Thanks to the forests that offered an abundance of wood, they built their settlement in just a few days. A large long house for sleeping and eating, another smaller one as a workshop and a circular pen for animals.
Ulfr gathered the men together at an early hour.
"We’ll go exploring today," he told them. He chose about ten of them to take with him, leaving the others to look after the settlement and livestock. They prepared the horses, put some food in their sacks and ventured out to discover the new land. At the top of the hill that overlooked their settlement, the landscape that opened up to their eyes left them stunned.
