My English teacher) said. I beat myself up,wondering what I did. She said to me:”Fem ,phones are strictly radioactive in my class.” Well ,I looked daggers at her,as well as scoffed at her. My family had everything but we didn't have morals and upbringing because we were so filled with pleasure from the world. I stood my ground and told her I am not leaving the class for any reason.”Fem,for the very last time take yourself outside.” She said, She was about to beat me up ,then my friends came and grabbed her arms. I could say, I was the leader of the g**g in our class. No tutor dares to lay their hands on me. Just as they held her hands, our school principal strolled passed. Immediately He came and held me,asking my Miss Ajibade what was my offence. “This boy displayed a very disrespectful manner in my class,”she said. Just there and then,Principal Martinz called my mom. A few hours later,my mom abandoned all his work for the day, all because of my annoyance. “Principal,What happened?”my mom asked. “Fem,your son,has been found breaking our school laws, disrespecting our teachers and has been a bad influence to other students,” the Principal said. “Imagine ,a kid just in grade 8,is already a disaster in school, then when he gets to grade 11 what would he become,”the principal asked. Instantly, mom started yelling at principal Martinz. “Why would you call me for such an important issue ,can't you see that Femi is still a kid, when he grows up he would mend his ways and outgrow all these,”mom said. “So you mean you're supporting your son for his unruly behaviour in school?”the principal asked. “Yes I am,”mom replied. “Why won't I support my son, with time he would outgrow all these. And I don't want to hear that your teachers laid their filthy hands on my son. Otherwise,it's gonna be WAR.” Mom said . The principal was speechless, while I was over the moon ,filled with excess joy because my mom always backed me up. This gave me so much motivation to continue my unruly behaviour in school. The principal had no choice but to accept the fact ,only because my family was the top in the school. We usually sponsor the school events yearly,so the Principal kept his lips sealed. The principal knows his school can be sealed if anything happens to me ,so no options, he kept calm. By grade eight, lying had become second nature to me, and the untruths rolled off my tongue effortlessly. Abusive language became second nature; the insults slipped out without a thought, as if it were a natural talent. I had already envisioned forming my own crew of troublemakers, and I quickly became a toxic influence on my peers. Just as the bell was jiggled, the day fades away, school had come to closure for the day. It was 4pm,mom drove to pick us from school. Immediately we arrived at our house, mom gave dad the full dub of everything that happened in school today. When my dad heard about all my toxic behaviour in school,he yelled out my mother with a loud voice. “How can you justify supporting the disruptive actions of your son at school?” Dad asked. “He is my son, I don't want those teachers to kill him for me,it's just a matter of time,he would outgrow this behaviour.” Mom replied. “This is so unfortunate, that you're taking his side, you won't like the outcome of all these, don't say I didn't warn you.” Dad said. I knew my Dad,he had the eye of a tiger. "If we spoil our children with too much comfort, they will lose their way. If they don't amount to anything tomorrow, we will both have to answer for it.” Dad softly spoke to my mom. My Siblings were mad at me,it seems like I just became the black sheep of the family, and I am damaging my dad's legal reputation out there. We had all the money we had,but we indeed lacked that one thing. Some of my friends in school wished they had the same parents as mine. “A Good name is to be chosen rather than great riches”
